Mariah Carey is the quintessential crossover artist, with a catalog of hits that bridges the gap between pop, R&b, hip-hop, and house music. Though the so-called elusive chanteuse has shied away from the latter genre in recent years, she seems headed back into the fold. Just days after hopping on an R&b remix of Muni Long’s “Made for Me,” Mariah has dropped a deep house mix of “Portrait,” the closing track from her underrated 2018 album Caution.
Clocking in at a whopping 16 minutes, “Portrait” is the singer’s longest remix to date, including completely reworked vocals and snippets from her new Audible podcast, detailing how she approaches the remix process. “We usually just let the beat be anything,” she explains. “It didn’t have to be specifically in the same key or the same vibe…as the original. So you can just be free.”

It’s new Mariah Carey music week.
The singer dropped her remix to Muni Long’s viral TikTok hit, “Made for Me,” on Wednesday and, a day later, she is releasing Portrait of a Portrait: Words + Music, the Audible Original podcast where the star unpacks her deeply personal 2018 song, “Portrait,” and unveils a new dance remix to the track.
“I love ‘Portrait’ and I just never thought, ‘Oh, we’re going to remake this song as a ‘dance’ remix.’ That was never on my mind. It was a very sad song, very much about where I was at in my life at that moment,” she says. “We did a remix that was very different from the original version. It was very much peppy and happy, all the while still being kind of morose. I think it definitely gives new life to the song.”

Joseph recently posted a remark about his BB24 elimination, answering a query from host Julie Chen Moonves about the most memorable Double Evictions.
After playing Big Brother, Taylor and Joseph reunited in the real world, where they began a romantic relationship. The couple didn’t remain together but have stayed very close since then.

On Thursday, stars graced the brown carpet ahead of Essence‘s 17th annual Black Women in Hollywood Awards, where the honorees vulnerably highlighted the overall themes of faith, perseverance, joy and celebration.
With celebrating joy also comes the acknowledgement of the challenges many Black women have faced in the entertainment industry, as honorees Halle Bailey, Danielle Brooks, writer Nkechi Okoro Carroll and Starz exec Kathryn Busby shared how they each dealt with the ebbs and flows of their careers.
At the event, held at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles, Bailey opened up about the struggles of being in the spotlight. From “being burned,” learning some hard lessons along the way and prioritizing her privacy, the star said she still keeps the responsibility of being a positive influence for the next generation at the forefront.

Halle Bailey is showing her appreciation for all she has learned in the industry, from starting out as a musical duo with her sister to leading one of the biggest movies last year and kicking off her solo music career.
The singer-actress spoke about her unique path as an artist at the Grammy U Masterclass on Friday, moderated by Muni Long.
Bailey and her older sister, Chloe Bailey, initially got noticed from the music covers they would post on YouTube as teenagers. But things changed once Beyoncé discovered them and signed the sister R&b duo Chloe x Halle to her label in 2015.
“I don’t think I would be able to be in this industry or start this way without her, you know, because she was the one that was pulling us both forward to be like, ‘Come on, we can do this,’” she said of her sister, adding...

It’s been almost 20 years since Mariah Carey last won a Grammy, so when she received the Global Impact Award from the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective, she offered a dose of her signature comical shade.
“Is this a real Grammy? I haven’t seen one in soooooo long,” she said Thursday night as she held the award.
“It’s weird. I don’t know,” Carey continued while laughing as the audience at the Fairmont Century Plaza cheered her on. “We’ll figure out what this is later.”
Carey is easily one of the best-selling acts of all-time and holds the record for most No. 1 hits — 20 — by a solo artist. She’s been nominated for 34 Grammys, winning five: best new artist and best female pop vocal performance (“Vision of Love”) in 1991, as well as three R&b honors at the 2006 ceremony for “We Belong Together” and The Emancipation of Mimi.

Universal Music Group set the music world aflame on Tuesday with its scathing open letter announcing that it would yank its music from TikTok after its licensing agreement with the platform expires on January 31. That letter is Umg’s equivalent of a nuclear bomb threat, the culmination of a year of tense negotiations between the world’s largest music corporation and its most important viral marketing device.

