The 2024 Oscars are something of a homecoming for Becky G. The event, being hosted at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, isn’t too far from where she was born and raised in Inglewood, California. The Mexican-American singer and songwriter celebrated her home and heritage with a heated performance of “The Fire Inside” from the film Flamin’ Hot. She delivered the track in front of blazing flames with help from a choir of Latino children.

Becky G took the Oscars stage to perform “The Fire Inside” from the Eva Longoria-directed film Flamin’ Hot.
Diane Warren wrote the song for the film about Richard Montañez, the Frito-Lay janitor who became an executive after inventing Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.
Ahead of the ceremony at the Dolby Theater, Longoria talked about the excitement her directorial debut getting some recognition at the Academy Awards.
“I have goosebumps. I can’t believe it. I can because Diane Warren wrote the song, so she’s a genius and Becky G is a genius,” Longoria told Laverne Cox on Live from E! red carpet coverage. “Their performance tonight… You will never be more proud to be a Latino and a Chicano, but Becky’s thought and love that she put into this performance tonight is going to blow everybody away. She has some special guest from Inglewood.”
She continued, “We don’t ever get this platform.

Becky G got emotional Tuesday, after learning Flamin’ Hot’s “The Fire Inside” received an original song Oscar nomination. The Mexican-American artist, dressed in a Taylor Swift The Eras Tour crewneck, fought back tears in a Instagram video, as she expressed her gratitude for working on the film alongside its talented crew.
“This film, this team, this song represents something close to my heart,” Becky said in the video. “It is my heart. This is literally one of my dreams coming true in front of the world, so I just...

Diane Warren may have 14 Oscar nominations behind her and one honorary little gold man already at home, but, as she says, that man “needs a buddy.” Having written songs for over 100 films in her career thus far, this year, she’s up for Best Original Song once again, with “The Fire Inside”, performed by multi-platinum, Latin Grammy-nominated singer Becky G, for the film Flamin’ Hot.
The film and the song’s music video are directed by multi-hyphenate Eva Longoria, who first broke out as an actress in the 2004 TV series Desperate Housewives. She was named Director to Watch at the Palm Springs International Film Festival last year.
The song speaks not only to the story of the film—the invention of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos—but also the drive within that pushes us to follow our dreams and go far beyond others’ expectations. All three women relate to that theme on...

Eva Longoria says the biggest challenge making her feature-length directional debut 'Flamin' Hot' was "getting backing".The 48-year-old actress had a job on her hands pitching the movie about Latino Richard Montañez, a factory janitor-turned-marketing executive who channelled his Mexican heritage into the launch of the Flamin’ Hot Cheeto. She told Hello! magazine: "The biggest challenge in making any film is getting backing for it. No one has ever made a movie like this about Latinos, so it was important to me. It's based on the story of Richard Montañez, a Mexican caretaker who became one of PepsiCo's top executives, thanks, he says, to inventing Flamin' Hot Cheetos, a billion-dollar brand."Richard had very little education but he knew that his culture was a superpower."Eva previously recalled how there were “no efforts” to include Latinos in films when she started her career. Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series spotlighting the year’s most talked-about scripts continues with Flamin’ Hot, the script from Lewis Colick and Gentefied creator Linda Yvette Chávez that became Eva Longoria’s feature directorial debut.
The rags-to-riches story of Richard Montañez, the Frito-Lay janitor (played by Jesse Garcia) who becomes the marketing godfather of the spicy-chip revolution, hit the spot right away with audiences. The pic from Searchlight Pictures won the Headliners section’s audience award after its world premiere at SXSW, after which it became the first film to debut simultaneously on Hulu and Disney+ when it premiered in June.
Longoria told Deadline earlier this year that after sparking to the original script by Colick (October Sky and Charlie St. Cloud) and coming aboard, her first suggestion was that the story’s point of view needed to be Montañez’s.
“This is his version of what happened,” she said.

Hollywood veteran Edward James Olmos once offered a piece of sage advice to Eva Longoria in the 1990s when she was an extra on the set of “Selena” in her hometown of Corpus Christie, Texas. “Move to LA,” he told the young actress.
More than 20 years later, Olmos presented Longoria’s feature directorial debut “Flamin’ Hot” with the award for Best Feature Film at the 38th annual Imagen Awards, which celebrate the wide ranging talents of Hollywood’s Latino community.
At Los Angeles’ historic Biltmore Hotel on Dec. 3, “Flamin’ Hot” swept the final three awards of the ceremony as Jesse García won best actor – feature film and Longoria won best director – feature film. During her acceptance speech, Longoria acknowledged how Olmos and others present in the audience, including George Lopez, helped to shape her career.

