How does Geoffrey make a living? What's the deal with Rod, Jane and Freddy? Jenny dives deep into the mysteries of Rainbow...
You think Pixar films leave you with questions? Try being a fan of Rainbow. Over the years, my binge watching of the show has left me scratching my head on numerous occasions, and not just when I was 6 and had nits.

From Doctor Who and The FiveIsh Doctors to Campion and Button Moon: we chat to the fifth Doctor, Mr Peter Davison...
Ah, the mighty Peter Davison. The Fifth Doctor, All Creatures Great And Small, Campion, and living in a house with Freddy from Rainbow are just some of the topics we chatted to him about, ahead of the publication of his terrific autobiography, Is There Life Outside The Box.
We’ve got a fair bit to get through, so without further ado….
I got a sense you thoroughly enjoyed writing this book, once you were over some initial research-y hurdles. Would that be fair?
Yeah, that’s fair. It was kind of a journey, really. A reassembling. I’ve had these memories, and it was really a chance to put them down on paper and order them. Everything fragments as you get older, and things come out,...

Looking for something to offset all the downbeat news around at the moment? Then how about starting here...
Last week, in Geeks Vs Loneliness, we asked you for stories of human goodness, positivity and general niceness that have happened in the last week or two. You did not disappoint. Here are 19 random, small, wonderful little things that have happened in the last week or two. Keep adding your own in the comments too please…

The superb Line Of Duty changes your mind utterly about its characters from week to week. Exhausting, but brilliant...
This review contains spoilers.
Line Of Duty series three is proving as tricky to pin down as AC-12’s interviewees. Three episodes in and do we even know who the lead character is? Danny Waldron first looked set to take the role before that rug was pulled away from under us. Then it seemed as though Rod, Jane and Freddie (I think those are their names?) were our focus. Not so.
Episode three has left us with a much more tantalising prospect: this is ‘Dot’ Cottan’s story, the tale of the Caddy.
Craig Parkinson’s furrowed brow was the star of this week’s instalment. It got a close-up each time the investigation moved a step closer to the truth he’s trying to steer his team...

Exclusive: to celebrate the release of the ITV60 DVD box set, here's a previously unreleased clip from classic children's show Rainbow...
Forget Marco Polo and The Power Of The Daleks, the true geek treasure at the end of the search for missing classic TV episodes is here. And it features Bungle.
Specifically, the main Bungle, Stanley Bates, joined by Roy Skelton voicing Geoffrey's fellow wards, Zippy and George.
The clip below originated in a Boxing Day Rainbow special, and using our Bungle-senses, we've provisionally placed as coming from 1975 episode, Christmas Party.
The episode has since lain unreleased until Network dusted it off and included it among 59 episodes from other of ITV's classic fare on a DVD box set celebrating the broadcaster's 60th birthday.
You'll notice that Rod, Jane and Freddy are in fact, Rod, Jane and Matt in this one - 'Matt' being Matthew Corbett, who left...

Actor and writer who adapted his novels for the big and small screen
The actor and writer David Cook, who has died of pancreatic cancer aged 74, was the “forgotten” first presenter of the pre-school children’s programme Rainbow. He went on to write the television film Walter (1982), which was screened on Channel 4’s debut night as the first Film on Four.
Cook hosted only the first series of Rainbow, which was devised in 1972 as a British version of Sesame Street. It aimed to educate and entertain the under-fives with words, songs and ideas. Inside the Rainbow house, Cook was joined by the domineering, hyperactive puppet Zippy and the clumsy bear Bungle (originally John Leeson in a costume), as well as the glove puppets Sunshine and Moony. Music came from the folk group Telltale (only later did Rod, Jane and Freddy become the long-running singing trio) and Rainbow was a...

Mysteryland 2015 isn’t so mysterious anymore, as ID&T have released phase 1 of their eclectic lineup today, and it’s absolutely huge. Bringing in Alesso, Dillon Francis, Martin Garrix, Oliver Heldens, Steve Angello, Nicky Romero and more to headline, along with stages hosted by Size and Spinnin’ Records, it looks like the Netherlands is going to be the place to be during the end of August (the 29th and 30th, to be exact).
“We are so happy that we can offer our visitors a two-day program,” says Duncan Stutterheim, founder of ID&T. “Not only can they party longer, but most of all, they have more time to explore the wide variety of music, arts and culture on offer. Besides, we are proud that we can give a platform to so many talents, artists and creative.”
Take a peak at the full Mysteryland 2015 lineup below and let us know what you make of it.

