Galactus is coming.
British actor Ralph Ineson is the latest addition to the cast of Marvel’s “The Fantastic Four,” as the world-devouring cosmic villain Galactus.
The superhero quartet known as Marvel’s First Family will be played by Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (aka Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (aka the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (aka the Human Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (aka the Thing). The film will also feature Oscar nominee John Malkovich and Emmy winner Paul Walter Hauser, both in undisclosed roles, as well as Emmy winner Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal, a version of the Silver Surfer.

The First Omen releases in theaters on April 5th, 2024.
I don’t know to what extent The Omen (1976) is considered a classic, but the truth is that it was one of the most profitable films of its respective year, it has one of the most memorable scores of that decade – so much so that it even won an Oscar, something extremely rare considering the genre – and, of course, it spawned several sequels and even a remake over all these years. The First Omen is the sixth installment of the franchise and, as the title indicates, it’s a prequel to the original movie. It’s also the directorial debut of Arkasha Stevenson who also co-writes the screenplay along with Tim Smith and Keith Tomas (Firestarter).
Margaret Daino (Nell Tiger Free) is a young American woman sent to Rome to start a devout life for the church, but she encounters strange...

Sky has unleashed the full official trailer for the limited event series, ‘Mary & George,’ starring Academy Award and BAFTA-winning actor Julianne Moore alongside Nicholas Galitzine.
is inspired by the outrageous true story of Mary Villiers, who moulded her beautiful and charismatic son, George, to seduce King James VI of Scotland and I of England (Tony Curran) and become his all-powerful lover.
Through outrageous scheming, the pair rose from humble beginnings to become the richest, most titled and influential players the English court had ever seen, and the King’s most trusted advisors.
And with England’s place on the world stage under threat from a Spanish invasion and rioters taking to the streets to denounce the King, the stakes could not have been higher.

Rejoice exhibition, because some wide releases are keeping their dates on the theatrical film schedule next year, despite it being wrecked by the impact of the actors strike. Disney had April 5 on hold and that’s now being designated to 20th Century Studios’ psychological thriller The First Omen, the prequel to the classic 1976 horror film.
The original movie, a hit in its day, grossed more than $60 million at the domestic box office (unadjusted for inflation) and starred Gregory Peck, Lee Remick and Harvey Stephens, follows an American ambassador who believes his 5-year-old son is the Antichrist.
In this prequel directed by Arkasha Stevenson, a young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church. She encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate.

You could call the 40 executives on THR‘s inaugural International Women in Entertainment — Film list “the survivors.” As seismic disruptions rocked the indie world, from Covid shutdowns to the decimation of the special cinema market, these women have found a way to secure the money and the partners to keep making the stories they care about — often told by filmmakers from ignored or underrepresented groups — and get them out to the audiences that love them, worldwide. In a business that lionizes ego, these bosses — some who run pan-national mini-studios, others who oversee boutique operations with a handful of employees — have made an art out of collaboration, understanding that only by pooling their resources, by co-producing, co-financing or distributing one another’s movies, and by mentoring and encouraging young (often female) filmmakers, can the polyglot world of international indie cinema survive.

For much of this year’s awards conversation, The Banshees Of Inisherin and Everything Everywhere All At Once have dominated in the major categories – but at the 2023 BAFTAs_ that cleaned up. Edward Berger’s film bagged seven awards on the night including Best Film – building up momentum throughout the show as it won multiple technical categories and major gongs over the course of the ceremony.
“For a German-language film, we’ve been blessed with so many nominations, and winning this is just incredible,” said producer Malte Grunert on stage while picking up Best Film. The film’s big wins also came freighted with the relevancy of its World War I story. Upon winning Adapted Screenplay, writer-director Berger noted that in five days time it will be a year since war began in Ukraine, and stated that: “There are no heroes in any war.”

Since making his screen acting debut on “The Cosby Show” at age 21, Adam Sandler has built a reputation as a timelessly popular comedic performer with such resume highlights as “Happy Gilmore,” “50 First Dates,” and “Grown Ups,” not to mention his successful five-season stint on “Saturday Night Live.” He has also continually proven his dramatic chops over the past two decades as the star of “Punch-Drunk Love,” “Reign Over Me,” and “Uncut Gems,” the last of which brought him the most positive notices of his career just three years ago. Now, he is in the running for his first Screen Actors Guild Award based on his work in the sports drama film “Hustle.”
For the first time since 2015, all five of this year’s Best Film Actor SAG Award nominees are new to the category. Sandler and concurrent Best Ensemble contender Colin Farrell (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) are the only...

After a career that’s spanned over 30 years, Brendan Fraser has finally scored his first individual nomination at the Screen Actors Guild Awards for his portrayal of Charlie, an immensely obese online teacher in Darren Aronofsky’s film “The Whale.” While the Best Actor nomination may be his first individual one, it’s not his first time at the SAG Awards. 17 years ago, he won the Best Cast in a Motion Picture prize for being part of the ensemble of “Crash,” which would later claim the Oscar for Best Picture.
Like Fraser, all of his fellow nominees in the lead actor category are celebrating their first individual SAG nomination: Austin Butler (“Elvis”), Colin Farrell (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), Bill Nighy (“Living”) and Adam Sandler (“Hustle”). Farrell has a corresponding nomination for Best Cast for “Banshees” and both Butler and Nighy have received previous nominations in that category as well. Butler...

