Olivia Colman will not be returning for Season 3 of Netflix’s Heartstopper.
“I couldn’t do number three. I couldn’t fit it in. I feel awful about that,” the Oscar-winner told Forbes in an interview today. And it’s not because she doesn’t want to. Colman, who recurred in the series as Sarah Nelson, called the series “one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever been part of.”
Last May shortly after Season 1 debuted, Heartstopper got a rare — for Netflix — two-season pickup.
Netflix announced last week that the eight-episode Season 3 will premiere in October.
Creator Alice Oseman took to her Instagram Story today to address the series’ evolution in Season 3.
“Nick’s story from the comics is still there, still infinitely important to me, and Sarah’s role as emotional support for Nick will shift to other characters in the story for now. If we get a season four,...

“Season 2 ended with Nick beginning to understand the extent of Charlie’s mental health issues, and it’s this that will drive the story through Season 3,” series creator Alice Oseman Oseman told Netflix’s Tudum. “While Heartstopper will always celebrate the joyful and point towards hope, I’m really excited that we are allowing the tone of the show to mature alongside our beloved characters growing up. If you wish the third season of Heartstopper would come out now, you're not alone.
Heartstopper Season 2 Episode 8 left us with one of the sweetest cliffhangers we have ever seen, and if you weren't kicking your feet in the air as Charlie typed those words on his phone, were you watching the same show and, more importantly, are you okay?
We were almost guaranteed to get a third season of the show. Now, the most challenging part is the waiting period.
We have compiled all the information you need about the season as we await the release to tide you over.
Once it comes out, we will update this post with new information, so you might want to bookmark it.
Will There Be a Third Season of Heartstopper?
We could have answered this question in the affirmative one year ago because a show rarely gets renewed for multiple seasons after the freshman has premiered.

Each episode is like going to the ice cream parlor with friends on a hot summer’s day, or bundling up with your favorite book and hot chocolate on a winter’s night. The gift of Netflix’s beloved “Heartstopper” lies in how it showcases queer storytelling in a way that feels joyous, heartwarming and tender to watch.
That’s not to say there isn’t room in the television landscape for more mature representations of queer youth. But at the heart of “Heartstopper” is a utopian vision of queer high school life, a rarely represented freedom to simply be and love who you are meant to during those formative high school years.
Here, the emphasis isn’t on bullying or the trauma that queer teens face, like on “13 Reasons Why.” Rather, we get to follow characters leaning into their identity and trying to find joy and community. It is arguably radical storytelling in the canon of queer representation, and feels necessary in a world where any progress for queer people is met with repressive backlash.

At one point in the new season of Netflix’s Heartstopper, a pair of adult chaperones on a school field trip observe the various romantic entanglements of their students. The trouble with most shows about teenagers is that while they can be entertaining, the storylines are often farfetched and absurd. In media, depictions of teens are adultified so much that the resulting characters are far removed from real-life adolescents’ daily lives and experiences. With “Heartstopper,” based on the graphic novel and comic of the same name, creator Alice Oseman proves that she recalls the uniqueness and singularity of teenhood. The U.K.-set Netflix series is one of the purest, most vividly accurate TV depictions of what it means to be a teen.

If you heard a high-pitched scream in the wind just now, I was freaking out about Netflix‘s Heartstopper Season 2 trailer. The follow-up season to Netflix’s sensational adaptation of Alice Oseman’s coming-of-age story about teens discovering love is finally here! When Heartstopper debuted on Netflix, Heartstoppers assembled to sing its praises and encourage Netflix to renew the show for more episodes. Not only did Netflix respond by giving the green light for a second season, but we’re getting a third too! Handing out multiple season renewals for a show on Netflix is rare, but weeks of the show trending on social media have sent a clear signal to the streamer to keep pumping money and effort into this joyous series. Oseman returns as the writer and creator for the new season.
In Netflix’s Heartstopper Season 2 trailer, Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) navigate the trials and tribulations of young love.