Have you ever wondered what Jet, Wolf, and the rest of ITV's Gladiators did after the show finished? Wonder no more...
ITV’s Gladiators - the show that for eight years made children everywhere become interested in sports, eating well and keeping fit... for about five minutes on a Saturday night, then we all went back to our natural state of sitting on the settee eating sugar straight from the packet.
What was it that inspired this minor surge of enthusiasm for being buff? That would be the gladiators themselves. Every week, twelve superhuman powerhouses - six men and six women - would intimidate, bully, and otherwise humiliate whichever puny contestants stepped up to try their luck, beating or hindering them in a series of physical skill games. This took place before the big finale – where the contenders would race each other up a downwards escalator, while the gladiators were...

Justin Bieber is hosting "Saturday Night Live" tonight (Feb. 9) -- but not only that, he's also the musical guest, making him one of only 29 people to have simultaneously hosted and been the musical guest for an episode of "SNL."
Follow along with us here starting at 11:30 p.m. Et/Pt as we live-blog Bieber's appearance on the show. He was the musical guest once before in 2010 and made a cameo as Tina Fey's student in a kind of creepy sketch.
How do you think Bieber will do? All times Eastern.
11:29 -- We kick things off with a Super Bowl power outage opening sketch, with the "broadcasters" riffing during the blackout when they really don't have anything to talk about. Ummm ... if this is an indication of how funny the episode will be, we're in trouble. Bring on Bieber!

First up, please schedule your lunch breaks around snicks' liveblog of Days of Our Lives today and tomorrow.
I don't know about you, but I had a really, really terrible Monday. One thing that improved it was these pictures of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively having a backyard party with a dunk tank. Frankly, I'm amazed at the voodoo that keeps Ryan's trunks from falling down as low as they ride.
I didn't really think anything of it when I watched True Blood, but so soon after the controversy with George W. Bush's severed head on Game of Thrones, was it wise to put vigilantes in Obama masks?
Leave it to a group of physicists to take the fun out of Batman. They calculated that his flight with his cape is not only impossible, but if Wayne Enterprises geeks had figured out a way to make him glide, he...

After some yes-it-is, no-it-isn't, it turns out that yes, it is Brad Pitt's mother Jane that wrote a letter to her local paper slamming President Obama, a woman's right to choose, and marriage equality. I bet family dinners are fun. "Any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney’s opponent, Barack Hussein Obama — a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright’s church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage."
Rod McCollum writes over at Ebony about how Frank Ocean's coming out is a bigger deal than Anderson Cooper's, and I have to agree.
The Episcopal Church is preparing to approve a liturgy to bless same-sex unions. It bears a lot in common with marriage vows, but the...

Having established itself comfortably as a massive commercial success, with booming ratings and record music sales, it would be easy for "Glee" to sit on its dancing heels and churn out a carbon copy third season.
But creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy is planning on doing the exact opposite.
Having already revealed that some of the top cast members will graduate after this season -- and will be replaced at McKinley High by additional students who will be introduced this year -- Murphy revealed more about his plans in interviews with TV Line, TV Guide and The Hollywood Reporter.
Perhaps the biggest change will come for Sue Sylvester, the ornery cheerleading coach played to Emmy-winning perfection by Jane Lynch. She's worked to destroy the glee club for the last two seasons, and has had brief, if strange romantic interests, and Murphy plans to kick her story lines into another gear this coming season.

Glee co-creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy used to worry about how fans would react to the introduction of new characters to the show’s merry band of musical high-school outcasts. But as he plans Season 3 of Fox’s smash hit — including a long-envisioned “endgame,” a graduation strategy for New Directions’ senior classmen, and a fresh crop of young talent (including one warbler from his new Oxygen reality series The Glee Project) — Murphy says he’s put those worries behind him. ”It’s all about the stories and characters,” says Murphy. “It’s our job to find new [stars] that people will love,...

This country has produced plenty of great double acts down the years - Morecambe & Wise, Little & Large, Ant & Dec, The Chuckle Brothers - but why do we always stop at the number two? If two heads are better than one, then surely three are wiser than two. If any proof was needed, look no further than legendary pop songwriters and children's entertainers Rod, Jane & Freddy. They made their name on the camp and surreal ITV hit Rainbow before going it alone with their own self-titled series and stage show that toured the UK to much acclaim. Of course, what truly makes Rod, Jane & Freddy special is not just their TV talents, but also the mystery that remains around their unusual triangular relationship. Rod & Jane were at one time (more)...

