The Continental: From the World of John Wick has wrapped up its three-episode run, but a number of questions were left unanswered, which has fans wondering whether season 2 might be in the works. I haven’t had a chance to watch the series for myself yet, so to be safe, I’ll just say watch out for Spoilers.

While speaking with GamesRadar, The Continental director and executive producer Albert Hughes said that while he “hasn’t heard anything” about a potential season 2, he has been “daydreaming” about the next stage of the story. “I would like to see if [Winston] becomes what he hated,” Hughes explained. “Absolute power corrupts absolutely. The “John Wick” movies are known for their high-octane, guns-blazing action on the big screen, but now the franchise is heading to Peacock — and about 50 years in the past — to explore its origins in “The Continental.”
Across three episodes, the ’70s-set series dives into how a young Winston Scott (played by Colin Woodell) became the proprietor of the titular hotel, which is famous for throwing lavish parties and being a safe haven for assassins. But, as “John Wick” fans know, not everybody abides by the no-killing rule on Continental grounds.
The show, which premieres on Peacock Friday, starts with a bang — actually, a lot of them — thanks to stunt coordinator Larnell Stovall. Winston’s brother Frankie (Ben Robson) brutally kills a squad of henchmen while escaping The Continental with a stolen package. His exit route is up a crowded stairwell that soon drips with blood from the flurry of headshots and stabbings.

In 1995, brothers Albert and Allen Hughes followed their electrifying directorial debut “Menace II Society” with “Dead Presidents,” an ambitious crime film set in 1970s New York filled with specific political references to illustrate the shameful treatment of Black veterans returning to the U.S. after the Vietnam War. Albert returns to that era as the director of the first and final episodes of Peacock’s “The Continental: From the World of John Wick,” a three-part prequel to the “John Wick” universe set in the titular hotel during the 1970s in New York City. The episodes exhibit Hughes’ usual strengths, from a balletic interaction between blocking, music, and camera movement to a bold, expressive color palette, but “The Continental” is a vastly different take on ’70s NYC than what Hughes learned on “Dead Presidents” — and that’s just the way Hughes likes it.

While promoting Peacock’s John Wick spinoff series The Continental: From the World of John Wick, executive producer Basil Iwanyk acknowledges the elephant in the room: How does one explore the John Wick universe without the eponymous star — played by Keanu Reeves — himself?
“It’s hard to look at: Ok, why does a movie or franchise work?” Iwanyk, who’s worked on the entire John Wick franchise, told The Hollywood Reporter at a recent press junket. “There’s a million different ways to look at it, and you just really don’t know. Of course, there’s research and bullshit, but it’s something in your gut. This is a prequel in the ’70s that doesn’t have Keanu and John Wick in it. Will it work?”
“It was about the franchise and the health of the franchise and what attracts people to the franchise, as [much as] it was [about] telling a great story,...

The new series, directed by Albert Hughes, focuses on a younger version of Winston Scott (Colin Woodell) and his brother Frankie (Ben Robson). Much like the feature films that inspired it, the exciting action and the fine collection of actors add yet another level to “The Continental: From the World of John Wick.” The cast includes Mishel Prada, Hubert Point-Du Jour, Nhung Kate, Jessica Allain, and many more. And in case you are wondering who is running the joint, that would be Mel Gibson as Cormac.

The Continental: From the world of John Wick’ held its panel at the San Diego Comic Con (Sdcc) and showcased some intense footage giving us an idea about both its tone and action.
While the show will apparently have a somewhat lighter tone, audiences should not make the mistake that this will get McU-fied as it still contains plenty of amazing action, full of blood and gore. Set in the world of 1970’s New York City, the show will dive deeper into the franchise’s obscure criminal mythology, exploring both the origins of the eponymous hotel for assassins in New York, as well as how actor Ian McShane’s character Winston Scott became the proprietor of its New York branch.
As reported by Collider, the panel opened with a behind-the-scenes featurette, with a long intro primarily focusing on the setting and the new environments. The footage also showcased familiar settings...

The details of the planned Titans season 1 finale have gradually been emerging in recent weeks, including how a fight with Trigon would have been handled and an appearance by the Doom Patrol. As it turned out, much of what was intended for the end of season 1 was repurposed for season 2, including a much earlier reveal of Dick Grayson becoming Nightwing.
In fact, this has now been teased in an image shared to Facebook by production member Larnell Stovall, which shows how the original plan for the finale was to introduce Nightwing in a post-credit sequence. The photo, available below, depicts Brenton Thwaites in what appears to be the costume he ended up wearing at the end of season 2. Given that we had a long wait to see Grayson become Nightwing in the new run, it’s somewhat surprising to see that this character introduction could have happened a lot sooner.

