Dublin, Sept 1 (Ians) Cricket Ireland have named a 15-member men’s squad that will face current World Cup holders England in a three-match Odi series happening from September 20-26.
The Ireland squad will be led by opener Paul Stirling and will play matches against England at Headingley (Leeds), Trent Bridge (Nottingham) and The Seat Unique Stadium (Bristol). Graham Hume is back in place of Fionn Hand while Neil Rock also returns to the side.
Ireland will have a new-look top-order, with Andrew Balbirnie set to open with Stirling and pace all-rounder Curtis Campher to bat at number three.

Netflix released first-look images for “Sex Education” Season 4 on Wednesday, as the final episodes of the acclaimed series are set to debut on Sept. 21.
As previously announced, the high school dramedy will end after its fourth installment. The pictures hint at what’s to come for the beloved ensemble cast as they transition from Moordale Secondary — which was shut down last season — to Cavendish Sixth Form College.
Otis (Asa Butterfield) faces the challenge of re-establishing his sex therapy clinic at a school that is way more progressive than Moordale was. The show’s official logline summarizes life at Cavendish as “daily yoga in the communal garden, a strong sustainability vibe and a group of kids who are popular for being… kind?!”
Academic overachiever Viv (Chinenye) finds the college’s student-led, non-competitive approach bewildering. Jackson Marchetti (Kedar Williams-Stirling) still holds heartbreak over Cal (Dua Saleh), and Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood) takes...

Bulawayo, June 19 (Ians) Kashyap Prajapati, Aqib Ilyas and captain Zeeshan Maqsood struck half-centuries as Oman made the first upset victory of the Men’s Odi World Cup qualifiers by chasing down 282 against a much-fancied Ireland with five wickets in hand and 11 balls to spare at the Bulawayo Athletic Club on Monday.
The five-wicket victory over Ireland is Oman’s first-ever victory over a Test nation in an Odi, triggering jubilant scenes in the team dugout as the gulf nation completed their highest-ever successful run chase in the format, throwing Group B wide open.
A flurry of lower-order runs took Ireland to 281/7, with George Dockrell slamming a career-best 91 while Harry Tector made 52, though the side played a whopping 157 dot balls in their innings.
In reply, Oman chased their target down in style, thanks to efforts from Prajapati, Ilyas and Maqsood in a largely unbothered chase, followed by Mohammad Nadeem (46 not out...

My father, Howard Rodman Sr., worked in one-hour episodic network drama in the 1960s, notably on Route 66 and Naked City. There were no writers rooms then in one-hour drama. Only two people, called “story editors,” and a pool of freelancers. That was it. The two of them — my father and Stirling Silliphant — wrote or rewrote every single episode.
You can only imagine — meaning you can’t imagine — the pressure they were under. In those days, a season of television was 32-39 weeks. For comparison: picture having to write and film four seasons of Succession in a span of ten months. (And then, after the shortest of breaks, doing it all again.)
They wrote pages in Los Angeles that were put on airplanes in hopes that they could be shot the next morning in New York. They used every prescription drug available to keep up the pace.

But going into the final day’s play, they were facing an uphill battle for survival after Sri Lanka declared on 704/3 in their first innings and Ireland had lost two wickets on day four.
Day five’s play began with Andrew Balbirnie and Harry Tector in the middle, but the Ireland captain was struck on the helmet by a bouncer from the fiery Asitha Fernando and left the field after receiving medical attention.

Galle, April 25 (Ians) Paul Stirling, who had retired hurt on the opening day, and Curtis Camper struck centuries to help Ireland reach 492 and posted their highest score on the second day of the second and final Test against Sri Lanka here on Tuesday.
Ireland, overnight on 319/4, suffered an early blow when the well-set Lorcan Tucker was castled for 80 but staged a fabulous recovery to come within touching distance of 500.
Stirling had retired hurt with 74 on Monday due to severe cramps but came back on Tuesday to complete his century off 174 balls and completed a half-century partnership for the sixth wicket. He was eventually out for 103, caught by Dhananjaya de Silva off Asitha Fernando, his 181-ball knock included nine boundaries and four maximums at the Galle International Stadium here.
Curtis Campher completed his fifty off 111 balls as Ireland reached 400 runs in 117.5 overs. He and Andy McBrine raised fifty runs for the...

