In the 2011 film Drive, Ryan Gosling stars as a Hollywood stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver for criminals. The plot follows his character, known only as Driver, as he becomes entangled in a dangerous heist gone wrong, leading to a thrilling and tense chain of events. While Drive didn’t achieve huge box office success upon its initial release, it solidified Ryan Gosling as a leading man in Hollywood and elevated him to new heights of stardom. The film’s stylish direction, mesmerizing visuals, and Gosling’s captivating performance garnered critical acclaim and steadily grew a cult following over the

Malum is, according to its press release “a bold and expanded reimagining of the 2014 horror cult classic, Last Shift”. Now some may simply take that as a fancy way of saying it’s a remake of a film that’s less than ten years old. But there’s a difference between this and your average remake, it’s the work of the original director Anthony Diblasi and his co-writer Scott Poiley.
I considered revisiting Last Shift before watching Malum because while I remembered the basic plot and that I really liked the first hour then being let down by the final act, I didn’t recall a lot of the details. But, in part due to how knowing what to expect spoiled the impact of another recent reimagining,...

Directed by Ethan Coen, who co-wrote the script with his wife, Tricia Clarke, Drive-Away Dolls (previously known as Drive-Away Dykes) is a queer road movie-slash-crime caper anchored by a pair of delightful performances by co-leads Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan. The plot is admittedly slight and the jokes will almost certainly prove too puerile for some tastes, but it has attitude to spare and the fun characters carry it through.
Set in 1999, on the eve of Y2K, the film begins in Philadelphia, where Texan good-time-girl Jamie (Qualley) has just broken up with her hot-tempered cop lover Sukie (Beanie Feldstein). George Clooney and Adam Sandler will team up in a new Noah Baumbach movie for Netflix that’s still untitled, Variety has confirmed.
Baumbach co-wrote the script with actor Emily Mortimer, who also created the series “Doll and Em.” Baumbach is producing with Amy Pascal and David Heyman.
Under his exclusive deal with Netflix, Baumbach has already made “The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected),” in which Sandler also starred, as well as the best picture nominee “Marriage Story,” with Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson, and “White Noise,” adapted from the Don DeLillo novel and starring Drive and Greta Gerwig.
Clooney most recently directed “The Boys in the Boat,” which bows in theaters on Dec. 25, starring Joel Edgerton and Calum Turner. He’ll star with Brad Pitt and Amy Adams in Apple’s “Wolfs,” which is planned for a 2024 release with Jon Watts directing.

Universal Pictures wanted a car chase spectacle that would appeal to fans of their Fast & Furious franchise. What director Nicolas Winding Refn and star Ryan Gosling delivered was something far from that. They made a fairy tale-inspired arthouse thriller with ‘80s vibes, a deliberate pace, and bursts of graphic violence. The film was the 2011 release Drive (watch it Here) – and it’s time for it to be Revisited.
Drive started as a crime novel that was written by James Sallis and published in 2005. If you’re familiar with the film adaptation, you’ll recognize characters and story elements in the book. It follows a man known only as Driver. He’s a stunt performer by day. At night he...

Following Emma Stone's outstanding "Saturday Night Live" last weekend, the bar was set pretty high for the penultimate episode of 2023. However, this weekend didn't bring your average "SNL" host to the stage in Studio 8H in 30 Rockefeller Plaza. This episode was hosted by none other than Adam Driver, who has become one of the best hosts in recent memory. Whenever Driver comes to "Saturday Night Live," his impressive acting chops make him a comedic powerhouse, as he leans into each and every character he plays in such an authentic way that you can't help but laugh. It's the same kind of talent you see from someone like Emma Stone or Ryan Gosling, so the anticipation was up there.
Thankfully, Adam Driver's latest hosting stint on "Saturday Night Live" was filled with plenty of holiday hilarity, almost to the point where it felt like a full-on Christmas episode. Drive didn't...

Like it or hate it, Animal is here to stay! The Sandeep Reddy Vanga action-drama is certainly the most talked-about Indian film at the moment, thanks to its controversial subject matter. The audience reactions to the film have been polarizing, ranging from “harbinger of toxic misogyny” to “insanely glorious action-spectacle.” If Animal hasn’t worked for you, then the best course of action would be to stay away and move on, but if the film has turned out to be your jam and you’re done with all the discoursing and arguing on the internet, then you are probably looking for similar films to vibe with. No two films are quite the same, but I have made an attempt here to make a list of movies that might remind you of Vanga’s Animal, or at least some aspect of it. And no, this list doesn’t have Godfather and Kabir Singh,...

Exclusive: There is a little-discussed Hollywood rumor, explains Nicolas Winding Refn and his long-time collaborator Matthew Read, that Scooby Doo only came to be because Warners failed to land the rights to adapt The Famous Five.
And when you look at the two properties and their uncanny similarities, this argument does begin to hold some weight. Both have daring female characters from a bygone era, ridiculous story-of-the-week capers that always end neatly, and, of course, those lovable pooches — in the former case Scooby and in the latter, Timmy.
If the rumor is true, Winding Refn is thankful for how things played out, as he credits both generation-traversing works with influencing his career and driving his love for the screen. Now, more than 50 years on from when Warner Bros. allegedly failed to land the rights, the Denmark-born director has become the latest to take on best-selling English children’s writer Enid Blyton’s iconic novel series,...

