When the news was first announced that the original Law & Order, aka the Mothership, was coming back, fans were super excited. But at the back of everyone's mind was one question: could they pull it off?
The world has changed significantly since Law & Order went off the air in 2010; could a series closer to shows like Dragnet than to its own spin-offs be successful now?
The good news is that Law & Order Season 21 Episode 1 wasted no time bringing up racism, negative attitudes toward cops, and other issues that are often in the news. While it didn't navigate these stories perfectly, it did a good enough job to be compelling television.
Interestingly, the writers chose to lead off with a story that could have fit comfortably on its sister series, Law & Order: Svu.
Not only did the second half of the hour revolve around the prosecutors' quest...

Philip Winchester will lay down some Chicago Justice to Manhattan later this year, when his character from that cancelled NBC procedural winds up on another: Law & Order: Svu.
Per our sister site Deadline, Winchester will recur on Svu as Peter Stone, the role he originated on Chicago P.D. and then played on its legal-themed spinoff. Stone’s appearance in the Svu-verse makes sense: He’s the son of Benjamin Stone, the Ada on the original Law & Order. Peter will be an Ada in the Big Apple like his dad.

The Woods #1
Writer: James Tynion IV
Artist: Michael Dialynas
Colorist: Josan Gonzalez
Letterer: Ed Dukeshire
Editor: Eric Harburn
Publisher: Boom! Studios
“Um…Mr. Beaumont, something very strange is happening…”
Set in Bay Point Preparatory High School in suburban Milwaukee, Woods pays homage to several genre faves, notably Sheltered, and Revival. Fans of James Tynion IV (Batman Eternal, Red Hood and The Outlaws) will be eager to read his first original comic series, but they might also be somewhat letdown. The best way to describe the first issue is to imagine a blend of Stephen King’s The Mist and The Faculty (written by Kevin Williamson and directed by Robert Rodriguez), only minus the dark comedy and social commentary.
Set mostly in and around one location in a small-town, 437 students, 52 teachers, and 24 additional staff vanish without a trace. Not much is revealed here, but Woods does offer swarms of mutant-like bats ripping apart the student body.

The rock and roll story is a lie.
Generally speaking, the message is complex and needless – whether mystical, or bedevilled or simply raucous – and it’s hard to invest in the heavily made up, or hugely styled acts who pretend that theirs isn’t a manipulated image. There’s still a lot of pleasure to be had, in the theatre and the adrenaline-soaked silliness, but it’s no more authentic than plastic pop these days.
But Biffy Clyro are a wild exception to the rule. The Scottish band can now class themselves as veterans, after seven albums and tens of musical identities through the years, and there is no hyperbole involved in saying they are the finest British live band of this decade.
Last night they played the first night of their Opposites tour, fresh from winning a number one slot in the album chart, and...

While we'd love to take some more time to bask in the glow of just-released box-office champ "The Hunger Games," it's time to move on to the sequel and start pondering and overanalyzing everything about "Catching Fire".
Here are our five burning questions (minor spoilers ahead for those who haven't yet read the book — hurry up and get to it, people!):
When Will Gary Ross Officially Sign On to Direct?
By all accounts, this question has already been answered behind closed doors in some fancy studio room somewhere but has not been announced to the general public. Attention Smallville fans who have been patiently waiting for the CW to come to their senses and simply hand over the titular role in their proposed [Green] Arrow reboot to heir apparent Justin Hartley: Don’t hold your breath! Or at least that was our main takeaway after getting a glimpse of a just released casting breakdown that mysteriously found its way into our inbox late last night.
What’s more, since we’ve always been a big proponent of the old adage “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em,” we thought rather than continue to bemoan what we can’t control, we’d have a little fun by choosing our dream cast for what sure looks to be shaping up to be a fantastic reboot. See for yourself, after the jump.

It looks like Chloe King may indeed have nine lives, or at least her show may have a second one. At today's ABC Family session of the Television Critics Association Press Tour, president Michael Riley said that a TV movie of cancelled The Nine Lives of Chloe King may be coming.
The Nine Lives of Chloe King was cancelled in September following a less-than-successful season of 10 episodes. Like many ongoing serials that end prematurely, Chloe King left viewers with lots of unanswered questions. In the final episode, Chloe (Skyler Samuels) lost another of her lives and was kissed by Brian (Grey Damon) -- who then died (?) from the contact. Alek (Benjamin Stone) walked in on his brother Zane (Daniel Sharman) as he stood over Jasmine (Alyssa Diaz) and Valentina (Alicia Coppola) as they are dying from poison.
Interestingly, Riley prefers not to talk...