Intellectual property — the books, films, characters and properties that get butts into seats — has long been a cornerstone of Hollywood moviemaking. But many of this year’s films have drawn from less likely, though perhaps inevitable, sources of inspiration: products and brands. Movies ranging from “Barbie” and “Air” to “BlackBerry” and Michael Mann’s upcoming “Ferrari” all to one extent or another leverage the namesake of the object, or the business associated with it in the name of attracting audiences to theaters.
This parade of product-driven titles seems to mark an inflection point in a crowded entertainment landscape where consumer recognizability has become one of the most important (or seemingly only) factor when deciding which movies to make.
At their best, these movies hit it out of the park with critics and moviegoers, as in the case with “Barbie,” the biggest movie of the year, or gain critical heat, as with “Air,...

Diane Warren has written hit songs for the soundtracks to movies from Mannequin to Armageddon. She has three original songs in 2023 movies, but her song for Flamin’ Hot is especially personal. Warren said she wrote “The Fire Inside” because she related to the movie’s subject.
Flamin’ Hot is inspired by the story of Richard Montañez, who’s said to have invented Flamin’ Hot Cheetos while working as a janitor at Frito-Lay. Eva Longoria directed the film.
“It’s such the American dream,” Warren said Thursday at Deadline’s Sound and Screen event. “When I wrote the song, it was kind of like my anthem too. The fire inside is a double entendre.”
On the surface, Montañez was motivated by the spice of Latin food. But Warren said the real fire inside is the passion any artist has to persevere.

Eva Longoria made her feature film directorial debut this year with “Flamin’ Hot,” an inspirational biopic about the rags to riches journey of Frito-Lay executive Richard Montañez (played by Jesse Garcia). The SAG Award-winning “Desperate Housewives” actress admits, “I love TV,” but she had already been directing in that medium for 10 years. When she was sent the script for “Flamin’ Hot'” she told her agent, “This one’s mine.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
Longoria was told she “probably wouldn’t get the job” because it was a Searchlight production and more experienced directors were in talks to helm the film. “I worked really hard on a presentation,” she explains. “A huge deck. It was like a two-hour presentation of everything that I wanted the movie to be. So I did get the job.”

As the ongoing battles in state legislatures over classroom curricula indicate, history – or at least the curation of which stories to teach, and from which perspectives – is subjective. So too is Hollywood’s rich tradition of biopics, which imply to audiences whose lives are worthy of immortalizing on film. Whether in textbooks or onscreen, most of the protagonists of our shared cultural history have belonged to the same demographic: Elvis, Oppenheimer, Jobs, Zuckerberg, Hughes. Those individuals were undoubtedly impactful, but Hollywood has also devoted resources to spotlighting relatively lesser-known white men, such as Jordan Belfort, Frank Abagnale and Hugh Glass (and that’s just one movie star’s filmography).
Biopics about people of color exist, of course, particularly when it comes to undeniable icons like Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali. But one community – the second largest racial or ethnic group in the country – has been particularly underrepresented when it comes...

Director Eva Longoria, in Flaming Hot, tells the real life story of Richard Montañez whose drive and dedication saw him rise up the ranks at Frito-Lay as he helped establish Flamin’ Hot Cheetos – the snack that disrupted the food industry and became a global pop-culture phenomenon.
Montañez went from a janitor to become an executive at Frito-Lay and experienced a level of success that exceeded even his most ambitious dreams. He became a role model for Mexican Americans who finally had a hero of their own: a man from the same background, roots and poverty, who faced the same discrimination and racism,...

Eva said when asked by The Hollywood Reporter for her view on Latino representation and diversity in film: “I’m like, ‘Well, I made one film, and we have a long way to go. Imagine when we have two films. Imagine when we have three films!’ “It wasn’t as big of a conversation as it is now. The word ‘diversity’ gets thrown around so much today. Back then, there were really no efforts or programs or initiatives.” She added about her success...

