The story collection Bad Thoughts by Nada Alic presents a fantastically bizarre collection of contemporary women whose outlandish intrusive thoughts come to reality. With the book due for release, Alic approached her friend and Sprinkle Lab co-founder Brandon Tauszik to utilise his skills as a director to craft a trio of book trailers titled Daddy’s Girl, A Free Woman and The Intruder. These three films, shot entirely on 16mm with a motley cast pulled together from comedians, musicians and actors are hilarious, toe-curlingly cringe-worthy and capture the essence of the women written by Alic. The LA-based Tauszik, whose background lies predominantly in documentary and branded project work, brings the author’s contemplative internal observations to life with relatable and entertaining characters. Joining us on Dn we spoke to Tauszik about drawing from Seinfeld for the films’ physical comedy, the challenges he found translating someone else’s material to the...

This year’s student-run Milwaukee Underground Film Festival runs four days on April 30-May 3 at the Union Theater on the campus of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and at the Microlights Cinema.
The fest kicks off on April 30 with two films by one of this year’s jurors, Marika Borgeson: The Starry Messenger, which used the sun as it’s only developing agent; and the work-in-progress Excerpt From Arcanam Terra Lacrimarum; plus films by other artists selected by Borgeson.
On the following afternoon, May 1, there will be a presentation by this year’s other two jurors, Kelly Gallagher and Ben Balcom, which will include their own films, plus others selected from the Uwm Archives.
The rest of the festival features an explosion of terrific experimental films, including work by Lori Felker, Turn on the Hill; Zachary Epcar, Under the Heat Lamp an Opening; Mike Olenick, Beautiful Things; Josh Weissbach, Model Fifty-One Fifty-Six; Clint Enns,...

Despite premiering to mixed reviews at the New York Film Festival earlier this fall (read our own take right here), Fox is still all in on the Ben Stiller-starring and helmed update of “The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty.” With the film hitting theaters next month, the details for film’s soundtrack have been released. Set to be released digitally a week before the film’s release date, the soundtrack will be a rather folksy affair with tracks from Of Monsters and Men, Grace Mitchell and new songs written for the film from Jose Gonzalez. And that's not all, Gonazlez's band Junip also have some cuts as does nice guy Jack Johnson, indie rockers Rogue Wave and the legendary David Bowie with a new mix of "Space Oddity" featuring Kristen Wiig. Yes, really. You can pre-order the soundtrack now and purchase the first single, Jose Gonzalez’s “Step Out” from iTunes.

Director: Bruce Koehler.
Writer: Jacqueline Druga.
Cast: Bail Natalie, Norm Wash and Bryan Koehler.
19 Doors is like one of those early Stephen King tales where it tries to go for developing the mood first and creating the frights second. The small community feel certainly does exist within this film. But when Grace Mitchell (Bail Natalie) decides to settle in at a hundred year old hotel to conduct some on-site research for a screenplay, she has to contend with the locals and the establishment's sordid past. The list includes a possible miner forty-niner, a dapper priest and two etheric young girls.
The frights are low caliber and the movie does not rise above the potential that it sets itself up for. When Mitchell starts to finally look around at the old Lyndora Hotel, a few revelations are made. She learns that it is still being used as a brothel, but was...
