Greenwich Entertainment has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to the documentary feature Kenny Scharf: When Worlds Collide. The film is slated to debut in theaters and on digital platforms across the country on April 23.
The docu, which marks the directorial debut feature from Max Basch and Malia Scharf, made its world premiere last year at SXSW. Made over 11 years, the docu takes a look at the life of artist Kenny Scharf and features interviews and rare archival footage with Scharf, Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Ed Ruscha, Dennis Hopper, Yoko Ono, Kaws, Marilyn Minter, and Jeffrey Deitch.
When Scharf arrived in New York City in the early 1980s, he quickly befriended Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. This trio changed the face of the art world with their works. While Basquiat and Haring both died tragically young, Scharf lived through cataclysmic shifts in New York City and the art world.

Sometimes I forget Andrew Dominik (Killing Them Softly, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) not only directs, but writes his films and now he's preparing to write a script for someone else and it's hardly one you'd expect. Deadline is reporting Dominik will pen the screenplay for a 3D remake of the 1982 Jet Li starrer The Shaolin Temple, with Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6) set to direct. The film tells the story of a slave worker who escapes from the cruel retainers of the emperor of the Tang dynasty. He seeks asylum at the Shaolin Temple and enters the monkhood and trains with the monks. His motivation, however, is far from saintly having promised to use the skill he learns for defense only, he seeks revenge on the man that murdered his father. When the project was announced back in 2014, Perfect Storm Entertainment, CEO Troy Craig Poon,...

The Universal folks are keeping their enemies close and their family members in-house. While Justin Lin's next gig will be revving up "Bourne 5" for release next year, he hasn't stopped adding projects to his potential slate. Indeed, over the past year or so, Lin's name has become linked with no shortage of projects of various size and scope, but none of them are quite like this. The kung fu flick follows a lowly slave worker, who trains with shaolin monks, and then uses his skills to kill the emperor of the Tang dynasty who killed this father (and also brutally took over the throne). The remake will be massive, with promises of 3D, a $100 million plus budget and “an A+ list Hollywood writer to tackle the story” according to CEO of Lin's Perfect Storm Entertainment, Troy Craig Poon. Last week Justin Lin was hired to direct a sci-fi comedy Subdivision, and already he's ready to branch out in the same genre. The Fast Five director has been selected to helm Hibernation, a new sci-fi thriller. THR has the story and adds that the film is based on an original script written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Will Frank. Neither of the writers have any previous credits. At this time there aren't any plot details available, but the trade says that Lin will also produce through his Perfect Storm Entertainment label, as will Film 360. Speaking about the project with the trade, producer Troy Craig Poon said, "The story is fresh, inventive and one we found immensely compelling." Lin is currently in the middle of directing Fast Six, his fourth film in the long-running racing franchise, but even once he is finished he still has a full slate of upcoming projects.