Galle, April 24 (Ians) Captain Andrew Balbirnie hit a masterful 95 before Lorcan Tucker surpassed him as Ireland’s leading Test run-scorer as Ireland reached 319/4 on Day One of the second and final Test match of the series against Sri Lanka on Monday.
Balbirnie registered his career-best Test score in a century stand with Paul Stirling but was dismissed five runs short of a maiden hundred in the evening session. Stirling also reached a career-best total of 74 before retiring hurt, struggling with cramps.
The two batting stalwarts led the rebuilding job after Sri Lanka took early wickets, reducing the visitors to 43/2, with Pj Moor and James McCollum falling cheaply. Harry Tector was given out on an lbw decision on 11, but the review showed the ball bouncing over the wicket. But he was only able to add another seven runs before he charged down the pitch off Prabath Jayasuriya, and hit straight to a stretching mid-on fielder.

Dublin, April 3 (Ians) Opener Paul Stirling is set to join Ireland’s Test squad for the tour of Sri Lanka and will be available for selection for the second Test to be played in Galle from April 24-28. Stirling’s addition makes Ireland’s travelling squad a 16-player party for the second game of the two-Test series.
Ireland’s tour to Sri Lanka was initially supposed to consist of one Test and two ODIs. But the hosts’ quest to get more red-ball matches meant the two ODIs got converted into an extra Test match. Both the Tests will be played in Galle between April 16 and 28.
“Paul was originally set to join the squad in Sri Lanka for the Odi series that was originally planned. However, with those fixtures now converted to a Test match, and the scheduled Bangladesh T20I series in Ireland postponed, he will now have a greater...

BBC Two’s new primetime Sunday night drama, Sas Rogue Heroes, will follow the adrenaline-fuelled origins of the Sas during the Second World War.
Written and directed by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, and based on bestselling author Ben Macintyre’s book, Sas Rogue Heroes stars Jack O’Connell, Alfie Allen and Connor Swindells as the fearless real-life soldiers who formed the Special Forces unit.
Knight, meanwhile, previously shared that he had to tone down the script to make the true tories of the war heroes seem more plausible, with the series carrying a disclaimer that the events in the show “seem most unbelievable” but “are mostly true”.
Macintyre told The Times that the new TV adaptation of his book has a “rocking modern soundtrack, gripping action and some superb individual performances”.

Belfast (Ireland), Aug 13 (Ians) Ireland’s middle-order batter George Dockrell struck his maiden T20I half-century but the hosts still ended up losing the third game by 22 runs as Afghanistan clawed back after two successive defeats to finally taste success in the five-match series on Saturday (Ist).
The touring side’s top four batters delivered to put up a strong total of 189/5, and Ireland were quickly reduced to 36/4 in their run chase.
The hosts looked down and out at 85/7 in the 13th over, but Dockrell (58 not out off 37 balls) and debutant Fionn Hand (36 off 18) kept Ireland’s hopes alive with an eighth-wicket partnership worth 74 — just six runs short of a world-record eighth wicket stand in T20I cricket, according to Cricket Ireland. In the end, though, Afghanistan held on to celebrate their first win of the series to make it 1-2 after three games.

Disney director Chris Williams left the studio after 25 years to pursue his animated dream project: “The Sea Beast,” an adventure in the tradition of “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” that’s now streaming on Netflix. The film is about legendary sea monster hunter Jacob (Karl Urban), who pursues the Red Leviathan with the aid of an orphaned stowaway, Maisie (Zaris-Angel Hator). She eventually bonds with and befriends the creature, which echoes “How to Train Your Dragon.”
“This is one of those where I have to go all the way back to the movies that I loved the most when I was a kid,” Williams told IndieWire. “The ’70s version of ‘King Kong,’ the Ray Harryhausen stop-motion, action-adventure movies about leaving the known world and venturing off into the unknown. They really touched a nerve in me, and I’ve always wanted to make one of those movies.”

It comes after Peacock handed the show, which is based on the breakout ITV2 format, a two season, 80-episode order.
She will be joined by British comedian Iain Stirling as narrator. Stirling voices the British series with a cutting charm.
It is the latest non-scripted hosting gig for Hyland, who fronts Play-Doh Squished for Amazon’s Freevee. Hyland is also set to star in Peacock’s Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin.