SandalwoodThough it will be Larnell Stovall’s first time in the Kannada film industry choreographing the stunts, he is a well known name in Indian cinema. Digital NativeDigital NativeHollywood stunt director Larnell Stovall has been roped in to choreograph the boxing sequences in the Kannada film Phailwan. The film has Kiccha Sudeep playing the lead role and he will be seen as a professional boxer in it. This required the filmmakers to create some realistic fight sequences following which the Hollywood stunt director has been brought on board. Sudeep also underwent special training in boxing and wrestling in Thailand to get into the skin of the character. Though it will be Larnell Stovall’s first time in the Kannada film industry choreographing the stunts, he is a well known name in Indian cinema having worked in films such as the Salman Khan starrer Sultan, SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali and Akshay Kumar’s Brothers.

This weekend John Stockwell’s Kickboxer Vengeance came out on VOD, digital and select cinemas this past Friday. While it is not a work of art it is at its core entertaining. The action scenes were thrown into a blender of course, thus I believe one cannot truly appreciate the hard work that fight choreographer Larnell Stovall put into each fight. However, the film does introduce us to rising talent, Lebanese-Canadian stunt actor Alain Moussi. Moussi has stunt doubled on many Hollywood productions. The last two X-Men films. White House Down, Suicide Squad, Warcraft to name a few. He will be expanding more into fight coordination with strike-while-the-iron-may-be-hot sequel Kickboxer Retaliation as well. For all Vengeance lacks in comprehension there are times where...

Back in the '80s, I use to love those action-packed martial arts films that created icons out of Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Sho Kosugi, and Jean-Claude Van Damme. One of the films that I remembered back in the days was Kickboxer, which starred a young Jean-Claude Van Damme, and was surprised that they would be making a remake of the film tilted Kickboxer: Vengeance, which would feature the return of Jcvd to the franchise.
Kickboxer: Vengeance stars martial artist and stuntman Alain Moussi, and he has some big shoes to fill as he is playing the role that once belonged to Jcvd. An update to the 1989 classic film Kickboxer, Kickboxer: Vengeance follows the story of Kurt Sloane (Alain Moussi), who travels to Thailand to avenge the death of his brother at the hands of Tong Po (Dave Bautista). Kurt trains with the legendary Master Durand (Jean-Claude Van Damme) until...

Just before Andrew Garfield booked the role of Spidey in big-screen Marvel Entertainment reboot “The Amazing Spider-Man” in 2010, rumors were flying about the shortlist of actors tapped for the role: Jamie Bell, Alden Ehrenreich, Frank Dillane, Ose Hayble, and Anton Yelchin were among them. But Josh Hutcherson of “Hunger Games” fame went so far as to record an elaborately choreographed sizzle reel, full of real flips and high-flying kicks, for producers to consider. The comic book–loving actor, only 17 at the time, has the youthful looks and flair for awkwardness required of Peter Parker; what many didn’t know was that he also had the action hero bona fides. Allegedly staged by stunt and fight choreographer Larnell Stovall, the extended fight sequence is so well produced, it’s easy to imagine Hutcherson’s spidey senses tingling. Read: “How to Get Cast in ‘Marvel Universe Live!’ ” Check out Hutcherson’s submission...

Get ready for Salman Khan as Sultan. The film, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar is getting ready to go to the floor and the star is in serious training for the role as a wrestler.

We are big fans of the work of actor Michael Jai White and fight choreographer Larnell Stovall. When the two of them work together? Hoo boy, the results are pretty cool. Their work in Ernie Barbarash's Falcon Rising is such an example. John Falcon Chapman is an ex-marine anti-hero plagued with a terrible secret consuming him with guilt. On the self-destructive edge, he learns his sister has been brutally beaten in the favelas of Brazil and travels there to hunt down her attackers. In the process he discovers an underworld of drugs, prostitution and police corruption ruled by the Japanese mafia.Spirit Entertainment is releasing Falcon Rising on UK DVD (R2) and VOD on May 18th. ...

Despite my lifelong affinity for the action genre, I'd never encountered the Universal Soldier franchise. Somewhere in the back of my head I knew of its reputation as a Terminator rip-off, but it wasn't until I read Vern's “Action Movies Don't Have to Suck” piece for the Village Voice that I was intrigued enough to seek out John Hyams'& Universal Soldier: Regeneration and Day of Reckoning. Hyams' elegant staging and disarming sincerity offer a refreshing alternative to the action adventure comic book slop dished out to teenagers and poked at by indifferent adult audiences that an entire generation of studio execs have chosen to ignore. Despite their relatively tiny budgets, Hyams' Universal Soldier movies, along with his other fictional feature, Dragon Eyes, are exquisite examples of digital cinema and personal storytelling. Rightfully, these movies should be dime store thrill rides, and in the best possible sense they are. They're also equal parts melodrama,...

