John Legend made a poignant statement about the power of music at the Black Music Collective's first-ever Recording Academy Honors - sponsored by Binance, Ibm, Mastercard, Hilton, Grey Goose Vodka, and Amazon Music. On April 2, the 12-time Grammy-winning musician and Recording Academy trustee received the inaugural global impact award for his many career achievements ahead of this year's Grammy Awards.
In a room full of his industry peers and today's biggest music stars, Legend was celebrated alongside other honorees like DJ D-Nice, Mc Lyte, Rigo "Riggs" Morales, and Black-owned record label Love Renaissance (aka Lvrn). The event included remarkable performances from Summer Walker, Muni Long, Cordae, Jimmie Allen, and Chlöe, all honoring the night's awardees.

Summer Walker has dropped a remix of her sultry single “No Love” with an assist from Cardi B. The original single, which also features Sza, appears on Walker’s Still Over It, released in November.
On the remix, Cardi B — who provided narration on Still Over It‘s opening track, “Bitter,” offering advice about staying true to oneself — shows her vulnerable side as she takes the opening verse. “I just wanna be everything you need/I wish you could see how you hurting me,” she sings. “I got no more love,...

Lil Durk delivered a double dose of music from his new LP on The Tonight Show Tuesday evening — and Future was on deck to join the rapper in a performance of their latest collaborative effort.
The duo kicked off the segment with a heavily-censored rendition of “Petty Too” — which marks the eighth time Lil Durk and Future have joined forces — before Lil Durk took center stage to perform “Ahh Ha.” Both tracks come off Lil Durk’s 7220, which was released last week. The album, which marks the Chicago rapper’s...

What a difference two years make. On 2019’s Mirrorland, Earthgang conjured a stew of Black music idioms – trap, sampled soul, Southern blues, percussive polyrhythms – with audible joy. Breaking into Billboard’s top 40 albums chart, the album established Olu (a.k.a. Johnny Venus) and WowGr8 (a.k.a. Doctur Dot) as one of the more imaginative hip-hop acts to emerge in recent years, albeit one bedeviled by comparisons to Atl’s greatest duo, Outkast. Yes, Olu harmonizes with a yelp reminiscent of Andre 3000 at his most animated. But Earthgang is...

Lil Durk is packed in with his crew in the music video for his latest single “Ahhh Ha,” which he shared last week after a few days of teasing the song on Instagram.
The Jerry Production video fits at least a dozen of the Chicago rapper’s closest confidants into most frames. When they aren’t hyping up the track over stacks of cash, they’re chilling in the snowed out Englewood streets. Throughout the visual, the rapper rocks an iced out ring in tribute to a late friend.

The Grammys can be a little … unpredictable. “Music’s biggest night” oftentimes makes unexpected decisions and produces head-scratching moments, to say the least. But there are a few trends that you should keep in mind every year that could make your Grammy predicting easier and could help you finish on top of our predictions leaderboard.
SEE2022 Grammy predictions: Album of the Year Watch out for veterans
Recently there have been a lot of unexpected nominations in the general field for artists who have been around for awhile. Jay-Z in 2018, Brandi Carlile in 2019, Tanya Tucker in 2020, and most recently Coldplay and Beyoncé in 2021 have been examples of veterans getting bids nominations in top categories. But don’t go too old; we’ve seen a lot of older veterans like Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and Paul McCartney get completely snubbed for recent projects. Besides Tucker, it seems like this trend is more...

Musicians dip into the movie industry all the time; the opposite is more of a rarity, for whatever reason. But for filmmaker Lena Waithe, who grew up on Nineties R&b and counts Erykah Badu, Brandy, and Prince among her idols, the two businesses have always been an obvious pairing. The 2021 BET Awards will be held on June 27, coming back to the Microsoft Theater after last year’s virtual event. Honoring the best in hip-hop, R&b and pop music, let’s consider who might win in top categories when trophies are handed out.
Seebet Awards producer Connie Orlando: It was ‘terrifying’ to put on a show in a pandemic, but also an ‘opportunity’ [Exclusive Video Interview] Album of the Year
If you look at previous winners in this category, the highest-profile album always wins. Based on this, The Weeknd’s “After Hours” should be an easy winner here. “After Hours” notched three number-ones on the Billboard Hot 100, including the massive hit “Blinding Lights” and his most recent chart-topper “Save Your Tears.” The album also ended up in the top 10 of the year-end Billboard 200 chart, unlike the other nominees in this category.

When Summer Walker broke onto the music scene in 2018 with her debut mixtape, Last Days of Summer, she quickly became one of the most talked-about R&b girls in the game. Her style was refreshing and her lyrics were relatable. Within a year, her debut album was released and it shot to the top of the charts. Outside of music, however, Summer Walker has received a lot of backlash for many of her comments. Recently, people have been questioning her parenting skills after a photo of her and her daughter raised people’s concerns about the baby’s health. As usual, though,

With the Grammys getting rid of their secret nomination review committees altogether after backlash over alleged vote-rigging and a lack of transparency, a lot of questions have arisen as to what the award show will look like now. While controversial, the committees have shaped what the competition looks like. Now that they’re gone, what can we expect from the nominations from now on? Here are four trends to watch out for.
SEE2021 Latin Grammys: Will Bad Bunny and Kali Uchis lead the way at these awards later this year? Fewer Wtf picks
Perhaps the biggest change will come in the likely absence of those head-scratcher, how-did-they-get-in picks that had become a staple of the Grammys these past few years. While we can never count out surprises at these awards, expect fewer albums like Jacob Collier’s “Djesse Vol. 3” to make the cut over widely predicted, buzzy projects from big name stars.
