I love me some damn dirty apes, and I’m not alone. Ever since the first Planet of the Apes movie in 1968, it’s been one of Hollywood’s most consistent (on a quality level) franchises. Think about it. Has there ever really been a lousy Planet of the Apes movie? Not really. Yet, it’s often unheralded when we talk about the great franchises. So, let’s look at the series as a whole, with this Planet of the Apes movies ranked list (from worst to best). And don’t worry – you’ll get to have your say tomorrow with a poll I’ll be publishing, so check back for that.

The following article contains spoilers for "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes."
The "Planet of the Apes" reboot trilogy made a lot of big changes to the (already wonky) timeline of the original films, like making Caesar's revolt more grounded rather than it happening in a futuristic society where apes somehow replaced dogs as the biggest domesticated companion to humans.
But for the most part, they have been faithful, showing us how our world could end up becoming a dystopia where apes treat humans as cattle or slaves. They incorporated some of the biggest iconographies from the originals, from iconic phrases like "get your stinking paws off me, you damn dirty ape" to the Alpha and Omega cult and characters named after those in the original. The new film, "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," the first in what is hopefully a new trilogy continues that tradition. It...

The Planet Of The Apes franchise has seen five feature films from the original movies, one from Tim Burton in 2001, a successful prequel series starring the amazing Andy Serkis, a live-action television series, an animated Saturday morning series, comic books, trading cards, action figures, you name it.
50 years ago in 1974 20th Century Fox came up with the clever idea to offer all five movies at once to select movie theaters, and program them together as a “Go Ape!” movie marathon.
Inventive marketing at the time, the films starred the incomparable Roddy McDowall, who played Cornelius and Caesar, in 4 out of the 5 movies. All the movies can now be found on streaming services.
In 2024, Pota fans were offered the chance to see the film on May 8th at the special Fan Event and “Go Ape” again!

Grossing over $2 billion worldwide since its inception in 1968, the Planet of the Apes franchise has turned out to be one of the most successful ones in Hollywood. Based on French author Pierre Boulle’s 1963 novel La Planète des singes, the title has released a total of nine movies, expanding its lore, with a tenth one, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes starring The Witcher actress Freya Allan in a leading role and set some 300 years after the events of the last outing.
A rough outline of all the movies involves humans, intelligent apes, and some sort of conflict. However, the dystopian setting where mankind comes down on its knees to face a brutal twist of fate sets the narrative in different orders for the different iterations. Someone who has just embarked on watching, or one who wishes to refresh their memory of the events of the films, need not watch all nine of them.

After the newest "Planet of the Apes" trilogy wrapped up in 2017 with director Matt Reeves' stunning, Biblical epic "War for the Planet of the Apes," fans were left with two pressing questions. One, why the heck wasn't Andy Serkis ever recognized by the Oscars for his genuinely award-worthy performance as Caesar? Secondly, would the actor ever return for future movies down the line, despite the fact that Caesar meets a heartbreaking but poignant end by the conclusion of the film? There's precedent within this franchise for actors once again taking the lead role in subsequent sequels as a different character, of course -- look no further than Roddy McDowall starring in the original "Planet of the Apes" and "Escape from the Planet of the Apes" as the chimpanzee Cornelius before coming back in "Conquest" and eventually "Battle" to play the role of Cornelius' son and Caesar.
So why not keep the tradition going,...

Marvel is boldly going to revisit one of the most classic eras in the history of sci-fi history -- in comic book form. The publisher has announced a new limited series set within the timeline of the original "Planet of the Apes" films. Specifically, the series will serve as a prequel to the original 1968 classic starring Charlton Heston. That's right! It's prequel time. So get ready for "Beware the Planet of the Apes."
Marc Guggenheim is set to write the comic, with Álvaro López handling the artwork. The series will include familiar characters, such as Cornelius (played by Roddy McDowall in the films) and his wife Zira (played by Kim Hunter). Perhaps most importantly, the woman who we come to know as Nova (played by Linda Harrison) is also involved. A synopsis for the series reads as follows:

Bosnian-Dutch filmmaker Ena Sendijarević’s Locarno prizewinner “Sweet Dreams,” a droll satire set on a sugar plantation in colonial-era Indonesia, has released its first trailer. Athens-based production and sales outfit Heretic has given Variety exclusive access ahead of the film’s North American premiere in the Centerpiece section of the Toronto Film Festival (see below).
“Sweet Dreams” is set on a remote island in the Dutch East Indies during the waning days of the colonial era. It centers on Dutch plantation owner Jan (Hans Dagelet) and his wife, Agathe (Renée Soutendijk), who are at the top of the food chain. That is, until Jan, upon returning from his nightly visit to his native concubine, Siti (Hayati Azis), suddenly drops dead in front of his wife.
Desperate to keep the privileges of her status quo, Agathe forces her estranged son Cornelius (Florian Myjer) and his heavily pregnant wife, Josefien (Lisa Zweerman...

