Director Fede Álvarez’s contribution to the Alien franchise, Alien: Romulus, is set to reach theatres on August 16th (you can watch the teaser Here), and to promote the film, Álvarez recently sat down for an interview with Total Film. During the conversation, the director said that Alien: Romulus starts off reminiscent of Ridley Scott’s Alien, then gradually becomes more like James Cameron’s Aliens – which seems fitting, given that the story actually takes place sometime in the years between the events of Alien and Aliens.
Álvarez said, “The environments, and the pace of it as well – it’s more similar to Alien for quite a bit. And then gradually – you won’t even know – you feel like it’s more Aliens. It’s a natural progression, and it happens effortlessly.“
Álvarez also revealed that he and co-writer Rodo Sayagues consulted Cameron about the script during an extensive phone...

The Penguin is ready to take the big seat. Colin Farrell is back as The Penguin in the new trailer for his Max series, which spins out of the world of the 2022 DC film The Batman.
In the events of the film, The Penguin served as a lieutenant to crime boss Carmine Falcone, who meets an untimely end. Now, The Penguin is stepping up to lead crime in Gotham City in a series that looks like DC’s answer to The Sopranos.
The series hails from DC Studios, the Warner Bros. division run by James Gunn and Peter Safran, who are plotting out their own shared universe of movies and TV shows. Both The Batman and The Penguin are considered separate from those plans, and take place in their own universe under the Elseworlds banner — a nod to alternate universe stories in the DC Comics.

HBO is delving even further into the Westeros history books: The network is eyeing a prequel to Game of Thrones focused on the reign of Aegon I Targaryen, with writer Mattson Tomlin (The Batman) slated to pen the series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The proposed series — which is only in the very early stages of development at this time — would take place about a century before HBO’s current prequel House of the Dragon (which itself is set 200 years prior to Game of Thrones) and tell the tale of King Aegon I Targaryen, who was the very first to...

Cailee Spaeny plays the title character in director Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla Presley biopic Priscilla, and she also happens to have a lead role in director Fede Alvarez’s upcoming addition to the Alien franchise, a film that may or may not be titled Alien: Romulus. That movie is on track for an August 16, 2024 theatrical release – and while talking with Variety‘s Michaela Zee, Spaeny revealed that the story is set between the events of the original Alien and its sequel Aliens.
Spaeny said, “It’s supposed to slot in between the first movie and the second movie. They brought the same team from Aliens, the James Cameron film. The same people who built those xenomorphs actually came on and built ours. So getting to see the original design with the original people who have been working on these films for 45-plus years and has been so much of their life has been really incredible.

Barry Keoghan is definitely starting to show up on everyone’s radar lately. After making appearances in films like Dunkirk and Marvel Studio’s Eternals, a mass audience may be starting to get more and more familiar with the Dublin actor. Then, Keoghan made a splash with his Academy Award-nominated role in The Banshees of Inisherin. Many have also seen him in another big role that they have perhaps not realized. Keoghan can be heard but not seen in Matt Reeves’ The Batman as The Joker. However, in a deleted scene of The Batman, Keoghan’s Joker can only be seen through a semi-transparent partition.
It had been revealed a while ago that Keoghan initially auditioned for the main villain role of The Riddler in The Batman. The Hollywood Reporter has now revealed that Keoghan was determined to play up his self-taped audition with some props that he purchased. Keoghan...

The following article contains spoilers for "The Batman."
Paul Dano gave a powerful performance as Edward Nashton, aka The Riddler, in "The Batman." The character was re-imagined as a creepily modern (and realistic) villain who recruits followers online, keeping his identity secret. Nashton started off as a destitute orphan before taking out people he perceives as being rich and corrupt, all the while sending messages to Batman (Robert Pattinson), an individual Nashton thinks will be very pleased with his machinations.
Batman, as a character, is typically defined by his opponents and vice versa. Like The Joker (Heath Ledger) in "The Dark Knight" says to Christian Bale's Caped Crusader, "I don't wanna kill you, what would I do without you? Go back to rippin' off mob dealers? No, no, you complete me." The Riddler in "The Batman" is no different. Edward Nashton has a sense of hero worship for Batman...

Robert Pattinson has been a huge star for decades, from popular YA novel adaptations like "Twilight" to critically acclaimed indies like "Good Time." The 2022 film "The Batman" weds a global franchise with a gritty, cinematic edge, which could also describe Pattinson's career trajectory. The actor might have seemed like a shoo-in for the role, but a major blunder almost cost him the gig entirely. Pattinson was attached to the project very early on but, as it turns out, the press decided to cast him before the director did.
Just days before the "Tenet" star was set to screen test for perhaps the biggest role of his lifetime, the papers announced that he already had the part.
"When that thing leaked, I was f***ing furious," Pattinson told Variety. "Everyone was so upset. Everyone was panicking from my team. I sort of thought that had blown up the whole thing." Ironically,...

