Red Rooms.A little irony from the land of Alanis Morissette: Red Rooms (2023)—a movie named for and concerning a series of apocryphal dark-web sites trafficking in unsimulated snuff videos—is currently unavailable for commercial streaming in the United States. This despite the fact that Pascal Plante’s Montreal-set thriller, which is up for six Canadian Screen Awards on May 30, is almost perfectly calibrated for American—which is to say global—sensibilities, to the point that it suggests a prestige streaming procedural shrunken down to feature length and fed through Google Translate. The only thing separating Juliette Gariépy’s statuesque, possibly sociopathic amateur hacker Kelly-Anne from her Scandinavian counterparts is the lack of a dragon tattoo. This is not a put-down, nor even a backhanded compliment; in a year when the CSAs will likely be swept by Blackberry (2023), a revision of The Social Network (2010) by a group of resourceful Toronto pranksters,...

The future is not looking bright for Raven’s Home, which has officially been cancelled by Disney Channel after six seasons, TVLine has confirmed.
A continuation of That’s So Raven, which aired on Disney Channel from 2003 to 2007, Raven’s Home reunited viewers with the sitcom’s titular psychic (played by Raven-Symoné), who was now the mother of twins — including a son Booker (Issac Ryan Brown), who has clairvoyant powers of his own. Set in Chicago for its first four seasons, Raven’s Home ultimately relocated back to San Francisco (aka the original setting of That’s So Raven) for the remainder of its run.

Exclusive: Raven-Symoné is extending her relationship with Disney, which she has called home for many years, with a new multi-year overall deal at Disney Branded Television. Under the pact, she will produce, direct, and develop projects across linear and streaming, with a focus on multi-cam comedies.
First off, she will executive produce and direct sitcom Alice in the Palace, which has received a pilot order. It is an Alice-centered spinoff from Raven-Symoné’s Disney Channel multi-camera comedy series Raven’s Home, which will not return for a seventh season. Its most recent Season 6 concluded its run in September 2023.
The deal with Raven-Symoné, which also includes continued acting and hosting opportunities, and the order for Alice in the Palace fits into Disney Branded Television’s strategy of building a new Disney Channel lineup of multi-camera sitcoms. In doing that, the company’s executive team has been leaning into classic Disney Channel IP.

Ah, the double feature. Old Hollywood studios devised it as a way to run (B) movies too short or cheap to merit full price, but there's something undeniably fun about watching two movies back to back. 20 years later, and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” hasn’t been remotely forgotten. Michel Gondry’s science fiction romance has, if anything, enjoyed renewed attention in 2024, thanks to the release of musician Ariana Grande’s “Eternal Sunshine” album. Grande, famously a fan of the film’s leading man Jim Carrey, referenced the film both in the album’s title song, and a music video that fully recreated the mind-wiping film’s romantic storyline for the single “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait For Your Love)”. The tributes came just weeks before the film’s March 19 anniversary, and hopefully should lead to one of the 21st-century’s greatest romance films getting even more fans.

In the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, estranged lovers Joel and Clementine, played by Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet, undergo an experimental treatment to remove memories of each other from their brains. A wrinkle in the procedure results in Joel’s realization that erasing his pain also means forgetting the joy and happiness he shared with her.
Ariana Grande’s Eternal Sunshine takes the first part of that narrative as its inspiration, perhaps not recognizing that it’s the second bit that makes Michel Gondry’s 2014 film, the title of which was inspired by Alexander Pope’s poem “Eloisa to Abelard,” such a devastating cautionary tale. “Now I’m in my head, wonderin’ how it ends…I try to wipe my mind just so I feel less insane,” Grande sings on the title track, directly invoking the film’s plot but only vaguely acknowledging that some memories are irreversible.

Ariana Grande is an influential figure in the music industry, and her ability to sing across four octaves of vocal range sets her apart from the rest of her peers. The pop star has released seven albums in her career, with her latest set to be released on March 8th, 2024, i.e., today. Grande often takes inspiration from her life, experiences, and pop culture. Her new album, Eternal Sunshine, is no different in this regard.
Interestingly, the name of Ariana Grande’s new album pays homage to one of Jim Carey’s iconic movies. Over the years, Carey has delivered some memorable films; unsurprisingly, one holds a special place in the Dangerous Woman singer’s heart.

Martin Scorsese will soon be seen on the big screen, and he won’t be playing himself.
The master director, who is being feted with Berlin Film Festival’s honorary Golden Bear on Tuesday night, has a small but powerful role playing an elderly sage who influences Dante Alighieri while he is writing “The Divine Comedy” in Julian Schnabel’s upcoming crime mystery “In the Hands of Dante.”
Though Scorsese has cameoed in many of his movies and occasionally performed in films by other directors – he played Vincent van Gogh in a segment of Akira Kurosawa’s 1990 film “Dreams” and also performed as voice talent as the loan shark pufferfish in “Shark Tale” – this role is likely to be among his meatiest.
“He is extraordinary in the film,” Schnabel tells Variety, calling Scorsese’s part “a brilliant, important role” and adding: “You can’t take your eyes off him.”