Almost two years ago, rapper Travis Scott and the entertainment company A24 revealed they were working together on a mysterious project – and they made this revelation by sharing a picture of a script that had blood and coffee stains on it, with the title obscured. Now we know that Scott has actually worked with A24 on two separate feature films that we’re going to be seeing very soon. One of those projects is called Circus Maximus, which Scott directed alongside the likes of Harmony Korine (Kids), Gaspar Noé (Irreversible), Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive), Valdimar Jóhannsson (Lamb), and music video director Kahlil Joseph. You can watch the trailer for it in the embed above.
Circus Maximus is a companion piece to Scott’s new album Utopia, which will be released this Friday, July 28th. The 75 minute film will reach theatres on July 27th.

Nicolas Winding Refn is expanding into the animated world.
While Charlie Kaufman and Guillermo Del Toro have announced new emphases on animation, Refn exclusively told IndieWire that he is current working on an animated TV series.
“I’m doing an animation show which I’m very, very, actually really excited about,” the “Only God Forgives” auteur said. “I’ve been concentrating on for a year. I was so tired, I forgot about that. That is my new project.”
Refn is also creating an adaptation of famed British sleuth series “The Famous Five.”
“In Europe, it’s like institution. It’s like British royalty when it comes to pop culture of literature,” Refn said. “They are these old children’s books from the ’30s from England and everyone read them who as growing up all over Europe. Everyone has had their parents read them ‘The Famous Five.’ My kids know them backwards and forwards.

Bet you weren’t expecting the eyebrow-raising TV news of the day to involve a new adaptation of beloved children’s author Enid Blyton’s Famous Five series. But the surprising twist in the BBC’s announcement today didn’t concern the bestselling series of whimsical, jolly-hockey-sticks children’s adventure novels from the 1940s-1960s – rather the creator behind this new series: Nicolas Winding Refn.
Considering this Danish director is famous for stylish but graphically violent films like The Neon Demon, Only God Forgives and Drive, The Famous Five will be somewhat of a left turn for him.
The series will have three 90-minute episodes drawing on Blyton’s 21 Famous Five novels, which detailed the adventures of five daring young explorers – Julian, Dick, Anne, George and their dog Timmy – as they spend their school holidays gallivanting around the English countryside and coastline, solving mysteries, finding treasure and catching criminals. The summer of Barbie just got its soundtrack. When the highly anticipated "Barbie" movie hits theaters on July 21, fans will also be able to blast "Barbie: The Album." On May 25, Atlantic Records announced news of the album, which will be released the same day as the film, also sharing some of the all-star artists who are featured, including Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, Haim, Lizzo, K-pop group Fifty Fifty, and - perhaps most interestingly - Ryan Gosling, who plays Ken in the movie. These artists join pop star Dua Lipa (who plays a mermaid Barbie in the movie). Her "Barbie" song, "Dance the Night," dropped on May 26 with a vibrant, disco-themed music video.
Fans can preorder the "Barbie" album on its website right now, along with multiple special-edition vinyls and cassette tapes. Most of the album covers feature Margot Robbie as Barbie, lounging in her iconic bathing suit and sunglasses. The...

Mark Dacascos has been around on our screens since 1989, playing mostly in films that required fighting skills which he has in spades. With over 80 parts in film, television, and even video games, the man has made his mark. His martial arts background is impressive, being the son of Al Dacascos, one of the founder of Wun Hop Kuen Do (Whkd) Kung Fu, he has been trained from a young age and it shows. Mark Dacascos is one of the most skilled fighters in the industry, something that shows through many of his roles. Here are our picks for the best Mark Dacascos movies.
Only the Strong (1993)
Early on in his career, but not exactly at the start, this film is one that helped put Dacascos on the map. Yes, he had done other work, but for most action film fans, this capoeira film really shows his talent as an actor and a martial artist.

that was made with the support of AT&T and the Tribeca Festival, Nardeep Khurmi’s “Land of Gold” effectively distills the post-apocalyptic horrors of “The Last of Us” into a road movie about two brown Americans trying to survive the long drive across today’s United States.
Instead of traveling West from Boston to Salt Lake City, our reluctant Punjabi hero and his precocious Latina stowaway make their way East from California to Maine; instead of zombified fungus monsters who hunger for human flesh, the film’s surrogate father-daughter duo are forced to navigate 3,000 equally dangerous miles of overeager Ice agents and suspicious white convenience store clerks.
If contrived plotting and clumsy dialogue leave Khurmi’s quasi-neorealist debut feeling almost as fanciful as HBO’s mushroom holocaust, the bond that it forges between a truck driver and his human cargo is held together by a rich tapestry of well-worn truths.
