Nobody was expecting it, but it’s true: two-time Oscar nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal – who earned a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her performance in the 2010 film Crazy Heart and a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination for writing her 2021 feature directorial debut The Lost Daughter – is writing and directing a film called The Bride!, a new take on the concept of the 1935 classic The Bride of Frankenstein (watch it Here). The Bride! is currently making its way through production and unveiling images that are intriguing, even if there are jarring elements to them. So we thought this was a good time to put together a list of Everything We Know About The Bride!
Studio And Release Date
The Bride! is not set up at Universal Pictures, so this isn’t an official remake of The Bride of Frankenstein, it’s a play on the same concepts found in Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein that inspired the 1935 film.

Several months ago, word leaked out that Maggie Gyllenhaal was set to write and direct a film called The Bride!, a new take on the concept of the 1935 classic The Bride of Frankenstein (watch it Here). Once thought to be set up at the Netflix streaming service, this one is actually happening at Warner Bros., and the studio has set the film for a theatrical release, IMAX screens included, on October 3, 2025. Gyllenhaal has assembled a strong cast for the film that includes Penelope Cruz, Annette Bening, Peter Sarsgaard, Julianne Hough, John Magaro, and Jeannie Berlin, with Jessie Buckley as The Bride and Christian Bale as Frankenstein’s Monster. Official images of the Bride and the Monster have been released before; in fact, those are what can be seen above this paragraph. But now Buckley and Bale have been spotted on set, in costume, and a “spy pic” image of them...

Hollywood still has a bit of work to do before the 2024 Oscars are actually within grasp, but the Academy and telecast partner ABC just cleared a few of the annual hurdles to ensure a live show — setting a producing team, a returning director and a first-time showrunner.
Live TV and go-to Las Vegas residency producer Raj Kapoor, who’s worked on the Academy Awards telecast for the last seven years, has been named showrunner and executive producer for the first time. He assumes the role after collecting a sprawling list of TV credits, including work on the Grammys, the Emmys and quite a few Disney-branded live celebrations.
Joining Kapoor as a first-time Oscar executive producer is Katy Mullan, who comes from live TV production house Mullan Done + Dusted. The British outfit has done everything from producing the Olympics to virtual specials in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. Together,...

Former Every Time I Die singer Keith Buckley’s new band Many Eyes have unveiled their debut single, “Revelation,” and it’s an absolute crusher of a track.
The tune features Buckley in full scream mode during the verses, with a clean-sung chorus. Musically, Buckley’s new bandmates — brothers Nick and Charlie Bellmore — deliver a powerhouse instrumental.
“‘Revelation’ is about recognizing evil and having the courage, the wisdom and the faith to face it directly,” Buckley said in a press release. “I hope anyone who listens to this song feels empowered to confront injustice, no matter what form it takes in their lives.”
It’s all systems go for Buckley and company right out of the gates. A full album is on the way, as is a recently announced 2024 US tour with Thursday and Rival Schools.

Greek writer-director Christos Nikou wanted to explore the modern concept of love when he approached his English-language debut Fingernails starring Jessie Buckley, Riz Ahmed and Luke Wilson. Speaking at Deadline’s Contenders London event, the Apples director admitted that the concept of dating apps and using algorithms to find love was an idea that intrigued him.
“I was always trying to understand what love is and why we are so obsessed with love and why we’re looking for love,” said Nikou. “But, also, I think that right now a lot of people, and especially from the younger generation, are looking at love in a different way. I mean, imagine that they are letting an algorithm decide about them and they are using their finger to swipe right or left in order to find the perfect match that is compatible for them. Apple Original Films is back with another original film after Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon. Fingernails is a sci-fi romance that explores the idea of love in the digital age, starring Jessie Buckley, Jeremy Allen White, and Riz Ahmed. The film is directed by Christos Nikou, who made his English-language debut with this project.
Fingernails is set in a world where scientists have developed a test that can prove whether two people are in love or not. The test involves pulling out a fingernail from each person and scanning it with a machine that measures their happiness. Anna (Buckley) is a woman who works at an institute that conducts this test on couples who are desperate to find out the truth about their relationship. She secretly embarks on a new assignment with Amir (Ahmed), her co-worker and love interest, who is also in a relationship with Natasha (Murphy). Meanwhile,...

