Ryan Reynolds & Samuel L. Jackson Sequel ‘The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’ Moves Earlier In The Summer
After Disney plopped its Ryan Reynolds action comedy Free Guy from 20th Century Studios on August 13, a week before Lionsgate’s sequel The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard which also stars Reynolds, it stood to reason the latter would move. The new date for the Reynolds-Samuel L. Jackson sequel, which also stars Salma Hayek, is June 16.
The announcement was made Monday by Ron Schwartz, Lionsgate’s president of worldwide distribution. The sequel, on its new date, arrives the weekend after Warner Bros/HBO Max’s feature musical In the Heights, and the weekend prior to Universal’s F9 on June 25. Also opening the weekend of June 16-18 is Focus Features’ Edgar Wright-directed feature documentary The Sparks Brothers.
Schwartz said, “This is the kind of summer action film that delivers even more comedy and more thrilling action than the first film – and it’s perfect for fans new to the franchise as well.

"I always get the shakes before a drop." The Bug War might be making its way back to the big screen, as another adaptation of Robert A. Heinlein's seminal science fiction novel Starship Troopers is in the works at Columbia Pictures.
THR reveals that Columbia Pictures has hired Mark Swift and Damian Shannon (2017's Baywatch, 2009's Friday the 13th, Freddy vs. Jason) to write the screenplay for a new movie based on Heinlein's epic tale of responsibility, space marines, and killer bugs from above. The new film is not expected to be a remake of 1997's Starship Troopers or its three sequels, but will instead be a new take on Heinlein's 1959 book.
Matthew Milam will supervise the project, with Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe on board as producers. Moritz and Jaffe also helped bring 2012's Total Recall remake to the big screen, and back when they were promoting that film,...

Another reboot of a ’90s classic is in the works and this time it’s Paul Verhoeven’s sci-fi film “Starship Troopers.” Per the Hollywood Reporter, Columbia Pictures is rebooting the cult classic and has assigned Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, the writing duo who penned the upcoming “Baywatch” film and the 2009 remake of “Friday the 13th,” to write the script for the new possible franchise.
The studio is not planning on remaking the original film. Instead, it will be going back to the original themes expressed in Robert A. Heinlein’s novel about the military life of a soldier who moves up the ranks as mankind fights a war against alien bugs. No staff from the 1997 movie will be involved in the new reboot.
Neal H. Moritz, the “Fast & Furious” franchise producer, will be producing with Toby Jaffe, whom he worked with on Columbia Picture’s “Total Recall” remake.

Warner Bros. has picked up movie rights to "3 Story: The Secret History of the Giant Man," a Dark Horse Comics graphic novel by Matt Kindt.
Dustin Lance Black, the Oscar-winning writer of "Milk," will pen and direct the adaptation, which will be produced by Mike Richardson via Dark Horse Entertainment.
The graphic novel is a modern fable, exploring the life of a giant man, Craig Pressgang, whose strange medical condition causes continuous growth. The tale is told from the point of view of three women -- his mother, wife and daughter -- and follows Craig's journey from birth to his eventual three-story height. It also serves as an exploration of loneliness and love's changing nature.
The acquisition by Warners is an eyebrow-raising move because the material is on the arty side and downbeat, too. But the studio responded to Black's take, which would focus on the father-daughter relationship and soften the melancholic ending.