Popular entertainment so often worships youth who haven't had the time to hone their art. Then there's "Follies" the valentine of a musical to women of a certain age, who know how to work a stage.
These are women who have lived, and as the characters and as actors you can feel they know how lucky they are to stand center stage at Broadway's Marquis Theatre and belt Stephen Sondheim's music.
The theater and the stage are shrouded with black material to bring us into an old theater, about to be razed for a parking lot. But before it goes, there's one last night, one final party for this grand old theater, which between the two world wars, hosted the follies. The women come from all over to see one another, and confront their ghosts. Younger actresses play the chorines from decades ago.
Though an ensemble, Bernadette Peters and Jan Maxwell headline.

In one fell swoop, ABC Family has ended the rest of Chloe King's lives, as the cable net has pulled the plug on The Nine Lives of Chloe King after 10 episodes, according to Entertainment Weekly. The show completed its first (and now, only) season on August 16th.
It's no surprise, as the show's low ratings and failure to capture a significant buzz were writing on the wall early on. Still, it's disappointing because the show grew with each episode and had opened up some rather intriguing plotlines for next season. The demise of Chloe King leaves gymnastics ensemble Make It or Break It as the only drama on the network still in limbo. (Raven-Symone's comedy State of Georgia is currently awaiting word on its fate, as well.)

As the season progresses that you, dear readers, have become more invested in the characters on The Nine Lives of Chloe King. Know who feels the same way? The actors who portray them.
I hate to upset you, but Benjamin Stone could not attend the convention. Thankfully, the rest of the cast made up for his absence, with Grey Damon even noting he's on Team Alek. He recognizes the fans are falling for Alek over Brian. What does he make of that? Find out below.
When asked to describe her character in one word, Amy Pietz (Meredith King) chose warm. I'd have to agree. Watch as she talks about how working on Chloe King has better prepared her for motherhood, how long Meredith will be in the dark about Chloe's true heritage and how great it would be to have some Meredith and Valentina scenes.

The Liars are ill at ease when they each have to confront complicated matters in “Surface Tension,” an all new episode of ABC Family’s hit original series, Pretty Little Liars, premiering Tuesday, July 26th (8:00 – 9:00 p.m. Et/Pt).
Its moving day for Emily, and with a new place to call home, she is feeling more like a guest than part of the family. Hanna is also feeling uneasy, but for her it is in regard to Caleb’s continued shady “business” dealings and his nonchalant attitude about it. And when Toby makes a surprising discovery, Spencer is thrown for a loop by the find and her father’s reaction to it.
With the girls already on edge, could they be sitting targets for “A’s” next move? Or does “A” have bigger plans for the four and is just making them wait?

Even though Chloe King has her own superpowers, she still needs a mentor. Benjamin Stone has filled in that role as he plays Alek, her protector and friend on The Nine Lives of Chloe King.
During a Q&A session with the actor, he revealed more aspects of his character and his relationship with Chloe. He also disclosed the upcoming dangers for this season, from family matters to romance.

Benjamin Stone is probably best known to audiences as Blank on 10 Things I Hate About You. A successful voiceover actor, Stone has lent his talents to several Harry Potter video games including Prisoner of Azkaban and Quidditch World Cup.
Born in Kingston, Surrey, England, Stone got his start in stage productions including The Dreaming and Pendragon. He also appeared on the BBC series Randall & Hopkirk.
Stone attended Epsom college, a well known British boarding school where he was involved in the performing arts; acting in plays, singing in concerts, and writing his own comedy sketches for the school’s variety shows. Once Stone left Epsom College he enrolled in the One Year Foundation Course in Acting at 'Arts Educational' in London. He then found himself privileged enough to gain a place on the 3-year BA (Honors) course in Musical Theatre at the prestigious 'Gsa Conservatoire'. His participation in this program...

