Daisy Jones & the Six is a new series airing on Amazon Prime Video. The 1970s soft rock mockumentary presents the titular band as if they were a real Fleetwood Mac-esque project. And yes, that means the series is stacked with all the nearly unbelievable romantic drama that comparison entails.
But not all of Daisy Jones is simply a retelling of the creation of an album like Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours. There’s an original story weaved around that inspiration, pulling from other famous musicians from the era. Actor Sebastian Chacon adds to the color of the series by taking his inspiration from a genre outside of rock entirely.

Amazon’s new miniseries Daisy Jones & the Six clearly draws from the turbulent excellence that defined the peak years of Fleetwood Mac. But the adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s 2019 novel also uses the careers of other important artists of the era for inspiration. The character of Simone Jackson (Nabiyah Be) was based on the stardom of three timeless singers from the 1970s. Her plotline takes the same shape in the TV version as it does in the book. But the screen highlights certain details to heighten the emotional stakes of Simone’s story.

When you bring a fictional rock band from the 1970s to life on screen, inspirations abound. Daisy Jones & The Six, a beloved novel from Taylor Jenkins Reid that has been adapted into an Amazon Prime Video limited series of the same name, is rife with nods to one of the greatest rock’n’roll eras of all time. And yet, it also seeks to carve out a space for its own identity, both in its appearance on screen and in the original music that comes from the project.

Suki Waterhouse, who plays keyboardist Karen Sirko in Daisy Jones, had plenty to work with when it came to finding sources of inspiration. Some were obvious choices, like Fleetwood Mac’s own keyboardist Christine McVie. Others are a bit more obscure, and helped Waterhouse craft a nuanced, complex identity for her on-screen persona.

"Daisy Jones & The Six" is mostly a tribute to the California music scene of the 1970s, loosely basing its plot and characters on the drug and drama-fueled story of bands like Fleetwood Mac. But in one episode, the show quietly honored another music icon - who just happens to be the grandfather of star Riley Keough.
Keough, who plays Daisy in the series, is the granddaughter of Elvis Presley, who changed the music world forever with his signature sound and style. In the second episode, Daisy steps onstage and performs a song that gets her the attention of record producer Teddy Price. Some eagle-eyed fans quickly noticed that the guitar strap Keough wears in the scene looks identical to the one Elvis wore in his 1968 comeback special.

“Sarah Cooper: Everything’s Fine” finally dropped on Netflix on Tuesday — and your favorite Trump lip-sync star did not disappoint with the celebrity cameos.
In the roughly 50-minute comedy special, directed by Natasha Lyonne with Maya Rudolph, Cooper primarily stars as herself, the host of a morning news show called “Everything’s Fine” where, you guessed it, everyone pretends everything is just fine despite the chaos that is 2020 and the Trump administration.
If you’re looking for more Trump lip-sync moments, Cooper delivers — and adds a couple more people to her repertoire. But she’s also joined by a lengthy guest star list that includes Fred Armisen, Megan Thee Stallion, Jane Lynch, Whoopi Goldberg, Jon Hamm, Aubrey Plaza, Connie Chung, Ben Stiller, Helen Mirren, Jonathan Van Ness, Winona Ryder, Marisa Tomei, Danielle Brooks, Tommy Davidson, Jordan Black, Marcella Arguello, Eddie Pepitone and Maya Rudolph.
Yup, that’s it.

Today we’ve got a new photo to share with you feature Hanks in the role shaking hands with Matthew Rhys, who plays Lloyd Vogel, a character inspired by real-life journalist Tom Junod. The film is inspired by the friendship of these two people.
In the story, “a cynical journalist begrudgingly accepts an assignment to write a profile piece on the beloved icon and finds his perspective on life transformed.” You can read the piece Junod wrote here.

Salma Hayek, Connie Britton and Chloe Sevigny in Beatriz At Dinner - Beatriz, an immigrant from a poor town in Mexico, has drawn on her innate kindness to build a career as a health practitioner. Doug Strutt is a cutthroat, self-satisfied billionaire. When these two opposites meet at a dinner party, their worlds collide and neither will ever be the same. Photo: Lacey Terrell Sundance Institute has announced that Sundance Film Festival: London will open on June 1 at Picturehouse Central with the European premiere of Beatriz At Dinner.
The satire, directed by Miguel Arteta and written by Mike White, stars Salma Hayek as a new age sort who finds herself inadvertently sharing a meal with her rich employer, locking horns with her real estate developer husband Don Strutt (John Lithgow) along the way.