Flamin’ Hot is the movie the Frito-Lay company doesn’t want you to see. Directed by Eva Longoria, the Hulu and Disney+ movie is an origin story of the Flamin Hot Cheetos, allegedly the brain child of former Frito-Lay executive Richard Montañez during his early days as a janitor at the company. I was prepared for it. I was like, 'Oh, I’m so nervous about making the right decision.' But I was confident in my vision. New mom and dad Gina Rodriguez and Joe LoCicero had a special night out on Friday when they attended the premiere of the Disney+ and Hulu original movie "Flamin' Hot." The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Charlie, in March. Since then, the "Not Dead Yet" star and her husband have been enjoying parenthood, but they made time for their first red carpet appearance since welcoming Charlie in honor of Eva Longoria's feature-film directorial debut.
Rodriguez and LoCicero appeared to be having a blast as they cuddled and kissed in snaps from the event. The new mom even managed to squeeze in two "Jane the Virgin" reunions, too. Not only did she pose with Longoria, who directed an episode of The CW hit, she also reunited with her TV dad, Jaime Camil.

Flamin’ Hot, based on a true story, is a movie directed by Eva Longoria and starring Jesse García and Annie González. It tells the story of a Mexican man who, through hard work, rose through the ranks of a company and created a new flavor: Spicy Cheetos. This is the story of Richard Montañez, who, from Mexico, made a name for himself in the United States through his effort and determination.
Flamin’ Hot The Movie
Eva Longoria directs this heartwarming story that is full of good feelings, emotion, and a desire to succeed. It’s a feel-good movie that goes beyond the story of a business ambition, and instead tells the story of a good man who achieves his goals against all odds.
The movie is well-directed, with a great pace and a soundtrack that’s heavily influenced by Mexican culture. The storytelling is smooth, with a style that complements the story perfectly.

Eva Longoria may just now be making her feature film directorial debut with Flamin’ Hot, but she’s been laying the groundwork for nearly 20 years — all the way back to her breakout role on Desperate Housewives.
After a decade of directing TV episodes for shows including Black-ish, Jane the Virgin and Gordita Chronicles, Longoria noted that for Flamin’ Hot “all of my TV experience paid off because we move at a very ambitious, fast pace and this movie was very ambitious in our scheduling. I really think wow, all of my 10 years in TV prepared me for this moment, which is a film set.”
“And I used Desperate Housewives as my film school, that’s where I really learned everything,” she continued at Friday’s Los Angeles premiere of the movie, which tells the story of Richard Montañez, a Frito Lay janitor who says he came up with the idea for Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.

It's been nearly 20 years since Gabrielle Solis ogled her teenage gardener, John Rowland, in the 2004 premiere of ABC's hit dramedy "Desperate Housewives." But on Friday night, it was like no time at all had passed when Eva Longoria and Jesse Metcalfe reunited on the red carpet for the premiere of her directorial debut, "Flamin' Hot." The former costars greeted each other like old friends and gamely posed for a series of nostalgic photos.
Longoria and Metcalfe smiled, laughed, and even held hands during their red carpet reunion. The sweet snaps are a reminder that even though the former costars often go long stretches without seeing one another, they always show up for each other when it matters the most. For instance, when Metcalfe appeared on "Dancing With the Stars" in 2020, Longoria was quick to support her pal.
"She's always been a very supportive and loving friend," Metcalfe told Hello! at the time.

Hulu's new comedy film "Flamin' Hot" bills itself as the story behind the invention of one of the most recognizable snacks in the world: Flamin' Hot Cheetos. At first glance, it has all the hallmarks of a "based on a true story" tale: a quirky idea that leads to an unlikely, made-for-the-movies rise from obscurity and a charismatic and determined hero at the center of it all. In reality, though, there's less truth to the movie than you might expect.
Who Is Richard Montañez?
"Flamin' Hot" is based on a memoir, "A Boy, a Burrito and a Cookie: From Janitor to Executive," by Richard Montañez. Montañez grew up in a working-class Mexican-American family in California, and he dropped out of school to work. He was eventually hired as a janitor at Frito-Lay, which is where his story supposedly really begins.

Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. (Kelly Fremon Craig)
Like Judy Blume’s treasured young adult classic, Kelly Fremon Craig’s Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret begins in 1970 with 11-year-old Margaret Simon (Abby Ryder Fortson) getting the worst news any New York City-raised child can get: her family is moving to New Jersey. It’s not only that Margaret will have to leave behind her wise-cracking grandmother Sylvia (Kathy Bates) or her friends or school, but that being 11 years old often means everything is the end of the world. The crushing despair that makes adolescence feel like a rueful eternity is Fremon Craig’s specialty. – Fran H. (full review)

Eva Longoria's directorial debut "Flamin Hot" doesn't begin like your typical film. As the opening credits role, it seems normal enough, with Searchlight Pictures's drum role, a rhythm moviegoers everywhere know. But as the horns come in, the classic tune is transformed from the traditional march to mariachi - gritas and all. It's a clear sign that what's about to happen has a different flavor, a decidedly Mexican perspective.
"My North Star was authenticity," Longoria tells Popsugar of creating the biopic of Richard Montañez and his wife Judy as he rises from a janitor at Frito Lay to an executive, thanks to his insight into the Latine community and our untapped market potential in the spicy snack arena.

Jesse Garcia is desperate to make 'Flamin' Hot' a success for the sake of Latinos in the film industry. The 40-year-old actor stars in the movie as Richard Montanez – a Frito-Lay janitor who claimed to have invented the successful Flamin' Hot Cheetos snack – and thinks it is imperative that Eva Longoria's picture performs to give Latino actors and directors the chance to do more films.Jesse told Variety: "Non-Latino projects, they have the luxury of failing. But if our work doesn't work – or if for some reason is not successful – it's a struggle to get the next project."That's why 'Flamin' Hot' was so super, super important to Eva, to me, to DeVon, to the rest of the creative team. If we make this movie as a success, (the studio execs) go, 'Ok, let's see more. Let's see more of Jesse. Let's see more of Annie.

The first time Jesse Garcia learned about Richard Montañez — the former Frito-Lay executive who’s said that he invented the wildly successful Flamin’ Hot Cheetos brand when he was working as a janitor for the company — the actor immediately thought, “That would be an awesome movie.” Years later, Eva Longoria cast Garcia to play Montañez for her feature directing debut, “Flamin’ Hot,” which premieres June 9 on Hulu and Disney+.
The film, produced by DeVon Franklin, covers Richard’s life from his difficult childhood to his marriage to his high school sweetheart Judy (Annie Gonzalez) to his rise at Frito-Lay. For Garcia, it was an all-too-rare opportunity to depict the real-life story of a Latino family in a mainstream feature film.
“Non-Latino projects, they have the luxury of failing,” Garcia says. “But if our work doesn’t work — or if for some reason is not successful — it’s a struggle to get the next project.

Review: Underdog stories come in all sorts of flavors, but they rarely aim to be as spicy as Flamin’ Hot. Based on the title and the story at the core of this biopic of Richard Montanez, Flamin’ Hot could have taken some more risks and challenged the expected formula of other rags-to-riches stories. This year alone, Ben Affleck’s Air told the origin of Michael Jordan’s historic contract with Nike in a way that turned what could have been referred to as “that movie about basketball shoes” into a potential Oscar contender. Hollywood’s hunger for name brands has officially reached the point where just about any proper noun can become a feature film. And while its breezy pacing and charismatic lead keep it from becoming a slog, there’s no escaping the fact that Eva Longoria’s Flamin’ Hot, which tells the story of how Richard Montañez (Jesse Garcia) went from working as a janitor in a Frito-Lay factory to a director’s position thanks to his invention of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, is simply a 99-minute commercial for the Frito-Lay corporation.
Early on, Lewis Colick and Linda Yvette Chávez’s screenplay emphasizes the hardships that Richard faced along the way. He grows up on a migrant labor camp in Ontario under the watchful eye of his abusive father, Vacho (Emilio Rivera). His school years are beset with racist bullying and his young adulthood quickly leads him into a life of crime.

Eva Longoria has spoken out on the inequality of women’s roles behind the camera in Hollywood, claiming things are getting worse, not better.
The actress turned activist and director told the UK’s Times newspaper that Hollywood is not the “progressive entity” people believe.
She said:
“We are getting less jobs as directors than two years ago. People look at Hollywood as a progressive entity and it’s not… I think we’re more aware, thanks to the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements, about what’s appropriate in work environments.
“That’s been a game-changer for our industry as far as how we’re treated on sets or in writers’ rooms and meetings. Has it led to hiring more women? I don’t think so.”

The former “Desperate Housewives” star and “Flamin’ Hot” director spoke to TheWrap before a screening of her upcoming film at the Los Angeles Latino Film Festival, delivering a list of areas of improvement she wanted to see.
“Do better.
