Canada-based actor Colm Feore, whose credits include Netflix’s “The Umbrella Academy,” “My Salinger Year,” “The Amazing Spiderman 2” and multiple Oscar winner “Chicago,” is to star in post-apocalyptic Western “Six Guns for Hire,” which has just started principal photography in Toronto, Canada. The film also stars Maurice Dean Wint, Oyin Oladejo, and Patrick Kwok-Choon.
“Six Guns for Hire,” the third in a trilogy, is written and directed by Matt Campagna. It follows a vicious group of strangers who gather to divvy up the spoils of a train robbery, while an ace detective pursues hot on their trail. As the bandits realize they may not be strangers after all, the detective unearths a deadly conspiracy at the heart of their crime.
The three stories in the trilogy series, all developed and directed by Campagna, exist within the same post-apocalyptic world, without being traditional sequels or prequels to each other.

Denmark is not really known for genre fare, even if it counts one of the hardest working independent genre actors today, Kim Sonderholm, who also appears in The Ringmaster (aka Finale), among its number. In fact it’s been over 4 years since the last (unless you count the genre-esque output of Lars Von Trier), Kasper Juhl’s Monstrosity. Now Søren Juul Petersen’s film looks to put Denmark on the horror map once again, with a film that isn’t afraid to actually be horrific!
Set on the day that Denmark has reached the finals of the European Championships and everyone is glued to their TVs, Finale takes place, for the most part, at a small petrol station on the edge of town.

Ace but brutal crime thriller Gangs Of London has just landed on our screens in a hail of blood and bullets. It’s an ultra violent, incredibly complex story of the multiple criminal factions in the capital city as well as an intense family saga which begins with crime lord and head of the Wallace family, Finn (Colm Meaney), being assassinated.
What follows is an intense nine part thriller full of twists, turns, surprises and a massive body count. It’s also very complicated. Here’s our handy guide to what happens in the finale, what it means for a second series and where all the main players are left at the end of Gangs Of London.
Who killed Finn Wallace?
As we saw in the first episode, the actual hit was carried out by Darren (Aled ap Steffan) with Ioan (Darren Evans) driving him. Both are now dead. The Danish Militia ordered the hit,...

Before the international success of “The Raid” , the team comprised of Gareth Evans, Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian shot another film that highlighted Pencak Silat, “Merantau,” which actually served as the guide for “The Raid.”
Yuda is a young but skilled practitioner of Silat, who lives in West Sumatra. He is about to embark on the “merantau”, a kind of pilgrimage that involves a trip from his village to Jakarta, where he is supposed to open a school and teach Silat. In his way, he meets Eric, a man who has already completed the merantau, and is now living in Jakarta. Eric tells Yuda that he cannot make a living in the city just by teaching, but the young man is too optimistic to believe him. However, his problems start upon his arrival, as the house he was supposed to live is torn down and he is...

So, yeah. Sylvester Stallone has announced that he'll be gearing up a new Rambo film in 2015 and you could wait for that, I guess, if that's your thing. Or you could watch Half Past Original's American Soldier: Blood Brothers right now. It's pretty much the same thing. Only with none of the budget. And Merantau baddie Mads Koudal in place of Stallone. And an English dub provided but 'actors' provided only their own lines with no context. Myself included. Other than that: Exactly the same. Yup....

Interestingly, although an Indonesian kung-fu film, Merantau was written, directed and edited by Welshman Gareth Evans, a man who should be very proud of his well-made second feature film.
Merantau is the name of the journey which must be undertaken by young men in order to come of age. We follow Yuda on his pilgrimage from his tiny village to Jakarta. His intentions are to teach martial arts to children, though his plan goes awry and he finds himself protecting Astri, a young woman who is being pursued by human traffickers and her young brother Adit.
As with many kung-fu films, enjoyment requires a certain amount of suspension of disbelief – of course every thug Yuda runs into is an adept martial artist and of course, not one of these thugs carries a gun or a...

Though prolific in its own right, the Indonesian film industry have had a tough time penetrating markets beyond their own borders. The ones that receive international distribution—especially the United States—are often arthouse films with the limited target audience of festivalheads. The broader Indonesian films, for better or worse, tend to incite little interest. It's bittersweet that Merantau, which not only nabbed an Audience Award at the 2009 Fantastic Fest but also got picked up by Magnet Releasing for Us distribution, is written and directed by a foreigner.
Martial arts films used to be all the rage in Indonesian cinema, but for the past two decades, as the film industry itself waned, martial arts films disappeared, as well. Merantau is the first serious treatment given to one since the so-called new wave of Indonesian films in the 21st century.