The 66th Grammy nominations are just days away, and one of the most exciting races is Best New Artist, a category that can make or break a career. Usually an amalgamation of some of the biggest genres around, the award typically has a great mix of huge breakouts and hidden gems. But among so many worthy debutantes, which eight will make up the class of 2024?
The biggest lock for a nomination this year is Ice Spice. The Bronx rapper has made waves with her infectious style and collaborations with big artists like Nicki Minaj, PinkPantheress, Lil Tjay, and Taylor Swift. Such major collaborations are already a big deal, but Ice has also scored hits on her own, like “In Ha Mood” and “Deli.” Following her victory at the 2023 VMAs for Best New Artist, Ice might continue her hot streak with a Grammy victory, especially with possible support from both rap and pop voters.

Stars have been coming together to share support for the Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike since it officially commenced on July 14 after ongoing negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) failed. Before Justin Bieber's "Journals," there was Ariana Grande's "Yours Truly."
It was Aug. 30, 2013, and Grande - who rose to fame on Nickelodeon's "Victorious" and "Sam & Cat" - suddenly emerged as a musical superstar with her debut album. Thanks to her dreamy voice and impressive range, the budding phenom, who was then 20 years old, proved she was so much more than just a teen star.
The album was a testament of how '90s R&b, hip-hop, pop, and doo-wop can complement one another.
Paired with production by Babyface, The Rascals (Leon Thomas III and Khris Riddick-Tynes), Antonio Dixon, Harmony Samuels, Tommy Brown (aka TBHits), as well as cowriting credits from the aforementioned and Victoria Monét, Sevyn Streeter, Jordin Sparks, and Priscilla Renea (now Muni Long), "Yours Truly" was an instant victory. Charlie Puth has unveiled a sensual new single, “Lipstick.” The song arrived with an intimate music video that zooms in on Puth as he removes his shirt and blows smoke out of his mouth.
“Lipstick,” which sees Puth asking someone to put their lipstick on his neck and body, was produced by Happy Perez and Pop Wansel. It will serve as the lead single of Puth’s forthcoming fourth LP, which has yet to get a release date.

I am not a gearhead, so I have always looked at the Fast and the Furious franchise from a distance. But their popularity makes them hard to avoid. Fast X, the tenth installment in the series, arrives on disc and streaming this week from Universal Home Entertainment and no doubt entertains those who have been there from the beginning.
As with any franchise with multiple chapters, there’s the core set of characters and then all the supporting players who drop in and out of these chapters as needed. And, to keep things interesting, new players are added, usually the antagonist and maybe a new ally or frenemy.
Here, we have the sociopathic Dante (Jason Momoa) seeking vengeance on Dom (Vin Diesel) for the death of his father (Joaquim de Almeida) a decade earlier, as depicted in Fast Five. With seemingly limitless cash and men at his disposal, he has...

If you plan to attend Usher's "My Way" Las Vegas residency, you'll want to arrive early because you don't want to miss the preshow dance party courtesy of his unmatched fans. As I walked into the Park MGM arena for the show I was attending in late June, my ears were greeted with classic R&b and hip-hop songs like Tevin Campbell's "Can We Talk" and Miguel's "Adorn You" as a DJ encouraged us to stand, dance, and sing along with the rest of the audience. Usher's dancers even came out and interacted with the audience, inviting some lucky attendees to dance with them on stage. The vibes felt more like a house party with all of my best friends than a concert surrounded by strangers. So much so that I didn't even realize the show was starting.

The inaugural Harlem Festival of Culture, which was set to take place this weekend with performances from A$AP Fern, Teyana Taylor, Wyclef and more, has been canceled due to the threat of extreme heat.
Festival organizers announced the decision on Instagram Friday, July 28, citing President Joe Biden’s warning yesterday for Americans to “listen to public officials and stay indoors” because of an ongoing heatwave and poor air quality.
“After strong consideration to this severe weather impacting New York City, it is with a heavy heart that we have...
