Julie Swedien Johnson is a screenwriter known for writing Lights Out, a dark comedy, and The Missionary, a true story of her grandfather, Reverend Bengt Ivar Anderson, who was a Baptist missionary to the Naga headhunters in India from 1926 to 1950 during British Colonial rule. She has also written Gods and Monsters, a memoir about growing up in recording studios with her legendary father, Bruce Swedien, the 5-time Grammy Award winning recording engineer and producer of the signature recordings of the last century. Known primarily for his work with Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones, he also recorded Oscar Peterson, Duke Ellington, Barbra Streisand, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Cream, Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Harris, Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66, Herbie Hancock, George Benson, The Chi Lites, Art Blakey, Frank Valli & The Four Seasons, Gene Chandler, Jackie Wilson, Muddy Waters, Buddy Miles, Rufus and Chaka Khan, Donna Summer, Edgar Winter, LL Cool J, Ken Nordine, Stan Kenton, and many more. In addition, he recorded the theme music for The Color Purple, Running Scared, The Wiz, Night Shift, Roots, and many others films. Julie lives in the Chicago area and has been married to Loren Johnson for twenty three years.
