Is the nature of Spongebob Squarepants videos harmful to children? The long-term-running cartoon has been on television for over 20 years now. Spongebob has over 250 episodes, three movies, and several spin-offs. Most kids have grown up with the lovable (but often annoying) Sponge and his wacky misadventures under the sea. However, it could be argued that the show was edgier during its first three seasons. That brings us to Mid-Life Crustacean, which was banned from rotation in 2018 due to a standards review that deemed some of the story elements not inappropriate for kids. The episode resurfaced recently on Paramount...

Bert Kreischer is living proof that truth is stranger than fiction.
In the mid-’90s, Kreischer went on a Florida State class trip to Russia, and to make a long story short, the Russian mafia forced the 22-year-old college kid to rob a passenger train that included his classmates. The Florida native somehow made it out of Russia unscathed, and after enough time had passed, he began telling the story on radio shows and podcasts until it became the focus of his viral stand-up comedy special, The Machine, in 2016. A few years later, Kreischer sold a movie version of The Machine to Legendary Entertainment’s Cale Boyter, who boiled the indirect pitch down to “The Godfather Part II meets The Hangover.”
The film’s premise revolves around Bert and his father, Albert (Mark Hamill), getting kidnapped by a Russian gangster (Iva Babić) as a form of payback for Bert stealing...

I listened to a lot of embarrassing music back in 1995: Toad the Wet Sprocket, Gin Blossoms, The Cranberries, Sponge, The Lemonheads, and basically half of what's on the Empire Records soundtrack. Empire Records is a fairly good representation of the popular, watered-down, R.E.M.-wannabe alt music of the era. Like the music, Empire Records was crap then, and it's crap now, but nostalgia has had a funny way of shining down on it. It's all very affectionately shameful. It's pure cheese, but it's aged well, like a nice gruyere -- sweet, but not overpowering. And great for fondue!
It's also a very unexpected cult classic among a certain age group. It only made $303,000 in its theatrical release, and reviews for the film were largely negative (it still possesses only a 24 percent over on RottenTomatoes). It's unexpected because there was nothing particularly original, ahead of its time, or inventive about Empire Records.