They've been together for a while, but the notoriously private Suki Waterhouse and Robert Pattinson only made their red carpet debut in December 2022. Since then, Waterhouse has reflected on the relationship publicly, admitting during a February interview with The Sunday Times Style that she's "shocked that I'm so happy with someone for nearly five years."
The longest the couple have spent apart is apparently two months, which is surprising, considering their busy schedules. Waterhouse stars in the Amazon Prime Video series "Daisy Jones & The Six," which premiered on March 3 - and apparently, she even tried to get her "The Batman" boyfriend to help with the audition. "Rob definitely isn't getting advice from me about acting, but of course I'll try and get him to help me with an audition before he falls asleep on the sofa," she said.

Robert Pattinson is returning as the cape crusader in a sequel from Matt Reeves, who helmed his first outing as the Batman. The film concluded with a rather neat ending — Batman successfully protected the city of Gotham from the Riddler (Paul Dano) and is finally regarded as the city's savior. With Riddler in Arkham Asylum, the ending leaves much room for Reeves to incorporate various Batman villains from the comics.
One of the final scenes of the film already teased Barry Keoghan's Joker and the character's presence at Arkham, to fans' surprise. While Keoghan appears for mere moments at the end of "The Batman," during which he is seen maniacally laughing with The Riddler, there's a deleted scene where he talks with Batman himself. The existing filmed scenes could very well lead the way to the second chapter in the caped crusader's early years — and there's a comic book storyline that illustrates it all.

Colin Farrell is not the type of actor you can easily fit in a box. That may sound like a compliment now, a testament to his range, but there was a time when that might have worked against him, or at the very least: his status as a leading man. In the early aughts, Farrell seemed to be everywhere, trying on every role available to him. His insanely good looks and simmering intensity made him an undeniable box office draw, but the burden of the leading man — the hyper-masculine, hyper-cool version that dominated the 2000s — wasn't always a proper fit. That might be because Farrell, for all his conventional beauty and latent charisma ... is kind of a weird little guy. His intensity can often come off a bit like mania, and he seems much more comfortable in roles that subvert all that aforementioned appeal.
Obviously, there's nothing wrong with that.

Playing a villain is never easy. How do you relate to a totally deplorable character? For Paul Dano, this challenge ended up being an incredible experience. Dano plays the duplicitous Riddler in "The Batman" (2022). As an actor, he has never shied away from a challenge. He is known for playing morally complicated roles in critically acclaimed dramas like "There Will Be Blood" and "Little Miss Sunshine," but the Riddler may have been his most antagonistic role to date. Despite his character's sinister tendencies, Dano found compassion for the Riddler and totally fell in love with the part.
The actor was immediately interested in the role when he read the screenplay written by writer-director Matt Reeves. "The key was Matt Reeves' totally beautiful script, which I will say I was honestly so surprised by," Dano confessed to ExtraTV. He was attracted to the idea "that there could be a Batman script...

The world of "The Batman" is expanding. In their massive report detailing the recent moves being made at Warner Bros. with the DC brand, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Matt Reeves is currently discussing the potential for multiple "Batman" spinoffs based on the Caped Crusader's rogues gallery. While no projects have been greenlit yet (or are even past the discussion stage), Reeves is speaking with several writers and directors in order to expand the version of Gotham he introduced earlier this year.
Of course, we already know that Colin Farrell's Penguin will be getting his own spinoff series, but he won't be alone. Both movies and series are being pitched that involve well-known — and lesser-known — Batman villains, with three standing out in particular: Scarecrow, Professor Pyg, and Clayface.
The fact that these rogues are being discussed gives a very interesting picture of how Reeves might be planning to develop his version of Gotham.

This article contains major spoilers for "Werewolf By Night"
In just under an hour, "Werewolf By Night" made me very excited for the future of monsters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while cementing itself as one of the coolest standalone projects from Marvel Studios. Composer Michael Giacchino ("The Batman") may provide the dark and whimsical sound of this Halloween special, but it's his sharp direction that shows a debut filmmaker who is only getting started.
"Werewolf By Night" is a gloriously gothic ode to the Classic Universal Monsters, Hammer horror, and "The Twilight Zone" that I never wanted to end. Giacchino spoke to my monster-loving heart with his insistence on keeping the titular monster as practical as possible.
A significant portion of the MCU often takes what should be an image that pops, and dilutes the color to the point where it looks like wet concrete sloshed all over the frame.

In the DC Extended Universe, it’s not the villains who have identity issues, but the heroes. Bruce Wayne watched his parents get murdered, adopted a teenage sidekick and now spends his nights cosplaying as the creature everyone associates with vampires. Kal-El also saw his parents die and goes through life trying to pass as the earthling Clark Kent, wearing spandex under his work clothes, just in case. These are not the traits of well-adjusted normies, and as such, there’s enormous subversive appeal in seeing trans artist Vera Drew turn such iconic characters inside-out in the illicitly made marvel that is “The People’s Joker.”
Coming from a place of deep fan love and equally profound institutional mistrust, Drew’s anarchic feature-length parody impishly treads the line of fair use, so much so that the helmer pulled the film from the Toronto Film Festival after its raucous Midnight Madness premiere,...
