Spending the past few years on True Blood has been doing great things for her career, but Anna Paquin hasn’t completely disappeared from movie theaters. This fall will see the release of Margaret (which, okay, was delayed several years because of legal issues), and Variety is reporting that both her and Ryan Phillippe will star in the comedy Straight A’s.
Produced by Nu Image and Millenium Films, James Cox will direct the movie that’s been written by Dave Cole, which follows “a man who’s been in and out of rehab for 10 years” who’s haunted by his dead mother’s ghost. She tells him to go back to his estranged family; with “nothing more than a bag of pills and a sack of weed,” the lead returns home to find “his brother’s wife, who’s still pining for him, her first love.” Phillippe is playing the main character,...

"Straight A's" has a perfectly timed title. I bet 50% of those who hear it will think it's a delightful sequel to "Easy A" that follows Olive Prendergast into her quirky college years. Alas, they'll be treated instead to a dramedy about rehab, ghosts, lost loves, and family duty. What joy! Ryan Phillippe is the star of "Straight A's" emotional joyride. He plays a man who has been in and out of rehab for a decade. As if keeping clean wasn't hard enough, the ghost of his mother begins haunting him, and urges him to return home to his family in Shreveport. Phillippe obeys (which is what you should do when faced with your mom's ghost) and gets reacquainted with his brother (played by the just-signed Luke Wilson) and his brother's wife (Anna Paquin, clearly reluctant to give up her Sookie Stackhouse accent) and their son (Riley Thomas Stewart). As if feelings weren't running high enough,...

Two Hollywood heavyweights are heading back to school, er, sort of.
Anna Paquin, "True Blood"'s darling, and Ryan Phillippe, last seen in "The Lincoln Lawyer," are teaming up to star in the upcoming feature "Straight A's."
Directed by James Cox ("Wonderland") and written by Dave Cole, the film is about former flames, reunited, in totally horrible less than stellar circumstances.
Phillippe plays a man who's been cruising the rehab circuit for roughly a decade who is haunted by the ghost of his dead mother pressing him to return home to the family he turned his back on years ago. Bearing nothing more than a bag of pills and a sack of weed, he trots back to Shreveport, only to have to face his brother's wife—and his first love—who's still pining for him after all these years.
That's when things get sticky.
No word yet on why these two get such high marks,...
