As The Seed opens Heather, Diedre and Charlotte arrive at an opulent vacation home in the middle of what is supposed to be the Mojave Desert, (the film was shot in Malta).
There’s going to be a once-in-a-lifetime meteor shower, (where have we heard that before?), and social media personalities Heather and Dierdre think this will be the perfect location for a photoshoot incorporating it. Charlotte who has no social media presence at all just wants to hang out and party with her friends from school. Things become complicated when something falls from the sky and lands in their pool. Not a meteorite, but something alive.
Saying the leads are unlikable would be an understatement. Heather is the kind of famous for being born rich celebrity that makes it...

If you’re looking for a family-friendly alien invasion movie like E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, you will not find it here. The new out of this world horror comedy, The Seed, is not kid-friendly, but it does feature an incredibly cute alien who has a devious plan for world domination. The Seed is produced by Shudder, Camelot Films and Hardman Pictures, in association with Lipsync Productions, Amp International, The Malta Film Commission and Ingenious Media. The film is written and directed by British filmmaker Sam Walker in his feature film debut.
The Seed stars Lucy Martin (Vikings) as Diedre, Sophie Vavasseur (Resident Evil: Apocapylse) as Heather, and Chelsea Edge (I Hate Suzie) as Charlotte, a group of friends who have bonded over their social media channels. They decide to go to Heather’s family home in the Mojave Desert for a girls’ getaway and to film the upcoming meteor...

Childhood friends Charlotte (Chelsea Edge), Heather (Sophie Vavasseur), and Deidre (Lucy Martin) never get to hang out anymore. Adulthood has a tendency of keeping once-inseparable cliques apart, but they’re hoping a once-in-a-lifetime meteor shower is just the excuse to finally get them together again. What better reason is there for Heather to use her father’s isolated modern mansion in the middle of nowhere? She can cajole Charlotte’s analog and low-maintenance “nerd” away from her 9-to-5 grind, as well as Deidre’s ultra-popular social-media influencer from her hectically vapid life by promising peace and quiet to the former and scenic livestream views to the latter. Maybe they’ll even have fun breaking from their usual routines to remember who they were all those years ago.
It’s a solid entry point into writer-director Sam Walker’s feature debut The Seed because it sets up conflict rooted in their pasts.

The BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Scotland’s Stv are joining forces to broadcast a short film that attempts to burnish the credentials of British free-to-air television at a time when U.S. media giants such as Netflix and Apple are becoming increasingly influential.
The five broadcasters are clearing their schedules at 8.58 Pm Wednesday to show the two-minute film Our Stories, which was created by Uncommon Creative Studio and directed by Sam Walker through Pulse Films. It is the first time they have collaborated on such an endeavor.
Emboldened by the role they have played during the coronavirus pandemic and increasingly keen to underline their value when viewers are turning to streamers, the broadcasters hope that the campaign demonstrates the power of TV and its ability to bring people together. They said it also represents a statement on their contribution to the UK creative economy.

Why Watch? With the announcement of the second wave of Fantastic Fest movies, it seems fitting to watch something bizarre. Our very own Brian Kelley hipped me to this experimental short from Sam Walker where a chorus line of children dressed in duck costumes morphs into something much, much more sinister. The atonal score does a lot of the creepy heavy lifting, but the fairy-terrifying smile of a princess and the giant-headed hunter to the rest. Yes, this is weird as hell. Gloriously, gloriously weird as hell. What will it cost you? Only 7 minutes. Skip work. Watch more short films.

Misha B has given her support to the Girls Aloud reunion. The X Factor contestant suggested to Sam Walker and Lorna Bancroft on Real Radio North West Breakfast that the five-piece were better than the sum of their parts. "I think it's a good thing," she said. "Cheryl [Cole] did a great job on her own, but for me, Girls Aloud; they're amazing." On rumours of a Spice Girls comeback at the Olympics, Misha B said: "I am one of the biggest (more)...

MTV recently renewed "Teen Wolf" for a second season -- a good sign for the network's cautious endeavors into scripted television. While "Skins," an Americanized version of the controversial UK show, failed to maintain viewership, "Teen Wolf" has generated considerable increasing buzz. On Tuesday, the reality-heavy network debuts its latest scripted offering, "Awkward," at 11 p.m.
While the later hour does allow for a more frank look at teen sexuality, "Awkward" succeeds in being honest without being gratuitous, which may have been the downfall of "Skins." Within the first few minutes of the show, our lead character, Jenna, loses her virginity in a summer camp supply closet. It's not exactly the Pacey-and-Joey perfect moment, which is instantly refreshing and sets the tone for the show. Yes - it's awkward.
"We're not racy to be racy," Ashley Rickards told Zap2it when she stopped by our offices to discuss the show.

Stephen Palgon’s "Fantasyland," a documentary about fantasy sports players based on the book by Sam Walker, premieres Friday on SnagFilms.com.
"Fantasyland" follows Jed Latkin, an amateur fantasy baseball fan who earns the chance to compete in an expert league called Tout Wars during the 2008 baseball season.
Financed and produced by James D. Stern's Endgame Entertainment, the film was produced with McG's Wonderland Sound & Vision and John Limotte and Doug Bernheim's Sound Pictures.
SnagFilms will feature the film on its flagship site and throughout its distribution network and will introduce fantasy-centered content across all platforms.
"'Fantasyland' has a built-in audience of 30 million fantasy sports players, other fantasy and sports enthusiasts as well as people intrigued by the exciting, humorous, sometimes scary and surprising lengths to which otherwise normal people will go just to win a mere contest of pride," Stern said.
