Ahead of the start of the 2023/2024 soccer season, the TNT Sports brand is replacing the BT Sport moniker in the U.K. and Ireland as of Tuesday under a rebrand unveiled earlier in the year by joint venture partners Warner Bros. Discovery and telecom giant BT. “Promising to become the ultimate home for sport fans, TNT Sports heralds the most significant change in the sports broadcast landscape in the last decade,” the partners vowed, highlighting a focus on live sports.
Warner Bros. TNT Sports is available across all major pay TV platforms, including BT TV, Sky and Virgin Media.

Following a secret joint bid from Warner Bros. Discovery (Wbd) and the European Broadcasting Union (Ebu), the broadcasting rights for the next Olympic Games cycle are set to be shared between the two media companies.
The new rights agreement covers the 2026-2032 period, which includes the 2026 winter games in Italy and the 2028 summer games in L.A. It does not include the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The transaction for Warner Bros Discovery and BT Sport’s joint UK and Ireland sports venture has closed successfully.
The conglomerates announced they would combine a few months ago when a deal for Dazn to acquire BT Sports fell through, and BT Sport and its subsidiary Eurosport UK’s assets have now been transferred into the combined 50/50 Jv.
As work begins to develop the new sports offering for the UK & Ireland, BT Sport and Eurosport UK will be separate for a period of time before a new sports brand is launched, combining David Zaslav’s Warner Bros. Discovery and BT.
The new powerhouse will bring together the might of two sports juggernauts, with the likes of the Olympic Games, the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, the Premier League, Premiership Rugby, MotoGP, UFC, Boxing and WWE on offer.
BT Consumer Division CEO Marc Allera will chair the as-yet-unnamed Jv.

Warner Bros. Discovery and BT Group on Friday welcomed the decision by U.K. regulators to approve their planned creation of a joint venture in the U.K. and Ireland.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) unveiled its decision to allow the deal Friday, saying: “The CMA has cleared the anticipated joint venture between Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. and BT Group.”
BT and Warner Bros. Discovery said this would allow them to complete the creation of the venture “in the coming weeks and for each of their assets to be transferred into the new company.” They said the venture would have “one of the most extensive portfolios of sports rights” in Britain and Ireland.
The CMA had looked at whether the venture “may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition within any market or markets in the United Kingdom for goods or services.

Warner Bros. Discovery has named its international leadership team under Gerhard Zeiler, who held the role of international president for WarnerMedia and adds Discovery’s global enterprise to his portfolio in the newly merged company.
Zeiler told staff in a memo reported by Variety that Warner Bros. Discovery is naming dedicated regional leads for international territories.
“This results in a different geographical split to the pre-merger state which will also allow each of the regional leaders to more rapidly assess opportunities for growth and efficiency and to integrate the two companies quickly,” Zeiler wrote, according to Variety.
Team is restructuring as follows:
Priya Dogra, based in London and former president of WarnerMedia Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia (excluding China), now focused only on Emea (excluding Poland).Anil Jhingan, president and managing director for Discovery Asia Pacific, to lead business development for the enlarged Warner Bros. Discovery group across international markets.
