The Boys is one of the best superhero series with some of the most gory and violent action sequences. Based on a comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, the Prime Video series is created by Eric Kripke and it follows the story of a young man named Hughie whose girlfriend is killed by a reckless supe, because of that, he joins Billy Butcher with a team of vigilantes who are trying to get justice against the supes, who are backed by their very violent leader Homelander and an evil corporation Vought. The Boys is just getting better with each new and let’s hope that’s the case for the upcoming fourth season. So, if you love all the gore, violence, dark comedy, supes, and genuine emotions in The Boys here are some similar shows you could watch next.

When it comes to comics, superheroes are inexplicably linked to monsters. Horror comics existed before the superhero boom launched with Action Comics #1 (1938), and continued going strong after the caped crowd flopped following World War II. When Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and Stan Lee launched the Marvel Universe in the early 60s, they did so tentatively, keeping Spider-Man, Hulk, and the Fantastic Four close to the sci-fi and monster comics they made throughout the fifties.
As unlikely as the pairing may seem, superheroes and monsters make for a peanut butter and chocolate combination. Not only do monsters provide the overpowered villains required for superhero fights, as the current Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong demonstrates, but they also give characters like Spider-Man and Batman a chance to show off their heroism in the darkest of times.
So if you’re looking for some spooky superhero stories for your Halloween season, these 13 comics will do the trick.

Comic illustrators Glenn Fabry, David Finch, John Romita Jr. and Philip Tan are among the bold-faced guests that will be hosted at 2024 edition of Lake Como Comic Arts Festival, the unique convention that focuses on comic artists.
Artists Bill Sienkiewicz, Jordi Bernet, Frank Cho, Juanjo Guarnido, Tula Lotay, Bill Morrison, David Petersen and Charles Vess, most of whom have previously attended, are also in the lineup for the three-day event that kicks off May 17 with a reception overlooking the lake and gardens of the historic Villa Erba, the festival’s home, in Cernobbio, Italy.
Entering its third year, the event is less a convention than it is a fair with an intimate approach to artist-guest interactions, all in the picturesque setting made famous by Hollywood jet-setters such as George and Amal Clooney and John Legend and Chrissy Teigen. Those who have attended have described it as a con for art collectors.

A new, hot literary collab just dropped: Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and Lemony Snicket from “A Series of Unfortunate Events” fame are partnering up for an illustrated and annotated edition of Carlo Collodi’s classic novel “Pinocchio.” Variety has the first look of the little wooden boy, reimagined by Mignola.
Teaming back up with award-winning colorist Dave Stewart, Mignola returned to his gothic roots for a reimagining of the centuries-old story that will be published by Beehive Books. But despite the wooden boy’s recent, Oscar-winning popularity, Pinocchio has always influenced Mignola’s oeuvre.
“This is a book I’ve loved since I read it when I was a young teenager,” Mignola told Variety. “I really think between this and Dracula, this is what’s formed whatever the hell it is I do, my sensibilities.” When first approached by Beehive Books to contribute to their collection of reworked literary classics,...

This week I bring you a review for the latest of The Beast Agenda in Wolverine #29 plus a retro review from Wolverine comics past. The reason for the retro review is that I missed a Wolverine comic this month! My credentials are slipping! I only found out on the day it came out that the one-shot Murderworld: Wolverine even existed. I contacted my Lcs right away, unfortunately they didn’t have one to send out in the post but they’ve ordered me one for next month. So I booted up the random number generated and I was relatively happy with the issue it spat out.
Wolverine #29 Writer: Benjamin Percy | Artist: Juan Jose Ryp | Colouritst: Frank D’Armata | Letters: Cory Petit

Someone’s clearly flavour of the month right now. Moon Knight was always one of those second-tier characters with a small but loyal fan base. He’s proved a remarkably easy to use blank canvas of a character, going from Marvel’s Batman (still love those half-moon shurikens he throws) to the earthly servant of an Egyptian god. He’s been lucid, split personality, psychotic. A mercenary, a cab driver, a playboy. See what I mean? Writers love this guy, as he can fit whatever you want to do with him. This latest issue in the black, white and red series is a natural fit for him, allowing three separate creative teams their chance to give their own take on him, three good ones at that. Legend. Pioneer. Innovator. Influencer. These are all admirable words to describe Neal Adams, but I think there is one that is all-encompassing of the man and the talent and that word is; Giant. In one of the first Wizard magazines I read they were doing a retrospective on his Batman work. The piece opened by describing Adams as barrel-chested and saying how much they thought he could still bench press despite his advancing years. This always stuck with and then the more I learnt about him and saw him speaking online he became a gentle giant to me.
Neal Adams had a long career taking in a number of interesting stops as well as all the well known comic work. A New York native who grew up all around the globe, by being the son of a military family. He would return to The Big Apple to graduate from the...