A quarter century and more than 50 film and TV appearances into his acting career, Colin Farrell has finally landed both his first individual and ensemble Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. This dual recognition comes for his lead performance in “The Banshees of Inisherin,” which marks his third film collaboration with writer-director Martin McDonagh, following 2008’s “In Bruges” and 2012’s “Seven Psychopaths.” If he succeeds on his solo bid, he will be the first Irish actor to ever win this or any individual SAG Award.
Like Farrell, all four of the other men in contention for this year’s Best Film Actor SAG Award had never been nominated in the category before. Adam Sandler (“Hustle”) is the only other total SAG newcomer in the bunch, as Austin Butler (“Elvis”), Brendan Fraser (“The Whale”), and Bill Nighy (“Living”) each previously received one Best Film Ensemble nomination. Bill Nighy gives the performance of his career in Living as a man facing impending death with the knowledge that he’s never truly lived. His work is so good that, on its own, it’s enough to justify remaking a classic. The fact that Oliver Hermanus’ resulting film isn’t too bad itself is its own sort of miracle.
Akira Kurosawa’s Ikiru (1952) has long topped many lists of the best films ever made. A moving and perceptive story about a government bureaucrat examining his life during his final days, it has much on its mind about not only the purpose of life, but also Japanese society in the 1950s. That specificity, along with Kurosawa’s masterful direction and Takashi Shimura’s compelling performance, makes it the definitive “rage against the dying of the light” movie. And while it’s inspired many other films about protagonists grappling with their mortality,...

Exclusive: Bill Nighy (Living) and Jeremy Swift (Ted Lasso) have signed on to join the voice cast of CG animated family comedy 10 Lives.
The pair will join already-announced cast members Mo Gilligan (That’s My Jam), Simone Ashley (Bridgerton), Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda), Dylan Llewellyn (Derry Girls), and musician Zayn Malik.
Nighy, who picked up an Oscar nom this week for his leading role in the Kazuo Ishiguro-scripted Living, will voice the character of Professor Craven, while Swift will lend his voice to a wise-cracking dog called Happy.
The pic tells the story of Beckett, a pampered and selfish cat who has taken the lives he’s been dealt for granted. After carelessly losing his ninth life, he begs to be given a second chance and an opportunity to show he can learn from his mistakes. Eventually, his wish is granted, but with certain stipulations.

The Screen Actors Guild has announced the nominations for its 29th annual awards.
Honouring both film and TV, the awards are voted on by the Hollywood actors’ guild SAG-AFTRA.
This year’s ceremony will be live-streamed on Netflix’s YouTube channel on Sunday 26 February, beginning at 8pm Est.
The move comes after the SAG Awards lost their longtime broadcast home on TNT and TBS. On Wednesday (11 January), they announced a new multiyear partnership with Netflix to stream the ceremony.
The SAG Awards have long been considered one of the most reliable Oscar predictors. Typically, if a film ensemble isn’t among the SAG Awards nominees, it’s unlikely to win Best Picture at the March Academy Awards.

The Golden Globes attempted to make a big comeback this year, following 2022's embarrassing lack of a televised ceremony in the wake of revelations about backing organisation the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's legacy of racially troubling decisions, corruption and other issues. Though Ricky Gervais was not around to stick a knife in, host Jerrod Carmichael aimed for truth-telling and satire from the start, though it was tough to avoid a feeling that this was an awards show with a cloud hanging over it.
Presenters awkwardly had to hand out different categories and, while the alcohol was clearly flowing, the whole affair had a typically undisciplined feel.
Film-wise, there were some expected wins.
On the TV front, Ryan Murphy was handed lifetime achievement award and gave perhaps the night's best speech, acknowledging and celebrating a wealth of those who appeared in his shows or helped make them. The White Lotus scored...

Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis drove to the Palm Springs Film Festival Gala together, and while Curtis presented Blanchett with the Desert Palm Achievement Award for her performance in “Tár,” the two delighted the audience with banter about who’s the better driver. But Blanchett brought the energy up to a fever pitch when she revealed that prior to their drive, Curtis had repacked her bag and came “out in her bra and knickers.”
“We had this lengthy conversation,” Blanchett recalled at the top of her speech. “A discussion about whether I should get into pajamas before driving back tonight. Meanwhile, she’s telling me this about what I should wear, and she comes out in her bra and knickers. This is why we nearly missed the tonight’s event.”
The two worked together on Eli Roth’s upcoming feature “Borderlands,” which Blanchett filmed prior to beginning Todd Field’s psychological drama.

Let’s imagine for a moment that you’re the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. I know that it’s possibly an anxiety-producing thought, but try anyway. If you’re part of the HFPA braintrust, or even a mere voting member, you had to be scared to death that your organization was in grave danger of imploding and the Golden Globe Awards ceremony that you put on annually at risk of disappearing entirely. Part of the problem was the fact racial diversity had not even the thinnest toehold at the organization, with zero Black voters in its ranks through early 2021, a number that somewhat astonishingly hadn’t changed in some two decades.
With revolt in the air and an industrywide boycott forcing NBC to cancel last year’s broadcast, the HFPA resolved to change its ways, vowed to be better, and indeed recruited 103 new racially and ethnically diverse voters this past September.