The Liars are taken by surprise when Alison’s mother returns to Rosewood, in “Never Letting Go,” an all new episode of ABC Family’s hit original series, Pretty Little Liars, premiering Tuesday, July 19th (8:00 – 9:00 p.m. Et/Pt).
On the eve of the Rosewood Charity Fashion Show, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer are surprised with Jessica Dilaurentis’ (guest star Andrea Parker) return to town and her request that they participate in the show on Alison’s behalf. Aria takes up the opportunity to try and help jog Jason’s memory of the night Ali disappeared, as Hanna starts to get her hopes up that her father’s attendance may mean more than he’s letting on. Spencer, on the other hand, quickly learns that, while she has been dealing with larger issues, Mona has stepped in and taken charge of running the event. As the charity event gets closer,...

Things are about to get dark on The Nine Lives of Chloe King. Who will we meet? What will go down?
Star Benjamin Stone (Alex) wouldn't say, but he did tell me this week that "everything gets serious" over the next few episodes of this ABC Family drama.
"A lot of bad people appear. Or perhaps they are people Chloe already knows," he teased. "Either way, expect a lot of new danger."
What else is on tap this season?
Cooler fights, Stone says. He adds that he tries to do as many stunts as possible, and that all the fight scenes really are him. The introduction of a new male Mai. "I haven't killed them all," he joked. More complicated relationships, along with a focus on Chloe and her mom. The actor says we'll get "a better picture of the Mai/Chloe King world."
The Nine Lives of Chloe King airs a new episode tomorrow.

Vampires and werewolves — who needs them? ABC Family has the newest in superhuman heroes with a fighting feline femme fatale!
I will be the first to admit that as a male in my twenties I am not exactly what one would deem the target audience for an ABC Family program, so my lone bit of excitement prior to viewing The Nine Lives of Chloe King was the fact that I would get to see Caroline in the City star Amy Pietz. Ten minutes in however, I was hooked. It turns out I am in fact a fan of feline superheroes.
The best thing going for Nine Lives is star Skyler Samuels. Having to go from never been kissed high school student to ass kicking vigilante in the span of one hour, all while attempting to cope with newly discovered powers, seems like a heavy order for even the most mature actor.

When I first saw a preview clip of The Nine Lives of Chloe King, which premieres June 14 on ABC Family, I was intrigued. It features a kick-ass teenage girl with unusual powers and some ancient lineage. Sound familiar? I wasn’t overly concerned that it will be shown on ABC Family. They did Kyle Xy with enough of a sci-fi mystery to make the teen angst bearable. But in looking through the variety of clips that ABC Family has now released for this show, it’s becoming harder to tell what it will be closer to – Buffy the Vampire Slayer or The Secret Life of the American Teenager. I am of course hoping for the former.

It's a classic story. Girl meets boy. Girl likes boy. Boy likes girl. Girls meets new boy. More liking ensues. Love triangle activated.
However, in most of those stories, Boy No. 1 doesn't die when the girl kisses him.
ABC Family's new drama "The Nine Loves of Chloe King" will introduce viewers to this summer's hottest -- and deadliest -- new love triangle.
Skyler Samuels plays Chloe King, a 16-year-old girl who discovers she is part of an ancient race called the Mai and may be their only hope for survival against human assassins. Her two love interests couldn't be more different. Brian, played by Grey Damon, is a charming and unpretentious human who Chloe instantly develops a crush on. Benjamin Stone's Alek is also a descendant of the Mai and acts as her protector who may just become something more along the way.

Good news, "Pretty Little Liars" fans! Though Season 1 comes to an end on March 21, you won't have to wait long at all for Season 2. "Pretty Little Liars," along with "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" and "Melissa & Joey," will return in June 2011.
ABC family is also extending its programming to include three new dramas and a new half-hour comedy.
The first drama, "Switched at Birth," stars Vanessa Marano ("Gilmore Girls" April Nardini) as Bay Kennish and newbie Katie Leclerc as Daphne Vasquez. You guessed it - it's about two girls who are switched at birth. Bay is wealthy with two parents and a brother, while Daphne, who is deaf, grew up with a single mom.
D.W. Moffett from "Friday Night Lights" and Lea Thompson from "Back to the Future" star as the Kennish parents, while Toby, Bay's brother, is played by "High School Musical" fave Lucas Grabbeel. Constance Marie plays Daphne's mom.