John Hyams’s last two films—Universal Soldier: Regeneration (2009) and Dragon Eyes (2012)—were distinguished by their keen sense of action-setpiece construction and their potent use of motion and space. Regeneration, the weightier and more accomplished of the two, even achieved a sort of tragic grandeur; its images of empty-eyed soldiers fighting ceaselessly in irradiated urban ruins play like action-movie poetry.
Hyams’ new film, however, is an ambitious radical departure—a ballsy, heady genre mutant that confirms that Hyams is something more than just a smart and talented action traditionalist. Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning—slippery, chilly, queasy—grafts an art-horror movie on to the rootstock of a violent action flick. It bears only a passing resemblance to Regeneration, and has even less in common with the original Universal Soldier (1992); in fact, the two films it brings to mind are Lost Highway and Videodrome.

You have to give director John Hyams credit for not just giving audiences the same old thing with Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning. Those expecting a fun and action-packed thrill ride are going to be in for a major shock as this entry in the long-running franchise functions more as a horror movie than anything else. But despite the fact that the filmmakers are taking this series in a different direction, it doesn’t change the fact that the film is slow and dull in several spots, so much so that in the end, it doesn’t work as a whole.
Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren return as our favorite Universal Soldiers: Luc Deveraux and Andrew Scott, and they have since formed the Unisol Church of Eventualism, which has them taking in wayward soldiers like themselves whom the government has been secretly operating as remote-controlled sleeper agents. Following the surprise success of 2009's Universal Soldier: Regeneration, director John Hyams continues to steer the previously wavering franchise in new and invigorating directions, thanks in large part this time round to the involvement of Larnell Stovall and new leading man Scott Adkins. Adkins, who has clawed his way into the martial arts limelight thanks to eye-catching turns in, most notably, Isaac Florentine's Undisputed sequels, plays John. Before we learn anything about the man, we see him suffer through the trauma of witnessing his wife and daughter brutally assassinated in their home, before taking a bullet to the head. The assailant? None other than a freakish-looking Luc Deveraux (Jean Claude Van Damme). John comes to nine months later in the hospital, and while other...

Another day, another schedule for the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Next up is Day 3 - Saturday, July 14th - which is just about as chock-full of events for the horror crowd as Friday the 13th!
As always, our focus is the horror panels, but included are a few others that we think will be of interest as well. Remember that times and participants are subject to change so keep your eyes on the official Sdcc site for updates. Larnell Stovall isn’t a name many will immediately recognize, although you will his work. He has helped choreograph many of our recent action films fight sequences, like Black Dynamite, The Mechanic, Green Lantern, Mortal Kombat: Legacy, and Undisputed III: The Redemption. MovieHole got to talk with him about his work on Universal Soldier: A New Dimension, where he discusses the 3D, Van Dammage, and The Expendables 2.
“This was my first time working with Van Damme and he was very open to my choreography and overall it was a great experience working with him,” Stovall explains. “Van Damme of course, has his input and we were able to meet on common ground with moves he was comfortable with. While director John Hyams is currently filming Universal Soldier: A New Dimension, a follow-up to his surprisingly great Universal Soldier: Regeneration, with Jcvd, Dolph Lundgren, and Scott Adkins, one long-standing rumor which still hasn’t been denied or confirmed is that Michael Jai White will co-star in A New Dimension (here). Scott Adkins posted a new pic on his Twitter (via Twitch) that shows himself, Larnell Stovall who choreographed the fighting in Undisputed III and Never Back Down 2, and Micheal Jai White.
Does this mean White will get his revenge on Jcvd who killed his character in Universal Soldier: The Return back in 1999? Or was he just visiting the set?...

I'm a huge vocal fan of Scott Adkins and particularly his work in the Undisputed series of Mma prison fight movies. Undisputed II: Last Man Standing introduced him as villainous Russian Yuri Boyka, who went toe to toe with Michael Jai White's wrongly imprisoned convict. Personally I prefer the fight sequences in the follow-up, Undisputed III: Redemption, which were choreographed by the award-winning Larnell Stovall - currently working with Adkins and Jean Claude Van Damme on the fourth Universal Soldier film. Stovall posted this picture on his Twitter feed recently, which features Adkins, Stovall and the mighty Mjw all on set together, further fueling long-held rumours that White was involved. Could this mean a rematch for two of the best onscreen fighters in the business?...
