Laurent joined the team of the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in 1995 after studying English Language Literature and Translation at Université Blaise Pascal (Clermont-Ferrand) and Goldsmiths College (University of London). He was main programmer for the International Competition (1998-2017) and curated several major retrospectives for Clermont-Ferrand: Fetish Films (2001), Brasil (2004), British Shorts (2006), Tropical Melody - South-East Asian cinema (2008), Hoy Cuba (2012), or Colombian Promises (2017). Laurent created Euro Connection co-production forum for short films in 2009, which resulted in the completion of over 80 films (including awards and selections at Sundance, SXSW, Clermont-Ferrand, Rotterdam, Locarno, Berlinale, etc.).
Laurent acquired training as a filmmaker through continuing education at La fémis (Film Directing, 2009) and Les Gobelins (Storyboard & Stop Motion Animation, 2017). Together with Chilean director Luis Briceño, he wrote and directed his debut stop motion short Amerigo and the New World, due for release end of 2019. He is developing a political story in live action about French corruption, and a hybrid animated sci-fi project in a nearly extinct language.