It looks like love may be in the air for "True Detective" co-stars Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch: According to a new report, the actors are dating.
Us Weekly says that the duo, who star together in season two of the HBO drama, have been spending lots of time together lately -- and that includes off-set, too. The magazine says that "multiple sources" confirm that the stars are dating, after being spotted out to dinner together last month.
"It hasn't been long," a source told Us Weekly of the pair's romance. "But it's serious." (Then again, a different source says, "I don't know if it's full-blown love yet, but they talk constantly." Get your stories straight, anonymous tabloid sources!)
According to the magazine, the actors -- who are both Canadian -- have been "friends for years," but "grew closer on set" while shooting the gritty drama. This isn't the...

Just when we were thinking that this summer needed a little more sizzle, HBO's steamy vampire soap "True Blood" returned with all the nudity, over-the-top sex scenes and drama we'd been missing. Spoilers ahead for those who haven't yet watched the season five premiere. For those who have, read on as we wrestle with a few new burning questions, along with some unanswered holdovers:
How will Eric and Bill Be Punished?
If there is anyone within the "True Blood" universe who takes corporal punishment seriously, it's the Vampire Authority. As such, there is no way that Eric and Bill will escape their uptight, unforgiving clutches without a few flesh wounds. The King and his Sheriff...

Our favorite fantastical creatures from Bon Temps return Sunday night (June 10) with the season-five premiere of HBO's "True Blood."
The previous season left off with Sookie professing love for both Eric and Bill while ultimately choosing herself over either lover. Alcide uncovered a giant hole in a cement parking lot, leading us to believe we haven't heard the last of Russell Edgington. And in the final sequence before the credits, Debbie meant to unload a round of lead into Sookie, but Tara jumped in the way and had half her head blown off.
Along with hopefully revealing whether Sookie's Bff survived the blast or not, the latest season brings vampire authority in the form of "Law...

Chicago – As the credits for the premiere of the fifth and final season of “Big Love” started, I wondered exactly what I wanted from this year. Like Chloe Sevigny and most fans of the show, I agreed that season four was a serious disappointment, especially after the spectacular third outing. Unlike the desire of most shows to go “over the top” in their last year, I realized that I wanted “Big Love” to come back down and focus on the central quartet of characters that make the show work. I am critically ecstatic to report that the season premiere of “Big Love” gave me everything I wanted and more.
Television Rating: 5.0/5.0
Season four of “Big Love” was cluttered, in large part due to an abridged season that forced the pace of the show off its rhythm. The result was closer to a soap opera than an HBO drama as every...

Pink has been hard at work on the set of "Raise Your Glass" music video and the first look at the upcoming clip is offered in a form of three on-set pictures taken by Lacey Terrell. Instead of having a toast with her glass, Pink raises her right arm and shows off some muscles.
One picture sees the 31-year-old singer represents a hard-working woman, dressing up as Rosie the Riveter with a red bandanna on her hair. Another features her with gothic make-up and the other one shows her chilling in a skateboarding arena.
The music video is directed by Dave Meyers and reportedly will be premiered on November 1. It will pay homage to the underdogs with one of the scenes capturing a gay wedding. "I threw my best friend's wedding in my backyard. She is gay and it was a beautiful ceremony. At the end of it, her mom said,...

Pink is hard at work on the set of her "Raise Your Glass" video shoot in Los Angeles. The video was shot by long-time collaborator Dave Meyers and is an ode to the underdog. "Raise Your Glass" is slated to premiere on Monday, Nov. 1.
"Raise Your Glass" is the lead single from the forthcoming "Greatest Hits... So Far!!!" album set for release on Nov. 16. In addition to her top hits, the ultimate fan collection contains two new songs (including the upbeat "Raise Your Glass"), both produced by Max Martin and co-written by Pink.
We love her "We Can Do It" picture homage. Are you excited about Pink's new video?

Chicago – Male prostitute Ray Drecker (Thomas Jane) and his pimp Tanya Skagle (Jane Adams) are back in the second season premiere of “Hung,” a show that improved drastically over its first year (check out our Blu-ray review here) and seems primed for continued growth in its sophomore outing. Shows like “Hung” often fine-tune their characters and themes between the first and second year and this unusual comedy is primed for breakout success.
TV Rating: 4.0/5.0
“Hung” always shared thematic ties with Showtime’s hit “Weeds” in that both series are about average suburbanites dealing with illegal activities more commonly reserved for the cities. The premiere of season feels even more like the adventures of Nancy Botwin when Tanya goes to the seedy side of Detroit to ask some real hookers for business advice and meets a pimp (the great Lennie James) reluctantly willing to help. “I’ve got problems…pimp-type problems.

