The future of UFC fighting on ESPN+ may be settled in the next few weeks. That’s according to a report from Sports Business Journal, who spoke with the president of the mixed martial arts promotion Dana White in a wide-ranging interview recently.
White said he had a meeting on his schedule with ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro in the next month to begin discussions on whether UFC will extend its relationship with ESPN+ beyond 2025 when the current contract between the two is set to expire. Pitaro and White will be joined by Mark Shapiro, CEO of Endeavor Group Holdings, which owns UFC.

Turner Classic Movies is a mainstay in the viewing lineup of most fans of all-time great cinema. The channel is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, and even though it’s widely beloved, no segment of the company is truly safe from the savings-oriented gaze of CEO David Zaslav, no matter the artistic value.
Reports over the past week indicate a wave of executive layoffs has struck TCM as part of a wider round of firings at the Wbd TV division. General manager of the network Pola Chagnon is leaving after more than 25 years at the company, and a host of other executives including TCM Enterprises VP Genevieve McGillicuddy, president of marketing and creative Dexter Fedor, and more were shown the door.

Taylor Sheridan is calling out HBO for underestimating the appeal of the neo-Western genre.
The “Yellowstone” creator shared in a wide-ranging The Hollywood Reporter cover story that HBO bungled the initial deal for the mega-hit series before it landed at Paramount Network. Sheridan pitched “Yellowstone” as “‘The Godfather’ in Montana,” and the script, despite originally being written as a film, was in series development at HBO under then-programming president Michael Lombardo.
Despite Sheridan pitching the idea of Kevin Costner playing patriarch John Dutton, the network “didn’t see it” and wanted Robert Redford.
“They said, ‘If you can get us Robert Redford, we’ll greenlight the pilot,'” Sheridan recalled. “I drive to Sundance and spend the day with [Redford] and he agrees to play John Dutton. I call the senior vice president in charge of production and say, ‘I got him!’ ‘You got who?’ ‘Robert Redford.’ ‘What?!‘ ‘You said if I got Robert Redford,...

The future of sport for fans and advertisers alike lies in streaming, according to Marie Donoghue, VP Global Sports Video at Amazon, as she offered a jaw-dropping statistic to support her case at a Cannes Lions event charting the evolution of live sports viewing.
“By 2026, 136 million fans will be streaming sports,” she quoted from New Marketer. “It’s the present and it’s the future. It’s a great opportunity to bring great content, convenience and value to fans, and for advertisers to interact and engage.
“Viewers are younger, more affluent and spend a lot more time with the game. A lot of our audience wasn’t even watching NFL on other services.”

Editor’s note: Part 1 of two-part series about the writers strike crossing the 50-day mark.
The Writers Guild of America has been on strike for 50 days now. For the past eight weeks, writers have taken to picket lines across the country in their fight for a fair contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
In the days after the strike commenced, writers were adamant they were in it for the long haul. Although the crowds have ebbed and flowed in the weeks since, leadership insists that the resolve has remained strong.
“It’s scary to walk away from the job. It’s painful to have to inflict some of the damage on those with whom we work and the city we work in,” WGA Negotiating Committee co-chair Chris Keyser told Deadline. “The dedication, the fervency, the insistence on the part of every writer that this is a...
