Entertaining but emotionally stunted film about a family hunting trip starts out with promising menace but gets bogged down in a thicket of dialogue
“Why do we kill?” “It’s what we do.” That’s the flinty Old Testament register on offer in this backwoods thriller, in which brusque Texan dad Tom (Tom Zembrod) takes his autistic son Donnie (Dash Melrose) out on a hunting trip to get over his mother’s fatal overdose. Also along for the ride is Donnie’s simpering uncle Frank (Paul T Taylor), who is unconvinced by his brother-in-law’s man-up modus operandi. They all have to deal with Tom’s blowhard routine – lecturing Donnie about the perils of bush snakes and refusing to let anyone wear hi-vis – until they stumble on a man bleeding from a stomach wound with a backpack full of banknotes.
Whitetail – a nature-reveals-not-heals kind of film in the Deliverance vein...

Stars: Laurence R. Harvey, Tom Zembrod, Nicholas Vince, Eileen Dietz | Directed by Lawrie Brewster, Andrew Ionides, Brad Watson, Mitch Wilson, Carlos Omar De Leon, Matthan Harris, Dane Keil, Mark Logan and others.
For We Are Many is a film from the Scottish-based Hex Studios, a smorgasbord of demonic horror from thirteen different genre directors that stars some familiar faces from horror movies of the past too. An anthology film, we see a selection of tales about all kinds of demons, in a fun, dark and creepy portmanteau. Lawrie Brewster, Andrew Ionides, Brad Watson, Mitch Wilson, Carlos Omar De Leon, Matthan Harris, Dane Keil, Mark Logan and others direct here, and we see names like Laurence R. Harvey (Human Centipede 2), Tom Zembrod (Knucklebones), Nicholas Vince (Hellraiser) and Eileen Dietz (The Exorcist) among others. It’s a love-letter to horror in the form of demonic tales, and there’s quite a few of them here too.

I thought I’d try to watch a few more new horror movies by the end of 2018 – December is usually just for Christmas movies for me – but The Harrowing sounded interesting from the few things I’ve read about it so I gave it a go.
The first thing I noticed about The Harrowing is that it looks great. I honestly don’t know its budget but I can assure you this would be what most would call a ‘low budget movie’. And it proves that low budget doesn’t mean that your film should look amateur. Here the picture is the highest of quality, the sound is perfect but also, the one thing...

The cast and crew of a low budget horror film is murdered by a psychotic killer who videotapes the murders and fashions them in the same way of a script that some of the crew is working on secretly.
Entertaining combination of behind the scenes spoof, valentine to Friday the 13th and all of the ripoffs that came out shortly afterwards with a dash of Scream thrown in. Fright Flick features spot on humor that sends up what happens on the set of a low budget horror film from the colorful personalities involved, to the sometimes laughable casting decisions, to the fact of how someone can have one job today and being serving another job function the next day. The film's plentiful death sequences wonderfully pay tribute...