Chicago – It took me some time to get on the “Big Love” wavelength. HBO’s controversial show hasn’t really been on my radar since its debut season, one that I thought featured a great cast but underdeveloped dramatic potential. A few seasons later, with the fourth season debuting on HBO and the third just released on DVD, “Big Love” has found its footing and become one of the most intriguing and captivating dramas on television.
Television Rating: 4.5/5.0
With each passing season, the characters and writing as a whole of “Big Love” has become more confident and emotionally resonant as the characters have escaped the sensational trappings of the concept to become three-dimensional people. For the better part of two years, “Big Love” was “the polygamy show”. While the lifestyle of the Henricksons is still a major part of the show, the relatable human emotion has transcended it.

Photograph by Lacey Terrell/HBO.Bill Henrickson, the serial polygamist played by Bill Paxton on HBO's critically-lauded series Big Love—season three was just released on DVD—may seem like a flawed and unsympathetic character. But despite his unorthodox lifestyle, he perfectly embodies everything that Sarah Palin once praised as "the real America": he lives in a small town, he believes in the value of a hard day's work, and with seven children and three wives, he's certainly an enthusiastic husband and father. He has deep religious convictions that he doesn't think should be regulated by Washington, and he sure as hell doesn't like big government, who he's convinced (rightly, it turns out) is trying to oppress him. He believes in god and family, and given his curious decision last season to start his own religion, with himself as spiritual leader and prophet, he may actually think he is a god.

Earlier this week we posted about the fact that Big Love's villainous closet case Alby Grant is getting a love interest named Dale Tomasson played by Benjamin Koldyke. And now we've got the first two pics of Koldyke as Tomasson, a closeted Mormon who is actually part of the hierarchy for the United Effort Brotherhood.
So the set-up is thus: Dale is a closet case member of a homophobic religion and is in charge of one the religion's even more homophobic offshoot branches and he's in love with another creepy closet case? Are you thinking what I'm thinking? They are so the new Kish!

Chicago – Meeting with Columbus Short is encountering a true force of nature. Focused, intent and with a varied perspective, this up-and-coming young actor and performer has the centerpiece role in the new film, “Armored.”
Columbus plays Ty Hackett, an Iraq War veteran who takes a job with an armored car company to care for his 14 year-old brother after their parents die. After going through initial training, an obsessive co-worker reveals a surefire way to stage a robbery and split the cash among all the participants.
Ty is initially reluctant to join in, but the financial pressures eventually allow him to relent. The pick-up of the cash goes smoothly, but an unexpected interruption throws the operation into a tailspin. What happens next becomes more than the money, and has implications that will change everyone involved.

Rating: 3.5/5.0 Chicago – Amy Adams gives a performance in Christine Jeffs’ “Sunshine Cleaning” that is not only the best actress turn of the year to date but nearly single-handedly makes the many flaws of this quirky comedy easy to overlook. It’s rare, but sometimes one talented star can make any project shine. Amy Adams is that talented.
In many ways, what Adams delivers in “Sunshine Cleaning” is more subtle and complex than the naivete routine that earned her an Oscar nomination for “Doubt”. Yes, Adams gives yet another performance that could be part of the year-end conversation when awards are being handed out, although the film is average enough that she’ll probably be forgotten.
Read Brian Tallerico’s full review of “Sunshine Cleaning” in our reviews section. The rest of “Sunshine Cleaning” needed a bit more polish, particularly the bizarre screenplay that jumps tones like a film festival patron bouncing from movie to movie.

Rating: 4.0/5.0 Chicago – Dennis Illiadis’ remake of “The Last House on the Left” is the exception the proves the rule that most horror movie remakes are a complete waste of time. With an incredible performance by Garret Dillahunt (“Deadwood,” “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford”) and great supporting work by Monica Potter, Sara Paxton, Tony Goldwyn, and others, “Last House” is the best mainstream horror movie in a long time.
Emphasis on the word horror, something you don’t see that often in movies of the genre that bears its name. In the ’80s, the slasher pic pushed the horror genre closer to the action genre asking audiences to cheer the murder of each nubile teen and running victim. Atmosphere and true, honest dread weren’t as important as a quality kill.

Chicago – How does Bill Henrickson (Bill Paxton) do it on HBO’s “Big Love”? He has three beautiful wives, a sea of children, parents at war with each other, politics with a polygamist prophet and big business to control. And that’s just the beginning.
Television Rating: 4.5/5.0 While several plots continue from season two and some are completely new in the third season, the plotlines that resurface make for especially compelling TV.
Guess who’s back? Ana (Branka Katic) – the love interest of Bill and Margene (Ginnifer Goodwin) from season two – is all of a sudden dating the Henricksons and now Barb (Jeanne Tripplehorn) is the one encouraging it. Barb’s feeling change when she realizes what a new wife will mean for growing her family and how to do things on her terms.