"Moon Knight," Disney+'s latest Marvel series, left one big reveal for the very end of its sixth and final episode. A credits scene revealed what many fans had suspected during the show's run: that Moon Knight's dissociative identity disorder gave him another personality that Marc Spector and Steven Grant didn't know about.
During the credits, the show cuts to a scene of Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke) in a mental hospital, much like the one that Marc (Oscar Isaac) finds himself in during episodes four and five. A mysterious man speaking Spanish appears and wheels Harrow away. He whistles a song as they exit the hospital, and Harrow notices dead bodies around them.
The man takes Harrow outside Sienkiewicz Psychiatric Hospital (named for "Moon Knight" comics artist Bill Sienkiewicz) and puts him in a white limousine. Also in the back of the limo? The Egyptian god Khonshu (F. Murray Abraham...

This article contains Moon Knight finale spoilers
With its sixth episode in the can, Moon Knight finishes its first (and perhaps only) season. The ending is abrupt and a bit surreal, but it does bring closure to the threat of Ammit and Arthur Harrow. Usually, these Disney+ Marvel shows end with cliffhangers to build up the Marvel Cinematic Universe itself, but Moon Knight sticks to itself and builds towards what’s next.
From beyond the afterlife and beyond the constraints of the mind, Moon Knight has saved the day. Plus there was a completely rad Khonshu kaiju fight, which is something I never knew I always wanted. So where does this leave our cast?
Marc Spector and Steven Grant
Marc refuses paradise in order to reunite with Steven, the upbeat identity he created to protect himself from the terrors of the world. Thanks to Osiris’ judgment and the healing powers of Khonshu,...

It’s hard to explain Marvel’s Moon Knight on the best of days. The former mercenary-turned-vigilante can mostly be found after dark on the streets of New York City, protecting those who travel by night as the earthly avatar of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu. But the man behind the mask, Marc Spector, also has Dissociative Identity Disorder, which means that he can flip between alternate identities like that of ‘Steven Grant’ and ‘Jake Lockley’.
He’s a complex character who now has almost 50 years of comics under his belt. As a result, it can be a bit daunting if you’re looking for a way into his Marvel Comics history and aren’t sure where to start. Luckily, we’re here to help you as much as we can by isolating some of his best offerings to date!

As nearly everyone on the internet has noted, the English accent Oscar Isaac adopts in the upcoming Disney+ series Moon Knight has no basis in the real universe. But you may be surprised to learn that it has no basis in the Marvel Comics universe, either. The choice to play Steven Grant, one of Moon Knight’s alter-egos, as a nervous Brit with an unusual accent came entirely from Isaac himself.
“It wasn’t necessarily written that way at all,” Isaac admits in an interview with Radio Times. But when the actor took the idea to Marvel boss Kevin Feige, he got an enthusiastic green light.
For comic fans, Isaac’s performance changes more than Steven Grant’s voice. One of four personalities vying for control in the mind of former mercenary Marc Spector, Steven Grant is a suave American millionaire in the mold of Bruce Wayne. In fact, up through the early 90s,...

The latest teaser for Marvel’s Moon Knight has plenty of exciting action shots and hints of mystery. We get to see Oscar Isaac playing both desert-bound mercenary Marc Spector and timid English shopkeeper Steven Grant, but you may have noticed that the show seems a little scarier than your average MCU offering!
Not only does Ethan Hawke’s cult leader Arthur Harrow give off creepy vibes, but the teaser is filled with jump scares. There’s even a menacing, skeletal creature sure to be the Egyptian god Khonshu, who resurrects Spector and makes him his earthly agent.
Really, the tone shouldn’t be too much of a surprise because Moon Knight has his roots in horror. The character first appeared in Werewolf by Night #32 (1975) as a bounty hunter sent to capture the lycanthropic Jack T. Russell. Writer Doug Moench, who co-created Moon Knight with artist Don Perlin, has a...

Simonson like Neal adams was great in his day, but clearly cuz of old age, the hands are probably much more worn and weary. Not like frank Miller who was ALWays a terrible artist, who just became unbearable

This week I have a brilliant Q and A with Sumyra of Lucky Target Comics. I discovered Lucky Target Comics last summer after seeing a Tweet from the writer of Alex Automatic, Fraser Campbell. He had scored an excellent collection of Daredevil issues from the site, a number of which I myself had on my want list. The site is easy to navigate and find the issues you are looking for. They offer a good selection of newer and older back issues, as well as trade paperbacks and bundles of complete runs. More sellers should be doing this in my opinion. It is a great way to attract readers who are either completely new to comics or old fans looking for something new to read. I found everything I wanted at the time more than reasonably priced. I was able to check off some later 200 issues of Daredevil as well...

Ordinarily, attributing authorship of superhero comic book characters (i.e. which writers and artists created them) is relatively simple. For example, the character of Marc Spector — the white-clad quasi-mystic vigilante Moon Knight — made his debut in 1975's "Werewolf by Night" #32 by writer Doug Moench and artist Don Perlin. However, the characters of Steven Grant and Jake Lockley weren't introduced until 1980's "Moon Knight" (Vol. 1) #1 by writer Doug Moench (again) and artist Bill Sienkiewicz, even though both characters are also Moon Knight. While the character first donned his...

