His hobby was stamp-collecting. He was an expert on stamps issued by Great Britain during WWI. His expertise gained him membership in the Royal Philatelic Society.
After the war, he studied at the Yale School of Drama.
He served in the Army in WWII, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He earned a Bronze Star for valor, and a Purple Heart after being wounded in a mortar attack.
He began acting in community theater as a child, and became assistant director when he was 13. In high school, he produced, directed, and acted in "Children's Playhouse", a weekly radio show broadcast on WKBO (Harrisburg, PA).
Theater director and producer. He was also a play reader for Paramount Pictures, and a story editor for the CBS drama series Studio One (1948).