In season two of Netflix’s LGBTQ young adult hit Heartstopper, the Truham Grammar School crew is set to face a new set of relationship challenges and a trip to Paris.
On Tuesday, Netflix released its first full look at the new season of the award-winning series, which sees a bunch of relationship and identity drama brewing for Nick, Charlie, Tara, Darcy, Tao and Elle. As stars Kit Connor and Joe Locke’s Nick and Charlie try to navigate their new relationship with one of them still not public about their sexuality, their friends Tara (Corinna Brown) and Darcy (Kizzy Edgell) face challenges around saying the L word (love) as Tao (William Gao) and Elle (Yasmin Finney) dance around how to be more than friends.
This all takes place as the group faces exams, a school trip to Paris and prom planning. As the trailer teases, timing can be an enemy or a friend.

The official trailer for “Heartstopper” Season 2 is out, and we’re already getting butterflies.
The second season of the YA romance series, which launches its eight-episode season Aug. 3 on Netflix, picks up as the whirlwind romance between Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) continues to blossom. They don’t have it all figured out yet, though, and Nick struggles with figuring out when he wants to come out.
“I want to tell people,” Nick tells Charlie in the trailer. “It’s hard to find the right time.”
“I want you to come out when and how you want to,” Charlie assures him.
And it’s not just Nick and Charlie falling for each other. Love is in the air through the whole “Heartstopper” world, with Tao (William Gao) realizing his romantic feelings for Elle (Yasmin Finney) — who secretly reciprocates them (though she hasn’t told him that yet). Tara...

When "Heartstopper" hit Netflix earlier this year, it was nothing short of a phenomenon. The adorable, emotional teen romance was the title on everyone's lips for weeks after its first season debuted, so it was no surprise when it was renewed for more episodes just a month after it aired. But fans will still have to wait a while longer for the next chapter of the story of high schoolers Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor), as season 2 only recently entered production.
Still, even in the off-season, "Heartstopper" is worth celebrating. The show was just nominated for nine Emmys at the newly launched Children and Family Emmys Awards, an offshoot of the prestigious award show that's designed specifically to honor media aimed at kids and teens. Connor and Locke are among the nominees, along with their co-stars Yasmin Finney, William Gao, and Olivia Colman.

“Heartstopper,” Netflix’s hit teenage romantic drama, has started production on Season 2 in the U.K., with four new cast members joining the series based on Alice Oseman’s best selling graphic novels about the budding love story between the bashful Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and the earnest Nick Nelson (Kit Connor).
Jack Barton (Netflix’s “The Letter for the King”) has been cast as Nick’s older brother, David — a university student who is less than enthusiastic about Nick and Charlie’s relationship.
British stage actor Nima Taleghani (“Cyrano de Bergerac”) will play Mr. Farouk, one of the teachers at Truham Grammar School, where Nick and Charlie attend with their friends Tao (William Gao) and Isaac (Tobie Donovan).
After a nationwide casting call, newcomer Leila Khan will play Sahar Zahid, a student from the Higgs Girls school, where Nick and Charlie’s friends Elle (Yasmin Finney), Tara (Corinna Brown) and Darcy (Kizzy Edgell) attend.

The "Heartstopper" cast were all about love - and shutting down protesters - at the Pride in London March on Saturday. Joe Locke, Sebastian Croft, Kit Connor, Tobie Donovan, Kizzy Edgell, Corinna Brown, and Jenny Walser were all on hand to celebrate the march's 50th anniversary. In the process, Locke and Croft ended up blocking protesters using their rainbow flags and a few bars from Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)."
The incredible moment was captured on video and shared on Twitter, where Connor made sure his castmates received their dues. "Uhhh I was videoing and screaming at them but please don't be mistaken, it wasn't 'Kit Connor and the rest of the cast', it was @joelocke03 and @SebastianCroft front and centre. Please give them the credit for doing something so powerful," he tweeted.
Locke tweeted back, "It was all of us," alongside a red-heart emoji.

The stars of Netflix’s “Heartstopper” were determined to keep the party going at the Pride in London March Saturday afternoon, joining in the celebration and giving the finger to anti-lgbtq+ protesters standing on the sidelines of the parade.
Series leads Kit Connor and Joe Locke were joined by their co-stars Kizzy Edgell, Corinna Brown, Tobie Donovan and Sebastian Croft at the march, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The group was determined to keep the proceedings festive, at one point moving in front of a group of protesters gathered against a police barrier to dance in front of them as Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” played on parade speakers.
Following a small altercation in which a parade participant appears to break free from a protester’s grasp, some of the cast members raised their middle fingers at the group.