There's a remarkable moment in the midst of the knock-down, drag-out climax of Merantau, after our hero and the two main villains have fought long, hard, and dirty for several minutes. Temporarily overwhelmed by their injuries, they collectively collapse on the ground, and stay that way for several quiet moments. Where other films would play this for laughs or fill the silence with awkward dialogue, Merantau lets the scene play out just long enough for the characters (and the audience) to get their breath back before the fight begins again in earnest. It's choices like these that makes Merantau a welcome and unique addition to the action genre. It's also ridiculously fun to watch.
Shot and set in Indonesia, Merantau follows our protagonist Yuda, a country boy who is about to set out into the world as part of a rite of passage known in his small mountain community as Merantau.

Hey, did someone order an "Ong Bak"? I mean, I think that's what they delivered- looks like a young man leaves his country home, goes to the big city, steps in to stop injustice using an elbow-heavy martial arts? I don't know, though, this isn't Tony Jaa, it's some other guy, and he doesn't have the same acrobatic skill as Jaa. On the other hand, some of these shots look pretty good...and the score works really well...man, these shots, and that editing...holy Shit, is that the bad guy?
This was pretty much my reaction throughout the first twenty or so minutes of "Merantau", an Indonesian film that I wasn't actually that thrilled to receive in my Nyaff packet. I had sort of pegged it as an "Ong Bak" clone, and the first five minutes- the protagonist, Yuda (Iko Uwais), doing alone-style martial arts in front of a...

Just as bad business and worse storytelling conspire to rob us of the physical glory that is Tony Jaa, in steps Indonesia's Iko Uwais, bringing the martial art of silat to the big screen in a big way with Merantau.
Yuda (Uwais) leaves his small farming village on "merantau," a rite of passage meant to demonstrate a young man's independence from his family. However, life is tough once he arrives in Jakarta, and tougher still once he steps in to help Astri (Sisca Jessica) as she's bullied by first her boss, then the head of a European human trafficking ring (Mads Koudal).

While talking with director David Noel Bourke briefly today about his latest production "No Right Turn," this horror enthusiast found out that "No Right Turn," which has been given a European premiere last weekend, is working towards wider, possibly global distribution. A North American release is hopefully the goal, but horror/thriller movie fans might have to wait a little longer as this film, which while entertaining and slightly surreal in the trailer, needs North American distributors. Have a first look at "No Right Turn," below...

It’s becoming something of a regular refrain around here now: another new behind the scenes reel from Indonesian martial arts film Merantau gives yet another reason to be impressed. The eighth installment of these behind the scenes reels features a fresh wave of production, this batch set in the actual streets and alleys of Jakarta. Yes, director Gareth Evans continues to impress with the way he’s balancing story and action and, yes, star Iko Uwais continues to show that he’s got the goods as a fighter but we knew all of that already. What impresses here are some very complex and effective camera rigs that show Evans has definitely got a few visual tricks up his sleeve. Very nice.

The more I see of Gareth Evans’ upcoming Indonesian martial arts flick Merantau the more impressed I am. He’s locked on to a discipline seldom seen on screen - silat - found a compelling master of the form - Iko Uwais - and then built a solid cast and story around his stars’ skills. The film shows a nice balance of action and drama, character and ass-whuppin, and what we’ve seen of the cinematography and choreography so far has been impressive. Evans and co have been releasing regular behind the scenes reels from the film so far and while previous entries have showcased the performers, the choreography, camera tests and fight sequences with his latest entry Evans has opted to take a quieter route, taking us behind the scenes of the Sumatran leg of the production, when most of the dramatic roots of the film are laid down...

They’re not giving away the big stuff but what they are showing is looking very impressive.

We’ve been tracking the progress of Gareth Evans’ Indonesian martial arts flick Merantau for a good while now, anxious for a good look at the silat martial arts being used in the picture and very seldom seen on screen. Well, Evans has just passed along the latest behind the scenes reel from the film, this fifth installment in the series being the first put together since principal photography began which means this is our first chance to see sets and some raw footage. It’s been a few weeks since we last heard from director Gareth Evans and his Indonesian martial arts film Merantau but it’s hard to blame him, really, as he’s been buried deep in active production on the film with principal photography new entering its fourth week. Through the pre-production process Evans was posting regular weekly behind the scenes reels from the film - early efforts covered action choreography, camera and stunt tests and more - and this week, despite being busy with production, he found the time to put together another five minute behind the scenes reel, this one dedicated to introducing us to the film’s main characters and the actors portraying them. And not only does this give us a chance to understand what he’s going for in terms of the drama but most of the interviews were shot in the training room which...