It’s almost impossible to remember a time when Batman wasn’t cool. When I was little, Batman was primarily known as the straight-laced crimefighter in endless reruns of the 1960s Batman TV series starring Adam West, Burt Ward and a seemingly endless, brightly colored array of “special guest villains.” Kids loved Batman, and not grasping the fact that the show itself was a subversive comedy, we often felt we outgrew him after a certain point. Batman certainly wasn’t the inescapable pop culture juggernaut and guaranteed box office draw that we know today. But then along came comics like Frank Miller, Klaus Janson, and Lynn Varley’s The Dark Knight Returns, which paved the way for the seismic impact of 1989’s Batman movie directed by Tim Burton and starring Jack Nicholson and Michael Keaton.

Moon Knight is one of those characters that you always feel should be bigger than he is. Cool visuals, unique character set up and modus operandi, some great creative people working on him down the years, and yet he just can’t get over that second banana hump he is stuck behind. He’s had brief moments to shine, although for me nothing beats the incredible Doug Moench/ Bill Sienkiewicz run of the early eighties, the entire run of which I still own. I think his problem is that if anything he’s too adaptable. Want to write him as a street crime fighter? No problem. An ultra violent, unbalanced anti-hero? Yep, that works. A conventional superhero in a hero group? Yep, can do that too. A character steeped in mythology and legacy? No problem. Moon Knight, ironically...

It has been a year, hasn’t it?
The year started with such tenuous promise, and is ending the same way: slivers of hope among rivers of misery. But even with all the chaos, all the changes forced by the pandemic and that were coming anyway, we still got some incredible comics in 2020.
Let us be abundantly clear: every work of art made in the last year is a small miracle. Every comic creator who put irons in the fire in a year that certainly didn’t lack fires deserves gratitude and commendation. Picking 20 comics doesn’t do justice to the herculean work and dedication that everyone who works in comics demonstrated – from the creators, to the back office folks who kept the trains running on time and let us know they were coming, to the people who actually put the books in our hands, we should be immensely grateful to all of them.

Joe Manganiello is a great-looking guy. “Overwhelmingly handsome” describes Adam Egypt Mortimer, who directed the actor in the dark superhero film “Archenemy,” available now on-demand. Mortimer says disrupting Manganiello’s appearance — as well as superhero film norms — is what makes “Archenemy” stand apart from other projects in the genre.
In “Archenemy,” Manganiello plays Max Fist, a disheveled homeless man who claims to be a hero from another dimension who fell through time and space to Earth, where he has no powers. Max teams up with a local teen named Hamster (Skylan Brooks) to wipe out the local drug syndicate.
“This is a character that you simultaneously believe that he is Superman; he has the strength, the incredible handsomeness, the heroic vibe. But he is also completely broken and degraded. Joe and I were really into deconstructing his look, f–king up his teeth, getting him scraggly and growing a beard that his wife [actress Sofia Vergara] really hated,...

The New Mutants will soon stream and spin at homes in the very-near future. While many speculated that this news would precede the recent move by studios Fox and Disney to release the film at theaters, it does signal the end of an era—especially for those of us who have spent the past 3+ years covering it—since the film will likely go down in history as having faced one of the hardest roads to a release, perhaps ever.
20th Century Fox will, at long last, release The New Mutants on Digital HD and Blu-ray on Tuesday, November 17. The Marvel Comics adaptation film, directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars), who co-wrote the script with Knate Lee, became one of the few post Q1 2020 movies that saw a big screen release, having hit theaters on August 28; a run that currently tallies at $42 million worldwide, obviously impeded by the...

I know every comic book publisher loves a ‘special’ issue, an ‘anniversary’ issue, or a ‘reached a big number’ issue, but at first glance a 144 page monster book for issue 1027 of Detective Comics seems a bit of a stretch. Longevity, sure, but we just had a whole raft of anniversary specials did we not? Then you realise. Detective Comics #27, back in 1939, was not only the very first appearance of Batman, but became the title that led to National Periodicals eventually becoming DC Comics. They liked the series so much they named a company after it. So, in comic book terms, Detective Comics #27 is probably the second most important published, beaten out only by Action Comics #1. As part of day two of DC’s big comic con pandemic substitute, DC Comics has made a metric ton of comics available for free online. Included in that passel of books are several from Milestone Comics – some classic issues of Icon, Hardware, and Static Shock, along with Milestone Returns #0, the kickoff to the big return of the Black-owned comic company slated for February. And there’s a pretty big surprise contained within.
The book is written by Reggie Hudlin and Greg Pak, with art from DC Publisher Jim Lee, Brothers Bond artist Ryan Benjamin; Teen Titans artist Khoi Pham; and Milestone co-founder Denys Cowan. Each artist gets a different introduction, and Benjamin and Hudlin rework Static’s origin to be a touch more timely.
In this new Milestone, Static gets his powers by being teargassed at a Black Lives Matter protest. On its face, this is a fairly big shift from his comics origin.