Writer-director Ena Sendijarević’s second feature, Sweet Dreams, follows a recent trend of arthouse films — including Zama, The Settlers and The Tale of King Crab — that explore Europe’s troubled colonial history through a postmodern mix of satire, surrealism and cinematic lyricism.
All of these elements are present in a story set in 1900 in the Dutch East Indies, where a family running a prosperous sugar plantation finds its status quo upended when their patriarch suddenly passes away. Left to deal with the fallout, the landowner’s wife and children are quickly exposed to the limits, as well as the terrors, of colonialism, in the face of Indigenous people who refuse to keep bowing down.
Shot in the 1.33:1 Academy ratio and divided into chapters like a novella, Sendijarević’s movie maintains a certain distance from its subject, gazing at it through a contemporary prism that critiques the racism and exploitation of the epoch.

Cornelius’s seventh studio album, Dream in Dream, falls more in line with the Japanese multi-instrumentalist’s previous release, 2017’s largely ambient Mellow Waves, than any of his earlier (and livelier) efforts, and the two back-to-back albums point to an emerging late-period trend toward minimalism. But while Mellow Waves stripped Cornelius’s sound down to its most essential elements, Dream in Dream effectively leverages his keen compositional abilities with his ear for catchy pop melodies.
Opener “Change and Vanish” kicks things off with a misdirection of sorts: After a brief bit of distorted reverb, it seems as if the entirety of track might be composed of just a few sour synthesizer notes, but cascading synth arpeggios eventually bubble through the sparse mix. The same kind of bait-and-switch can be found on the muzzy “Environmental,” whose backend is suddenly filled with 8-bit-era chiptuned notes and woozy electronics.

Owen Teague consulted with his idol Andy Serkis before starring in 'Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes'.The 24-year-old actor plays chimpanzee Cornelius in the upcoming movie and revealed how he sought the advice of 'The Lord of the Rings' actor - who previously featured in the franchise as Caesar - on how to adapt to the challenge of motion capture acting.Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Owen said: "Well, we all talked to Andy Serkis. He and I had a meeting, and he was part of why I became an actor. So this was something that I'd been wanting to do my entire life, and it was literally a dream come true to get to do this job and play this character."The hardest part about it was just learning how to be in a suit all day and have a camera strapped to your head. As massive as the entertainment industry is, there’s a small-world aspect to it that You Hurt My Feelings star Owen Teague can attest to as much as anyone. The Florida native’s career really took off when he was cast to play a young version of Ben Mendelsohn’s Bloodline character, Danny Rayburn, in mere photographs and old home videos, as that led to proper flashbacks and the critical role of Danny’s troubled son, Nolan. Andrea Riseborough also played his mother on the series, and two would later reunite as mother and son in Michael Morris’ To Leslie (2022), which garnered Riseborough one of the most improbable Oscar nominations of all time.
In the case of You Hurt My Feelings, writer-director Nicole Holofcener had previously cast Teague in the Kathryn Hahn-led series, Mrs. Fletcher, so the Oscar-nominated filmmaker went out to Teague for the role of Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ son in the character-driven comedy-drama.

Owen Teague is busy. So much so that even the rising young actor still hasn’t seen his latest film “Eileen” (Neon), co-starring Anne Hathaway and Thomasin McKenzie, which premiered at Sundance in January.
“How is the movie?,” he asked on a recent Zoom call with IndieWire. That’s because he was down in Australia for six months playing Cornelius, the horse-riding chimpanzee lead in the upcoming sequel, “The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”.
Ever since he first moved to California from Florida at age 18, ditching NYU in order to shoot a movie with Gary Oldman (“Mary”) in Alabama, he has lived out of a suitcase. “I was just working.
