- He is best remembered as the captain of the RMS Carpathia, the ship that rescued the Titanic survivors. He received several awards for his rescue efforts. Among those awards it includes the American Cross of Honor, a gold medal from the Shipwreck Society of New York given to him along with a silver cup presented by Titanic survivor Margaret 'Molly' Brown, and a medal from the Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society.