English filmmaker Matthew Vaughn returns to the big screen with another spy action film, Argylle. Known for his distinctive madness and heightened spy reality, as seen in his Kingsman film series, Argylle delivers a perfect blend of action, comedy, and a lot of espionage. Vaughn incorporates little pieces of his life in the movie, with Alfie the Cat being his real-life wife’s (Claudia Schiffer) cat and etching his daughter’s name, Clementine, on a gun in Director Ritter’s office. Argylle follows Elly Conway, a reclusive espionage novel author, who’s suddenly drawn into a similar real-life world of espionage. Conway soon realizes...

Exclusive: Matthew Vaughn reveals that last year he received what he terms “flattering” offers to sell Marv Films, the production company behind productions that include the Kick-Ass and Kingsman franchises and the Apple Original Films romance spy-thriller Argylle. That film is having its world premiere today in London, ahead of its February 2 U.S. theatrical release through Universal.
Marv is owned and controlled by Vaughn and Claudia Schiffer, his wife of 23 years. At the time, he says, “everyone was buying everything, and it was all very flattering and tempting.”
Vaughn admits he that nearly entered into a deal to sell, but his biggest mentor — whom he won’t name — cautioned him, saying, ”There’s no money in the world which would make it worthwhile for you having a boss.”
Vaughn shot back, “What do you mean?” And his friend went, ”Trust me, it will be a f*cking disaster.”

Oh my, Scalper was quite a ride for me! Honestly, you know those scenes with the killers wearing funny gory masks and wigs? They were a bit more funny than scary if you ask me. The characters and plot didn’t fully grab my attention, but guess what? The supernatural stuff did spice things up a bit. Now, let’s talk about this horror flick. There’s this crazy serial killer scalping victims, and the detectives are all in a frenzy to catch this sadistic murderer. They even bring in Clementine Carter, a psychic with visions, to help unravel the killer’s identity. Things get even crazier when they discover similar murders have taken place in the past, supposedly by a dead guy named Andrew Lubitz. That’s why it was a bit interesting to see who did the murder if not Andrew Lubitz. Talk about a plot twist! Clementine,...

For most of the runtime of Pascal Plante’s Red Rooms, we are unsure about what exactly Kelly-Anne, our protagonist, is up to, let alone the reason behind her activities. Yet, the film is incredibly engaging from the opening minute itself. In fact, the ambiguity about the central character, which is certainly a deliberate creative choice, works in the film’s favor. Even when Red Rooms ends, you are unsure about the true nature of Kelly-Anne, which ensures you will be spending so many hours on Reddit. I’m going to take a swing at simplifying things and, hopefully, helping you understand what’s really going on in Red Rooms.
Spoilers Ahead
Plot Synopsis: What Happens In The Movie?
In the still of the night, Kelly-Anne wakes up in a back alley. After a walk in the streets of Montreal, she ends up at the courthouse, awaiting a murder trial to begin.

All interpersonal relationships are complicated. But there’s just something classically (even banally) fraught in the complex negotiation of emotion between Male and Female, a knotty 50-foot Route 66 twine ball full of interwoven power dynamics, sexual dysfunction and societal expectation. The heat fractals thrown off by this ceaseless Xx/Xy friction have propelled 10,000 of human civilization and countless works of art and storytelling—from Bible stories to sexy Netflix originals like Fair Play and May December. Or, for that matter, the three projects in this month’s Fiscal Spotlight.

Memories can be comforting. They can be entertaining, or inspiring, or even peaceful. But they can also be heartbreaking. Like many of the films constructed from the cerebral and somber works of Charlie Kaufman, the subject of today’s episode is a sleepy journey through the mind of ordinary people dealing with ordinary things but seen through an extraordinary lens. Whether it’s identity crisis, existentialism, love, belonging, or heartbreak- Kaufman’s writing perfectly captures something inside of us with each and every story. And sometimes when I’m sitting on the couch on a rainy day and looking for something to put me in a lazy, but reflective mood- I turn to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

I shouldn’t be the one to tell you about this book: I’m the wrong gender, the wrong orientation, the wrong nationality, the wrong generation. So don’t trust me.
Blue Is the Warmest Color is a graphic novel by Julie Maroh – that’s what the edition I read says; I see indications that the author goes by Jul Maroh now and is transgender and nonbinary, which adds another wrinkle to the story. But this presents itself as fiction, even if, like anyone’s first big story in public, we suspect there are autobiographical elements in the mix.
Maroh is French; so is her cast. I found the story to be in a older mode than I expected: a frame story, coming out amid self-loathing, the clear tragedy of older gay/lesbian stories. It wasn’t nearly as 21st century as I was hoping from a book published in...

