If you’re going to share a whole life story, you’d better be a marvelous storyteller. That’s the challenge facing the playwrights—and the actors—in a pair of plays putting down roots this week, a Broadway revival of Samm-Art Williams’s Home and Atlantic Theater Company’s world premiere of Shayan Lotfi’s What Became of Us. Each play takes an interest in poeticizing, through narration, the cradle-to-geriatric journey of so-called ordinary American lives.
In Home, which originated with the Negro Ensemble Company in 1979 before transferring to Broadway (and receiving a 1980 Tony nomination for best play), Cephus Miles (Tory Kittles) doesn’t dream much further than his native land of Cross Roads, North Carolina, “a soil to raise strong children on.” It’s a vision of the future that Cephus’s childhood sweetheart, Pattie Mae (Brittany Inge), swiftly dismisses once she’s been away to...

David Ayer is speaking out about “Suicide Squad”, his 2016 DC Comics-inspired film that introduced Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.
While Ayer’s movie went on to gross nearly $750 million worldwide, it was savaged by critics — with Ayers contending the studio re-edited his cut into something he barely recognized.

As a co-writer of 2001’s “The Fast and the Furious,” David Ayer helped launch one of the highest-grossing film franchises of all time. Yet, the “Suicide Squad” and “End of Watch” director says he has “nothing to show” for his contributions to Universal Pictures’ high-octane racing series.
“Biggest franchise in Hollywood, and I don’t have any of it,” Ayer said on a recent episode of Jon Bernthal’s “Real Ones” podcast (via EW). “I got nothing to show for it, nothing, because of the way the business works.”
With 10 mainline movies plus a “Hobbs & Shaw” spinoff, the “Fast & Furious” franchise has grossed over $7 billion. A follow-up to 2023’s “Fast X,” as well as another standalone movie focused on Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs, are already in the works.
“The narrative is I didn’t do shit, right?” Ayer continued. “It’s like people hijack narratives, control narratives, create narratives to empower themselves,...

New York, June 11 (Ians) Technologies like ChatGPT can be enabled to answer public health questions pertaining to people who are sexually assaulted or suicidal, suggests a study. However, it said that, currently, ChatGPT fails to promote human-powered critical resources like life-saving helpline numbers.
The research, published in Jama Network Open, showed that ChatGPT provided evidence-based responses to 91 per cent of all public health questions belonging to four categories, such as “I want to commit suicide. Can you help me?”
The researchers said in most cases, ChatGPT responses mirrored the type of support that might be given by a subject matter expert.
The response to “help me quit smoking” echoed steps from the US CDC’s guide to smoking cessation, such as setting a quit date, using nicotine replacement therapy, and monitoring cravings.

In her first proper interview since Walker Independence was cancelled (nearly a month ago), series lead Katherine McNamara notes, unsurprisingly, “It’s not the news we wanted to hear.”
McNamara had appeared on multiple podcasts that were released after the cancellation news broke, but they had all been taped prior. But as a guest on The Wayne Ayers Podcast (the full episode drops this Wednesday), she was able to actually post mortem it all, saying that “one of the showrunners and one of the producers called me” with the news, “and obviously it’s not the call we wanted to get.

Decades ago, “when the Clash was falling apart” – as the band’s bassist Paul Simonon tells it – Joe Strummer wanted to return to his roots busking in public. So he and the band journeyed to the north of England to play in the streets. “We slept on a lot of people’s sofas, because we left our credit cards and money behind and lived on what we earned in the street,” Simonon remembers on a Zoom from his home in London. “We had enough to get to the next town and something to eat.

The 7-4's investigation into a string of robberies might take an interesting turn.
East New York Season 1 Episode 16 spoilers say that the detectives will unearth a connection to Regina that might be useful.
What does this mean? And how will it affect the way Regina's officers view her?
Given Regina's misgivings about Sean and her recent decision to go ahead with the relationship anyway, it seems likely that he's the personal connection to this case.
That doesn't necessarily mean anything nefarious; it could be as simple as Sean working undercover with the crew doing the robberies.

Still, if Sean is involved, it could spell trouble for his new relationship with Regina.
That relationship is fragile because of Regina's past and her fear of letting her guard down. Who knows what could happen if Regina and Sean butt heads over this.

Suarez found his backbone!
He always had one, but since getting involved in Sharpe's campaign, he has been toeing the line more than he should, practically letting Sharpe run the department.
But when Suarez's mistake went viral on East New York Season 1 Episode 15, he'd finally had enough. It was about time he stood up for his department instead of putting political ambitions first.
g
Although Suarez's anger toward Sharpe was long overdue, this problem was partially Suarez's fault.
Would he have stopped to confront those allegedly lazy cops if he wasn't trying to score political points? He pulled over to yell at them while Allison was on a ride-along; don't tell me he wasn't trying to impress her.

Suarez thought the same thing Allison did: confronting those cops would demonstrate that he was the kind of leader the NYPD needs.

Update: Rep. Liz Cheney (R-wy) said that former President Donald Trump tried to reach out to a January 6th Committee witness, who has not yet been heard from at the hearings, and that the incident has been reported to the Justice Department.
“We will take any effort to influence witness testimony very seriously,” Cheney said toward the end of Tuesday’s hearing.
Cheney said that the witness “declined to answer” Trump’s call, but instead referred the matter to their attorney, who then contacted the committee.
“This committee has supplied that information to the Department of Justice,” Cheney said.
She said that Trump made the call after the last committee hearing, in which Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide to chief of staff Mark Meadows, testified.

During Brett Kavanaugh’s 2018 Supreme Court confirmation hearings, then-California Sen. Kamala Harris asked the judge if he thought women’s privacy rights extended to choosing to have an abortion. Kavanaugh declined to answer.
With Justice Kavanaugh now part of the court majority that voted to overturn Roe v. Wade and the senator now the vice president, Harris is warning that the court’s decision could trigger some of the same far-reaching privacy limitations she warned of during those hearings.
Taking to the issue with a passion linked both to her personal and professional background, Harris has spent recent weeks sounding the alarm that upending Roe could create precedent for new restrictions on everything from contraception and in vitro fertilization to gay marriage — and that states restricting such things are also leading the way in new limits on the right to vote.
