Grandave Intl. has acquired worldwide sales rights to action thriller feature “Joe Baby,” Tamara Nagahiro, Grandave Intl. head of sales, announced Tuesday.
The film stars Dichen Lachman, Willa Fitzgerald, Academy Award nominated actor Harvey Keitel, two-time Primetime Emmy Awards nominated and Golden Globe winner Ron Perlman, Kelly Hu, Jason London, and Kenneth Choi.
The title, currently in post-production, will be introduced to buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin, which starts on Thursday.
Directed by Steven Brand (“He’s Watching”), known for his acting role in “Scorpion King,” “Joe Baby” is an adapted screenplay written by Todd Samovitz (“Wonderland”) based on the novel “Joe Baby” by Drew Fine.
The film is produced by David Lipper and Robert A. Daly Jr. under their Latigo Films Banner, Jeff Rice, Stephen Endelmen, and Steven Brand, with executive producer Brian Niranjan Sheth (“Motherless Brooklyn”).

The film based on Drew Fine’s novel centers on Lachman’s character of the same name—a “collector” for a private investigator, searching for a way out of her unfulfilling and sometimes violent life. When Joe takes on a case to help the savvy daughter of a real estate mogul recover money she was conned out of, she is also approached by an unorthodox FBI Agent who is looking into the cold case murder of Joe’s hit-man father. When Joe discovers the two cases may be related, she is soon caught up in a dangerous cat-and-mouse game in which she must face her violent past in order to live another day.

USA Network is looking to extend its winning streak in original series with a development slate that includes projects from Stephen J. Cannell, Mike Newell and Tom Fontana, while fellow NBC Universal cable net Syfy is reteaming with director Bryan Singer for a six-hour limited series.
The announcements were made Wednesday during NBC Universal's portion of the summer TCA press tour.
The Syfy project has Singer, who first collaborated with the network on the 2005 miniseries "The Triangle," working on a new project in the vein of "The Da Vinci Code" and "National Treasure."
The series from Industry Entertainment is described as an action-adventure about the Mayan calendar predicting the end of the world. Singer is producing with Andrew Deane and Keith Addis.

After making his feature directorial debut with the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures skateboarding feature Grind, Gaylord Films production head Casey La Scala will take on another action sport for his follow-up film. La Scala will direct, produce and co-write an untitled youth-driven film set in the world of motocross racing to begin production this fall. Producing with La Scala are Gaylord topper Hunt Lowry and Grind co-producer Lance Sloane.