One day, I am going to channel my inner Dante Alighieri, and like any good hack, copy his nine rings of hell from his “Inferno” to create my own categorization, “The Nine Circles of Movie Hell.” With this list, I will rightfully place all of the “Bad” Movies in the spot in which they are truly deserving of, with no sarcastic exaggeration utilized. Even something as disagreeably idiotic as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen would only be placed in the first or second ring, next to box-office bombs like From Justin To Kelly, etc. Further down the list, you might see something by Rob Schneider in the fifth or sixth tier. With no doubt, the 8th ring of Movie Hell would be occupied by championed crap-movies like Troll 2, and the Gandalf of trash, Manos: The Hands of Fate.
However, in the 9th circle of Hell, occupying the most important...

2010 Best Actor Academy Award-winner Jeff Bridges.
Editor’s Note: Congratulations to Jeff Bridges for finally getting his props with last night's win for "Crazy Heart"! He's now officially lost the title of "Most Underrated Actor of His Generation." In the spirit of Jeff's victory, we at The Interview thought it appropriate to share this article, which originally appeared in the July 1999 issue of Venice Magazine. Enjoy, and well-done, Jeff!

Jeff Bridges is arguably the most underrated great American actor since the late Robert Ryan. A performer of incredible range, whose myriad of characterizations over the past 30 years leave the filmgoer with a continued sense of awe and admiration, Bridges' refusal to fit a mold on-screen might be the very thing that has kept him from becoming a conventional movie star. It's also the thing that has kept his work so fascinating, and so brilliant.

Woo-hoo Sectionals! Excited? Open on Artie, Tina, Kurt and Mercedes in the rehearsal room debating over whom Will Schuester's replacement for sectionals is going to be. Rachel Berry impedes on their conversation to ask if anyone else has noticed the peculiarities of how Puck and Quinn's relate to each other in regards to her well being. The mood of her glee-mates quickly changes and they deny any knowledge of it, but nothing can fool Rachel's sixth sense. Making excuses, they hurry off to leave Rachel and her supernatural powers behind (she sees infidel people!).
In a six-way phone conversation, the aforementioned students, as well as the two Cheerio moles Britney and Santana discuss this new dilemma. Apparently, Mercedes has been busy running her mouth, and all of them have been extremely selfish. It seems the team camaraderie only extends as far as the performances. If Rachel discovers the truth that...

It's not quite like finding Daddy kissing Santa Claus underneath the mistletoe, but I really don't know how I feel about finding out that Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer has to be female. It's not anything against females, it's just the cartoon is a fond childhood memory. On the other hand, AfterEllen.com could do a story about Rudolph and her lesbian relationship with Clarice.
Think America is divided? At least with us, it's just polarizing political arguments. Evidently Africa is actually splitting in two, with a giant crack forming that will eventually become a new ocean. Buy some future beachfront property cheap now, be listening to the sound of the...

Rainbow, like most children's TV shows from the '70s and '80s, was often ruined by tiresome morals and educational interludes. Whether it was Geoffrey Hayes preaching about sharing or Rod, Jane and Freddy singing twee tunes about everyone being great friends, there was always an uncomfortable extra-curricular element to the Thames TV hit. However, the show's saving grace came in the shape of an orange glove puppet with a rugby ball for a head. Although not often credited with it, Zippy was probably one of the country's first true punk icons. He took no notice of traditional rules of behaviour, gladly shouting and misbehaving on primetime kids TV - he even had a metal piercing (the infamous zip) on his mouth. While (more)...

The fourth annual “Broadway Backwards” concert benefiting New York’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center raised the roof of the American Airlines theater on Monday, February 9. No surprise that the audience was packed; with such performers and presenters as Whoopi Goldberg, Mario Cantone, Alan Cumming, Cheyenne Jackson, Christopher Sieber, John Tartaglia, Michael Urie, and beloved Florence Henderson on hand, the show – in which well-known songs from Broadway musicals are presented in a new, gayer context – was really something else. Here are pics of this very special, one-night-only performance.

Alan Cumming and the male ensemble got the show going with the production number “Rainbow High,” from Evita.
Comedy legend Anne Meara kvelled as Kirsten Wyatt joyously sang “I Met a Girl” from Bells are Ringing, backed by the full company.
Whoopi Goldberg and company offered an all-female version of “Gee, Officer Krupke” from West Side Story.