Plot: The fashion celebrity couple and influencers, Carl and Yaya, are invited on a luxury yacht cruise exclusively for the top 0.9 in the wealth hierarchy. Onboard they will meet some interesting characters: Dimitry, the Russian oligarch and his wife Vera, the elderly British couple Clementine and Winston the arms dealer, and the lonely tech billionaire, Jarmo. At the helm of the crew and yacht is the rather unbalanced Captain Smith. Becoming a movie star is no small feat, but it’s still a much easier task than getting your kids to think you’re cool. That’s something Kate Winslet seems to understand, as she often speaks about how her three children have very little interest in watching her new films.
But the actress will take the wins wherever she can get them. In a new interview with People, Winslet said that she was pleasantly surprised by how much her two kids enjoy one of her older films, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.”
“Mia and Joe love ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.’ Love [it], and love the soundtrack,” Winslet said. “So regularly I’ll hear from someone’s bedroom, Beck blasting. I’ll be like ‘That’s ‘Eternal Sunshine.’ So that’s kind of amazing.”

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind felt like an immediate cult favorite when it was released in 2004, with fans latching on to the unique structure, meshing of genres and instantly memorable screenplay. Now it seems it has found another generation, as star Kate Winslet says her own kids can quote Eternal Sunshine better than she can.
In a recent interview with People, Kate Winslet said, “That generation, there are specific lines of dialogue that they latch onto. My kids and their friends will quote back to me. They’ll be like, ‘Do you know who said that?’ And I’ll say, ‘No. Who said that?’ And they’ll be, ‘You did, Mom, as Clementine in Eternal Sunshine!’ I’m like, ‘Oh my God, that amazing line.’ So they are kind of clinging onto these things that’s really fun and certainly unexpected.”
Kate Winslet’s kids are also big fans of the Eternal Sunshine soundtrack.

If you set out to combine the worst parts of Hallmark holiday movies with the worst parts of frenetic ‘90s rom-coms, you’d probably wind up with something a lot like “About Fate.” The women are nuts, the men are clueless and the production is so cheap you could pass the time spotting every mistake no one bothered to fix.
Maybe a movie that has so little ambition doesn’t deserve such a harsh summation. But we have, for the most part, moved beyond the most enervating chick-flick stereotypes. So it’s more than a little dispiriting to see Margot (Emma Roberts) lose her mind when her boyfriend Kip suggests they get dinner at Bennigan’s.
For reasons that make sense only to screenwriter Tiffany Paulsen — who also wrote the Roberts vehicles “Nancy Drew” and “Holidate” — Margot is fixated on the idea that Kip must be proposing. They’ve only been dating for three months,...

This article contains spoilers for Westworld season 4 episode 8.
For as secretive as Westworld can be about its many twists and turns, sometimes the show just comes right out and tells you its ultimate ending. As it did many times for the conclusion of Westworld season 4.
Ever since midway through its third season, Westworld has been surprisingly open and upfront about the fact that the end is quickly coming for the human species. In season 3, the supercomputer Rehoboam was built specifically to keep humanity in line, control their violent impulses, and delay the inevitable apocalypse indefinitely.
Of course, human beings tend to not want to be told what to do. Caleb (Aaron Paul) destroyed Rehoboam, with Maeve’s help (Thandiwe Newton), and freed humanity to decide its own fate. Still, even after Caleb and Maeve’s heroics, Westworld never shied away from the fact that that fate would be pretty bleak.

This article contains spoilers for Westworld season 4.
"Westworld" is not an easy show to love. Every season, the series slowly unravels big mysteries and forces us to think differently about narratives, only to completely drop the ball in the finale. The season 1 finale was probably the best of the series, wrapping up the complex storylines and giving a semi-satisfying conclusion to the main character arcs. Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) finally killed her maker, Dr. Ford (Anthony Hopkins.) Maeve (Thandiwe Newton) escaped the park and was on her way to find her host daughter. William (Ed Harris) had found the perfect game at last — one where the stakes were as high for him as they had been for everyone else. Unfortunately, every finale since has been kind of a letdown, as the mystery box storytelling sets viewers up with unrealistic expectations of their own perfect ending.

Westworld Season 4 — and possibly the series? — concluded on Sunday night with “Que Sera, Sera,” a finale that pit Hale, Christina, Caleb et al against a world on fire. (The EPs tell our sister site Deadline there is no word on renewal yet.)

In the fourth episode of season 4 of "Westworld," the various story threads finally came together into a cohesive narrative, and last week's fifth episode, "Zhuangzi," dealt with the fallout of that collision of character arcs, following a number of hosts in Hale's (Tessa Thompson) "perfect world" as they begin to realize that their lives are not all they seem.

Masterpiece/PBS and Maven Screen Media are developing a five-part series based on the public and private life of Clementine Churchill, the wife of the late prime minister Winston Churchill, alongside David Thomspon and Sayoko Teitelbaum’s Origin Pictures.
Emmy-nominated “Boardwalk Empire” writer Margaret Nagle will pen the script for the series (working title: “Mrs. Churchill”) and executive produce along with Thompson, Teitelbaum and Maven co-founders Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler, as well as Susanne Simpson for Masterpiece.
The show centers on the “untold story of a fiercely Independent and very modern heroine who risked everything to save her country and the world from fascism—and her husband from himself.” While several dramatized narratives have focused on Winston’s story, the series aims to highlight Clementine’s achievements.
“Winston has said that the Second World War would have been impossible without Clementine, and yet she has not been given the credit she deserves.