“Fingernails” presents a world where true love can be determined by the torn-out fingernails of a potential couple. It’s just the latest film to to posit (and deconstruct) a scientific approach to love. Christos Nikou’s rom-com/body horror flick stars Jessie Buckley, Jeremy Allen White and Riz Ahmed. Anna (Buckley) is a new employee at a romance institution, which uses all kinds of science to quantify and determine true love.
While she is seemingly in a happy relationship with Ryan (White), she develops an interest in a coworker (Ahmed). Can Anna be in love with two people at the same time? Not according to the science touted by the Romance Institute. Oh, and Armi has a girlfriend as well (Annie Murphy).
The trailer shows off the various facets of a romance institution run by Luke Wilson, who calls the notion of being in love with two people “a biological impossibility.

Editor’s Note: This review originally published during the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. Sony Pictures Classics will release “Wicked Little Letters” in U.S. theaters on March 29, 2024.
Before social media, you had to troll people the old-fashioned way: poison-pen letters. The new period comedy “Wicked Little Letters” follows just one such incident, chronicling one of the most notorious cases of trolling in British history. The film, directed by Thea Sharrock, is a playfully raunchy story about women behaving badly to break out of their conservative feminine roles.
Based on true events, “Wicked Little Letters” tells the story of two women who couldn’t be more different and scandal that linked them in 1920s England. Edith Swan (Olivia Colman) is an unmarried woman living with her domineering father Edward (Timothy Spall) and her gentle, meek mother Victoria (Gemma Jones) in a close-knit English village. The Olivier Award-winning West End revival of Cabaret is coming to Broadway: Producers announced that the acclaimed musical will begin previews at the August Wilson Theater in spring 2024.
Not confirmed: Whether the West End production’s original 2021 stars Eddie Redmayne (as the Emcee) or Jessie Buckley (as Sally Bowles) will make the move. Redmayne’s participation, in particular, has been widely speculated, prompted in part by his participation in this year’s Tony Awards tribute to Cabaret composer John Kander and actor Joel Grey, who played the Emcee in the original Broadway production as well as the 1972 movie version.
The West End revival – officially titled Cabaret At The Kit Kat Club – swept the 2022 Olivier Awards with seven wins including Best Musical Revival, Best Actor and Actress in a Musical (Redmayne and Buckley), and Best Director (Rebecca Frecknall). Supporting Actor and Actress in a Musical awards went to Elliot Levey and Liza Sadovy.

Evan Buckley lives!
It was touch and go for a while there, but after his coma fever dreams during 9-1-1 Season 6 Episode 11 that saw Buck desperately trying to figure out how to get home, Buck took a breath, and all was right in the world again.
Oliver Stark does some heavy lifting during this hour, and he pulls off an incredible performance as Buck navigates this surreal world where nothing is as it seems. Stark was nice enough to take some time to jump on a call and answer some of our pressing questions after that emotional hour.
Stark's responses were incredibly candid and kind, from talking about the Buckley parents to his new couch and what to expect from the rest of 9-1-1 Season 6.
It's always a pleasure to speak with the charming actor, and I hope you guys enjoy this one!

Oliver Stark’s Buck may have survived being struck by lightning after the “9-1-1” winter premiere, but the aftermath of the incident will leave the beloved character forever changed.
Monday’s episode of the Fox first responder drama followed as the crew of Station 118 raced to take their friend and colleague to the hospital after facing the high voltage incident during an emergency call. Things looked grim for the fan-favorite firefighter as doctors put him in a medically induced coma to let his body heal from the injuries. The coma gave Buck the opportunity to examine some of his innermost struggles, with a dreamlike adventure that presented him with a version of reality where he never became a firefighter and his older brother Daniel never died.

For more than two decades now, Charlie Kaufman has been examining the tricky wiring of the human mind in an eclectic yet tightly cohesive body of screen work ranging across several lauded screenplays and three more he directed himself. His films are teasing puzzles marked by surreal detours and jarring rips in the fabric of reality. Even when dealing with depression, despair and mortality, Kaufman’s more playful instincts have tended to ameliorate his obsessively cerebral side. But his third feature as writer-director, I’m Thinking of Ending Things, is by far his bleakest, so steeped in suffocating anxiety it should come with a mental health advisory.
