If Chris Evans hated one thing about his role as Captain America, it was the time he spent making public appearances for the promotions. Evans shared that his anxiety made him a less-than-ideal candidate for such appearances. He mostly avoided appearing in shows where he had to perform in front of an audience, which meant he was one of the few MCU lead stars not to host an SNL episode.

His co-star Scarlett Johansson has found herself in the SNL Five-Timers Club, hosting the show for a total of six times. However, he has company among the Og Avengers as Mark Ruffalo also turned down a hosting gig because he was scared.

Being satirized on Saturday Night Live is a right of passage for newsmakers and institutions, and many of them consider the attention well worth having the joke on them.
Ok, maybe not Sen. Katie Britt.
But for the people at NPR who produce Tiny Desk Concerts, SNL‘s March 30th episode—which featured a sketch parodying their now venerable and suitably idiosyncratic internet series—was validation worthy of celebration.
And in perfectly quirky Tiny Desk fashion, they are celebrating it by displaying a cue card from the SNL sketch as part of their familiar overstuffed desk “set.”
“I thought it was great,” says Bobby Carter, the host and producer of the signature NPR series. “It was super flattering. When SNL does anything, whether they’re making fun of you or not, it’s a form of flattery.”
Well, let’s consider what SNL did with “Tiny Desk” in the sketch.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) responded to X owner Elon Musk‘s post on the social media platform, claiming, “The Dem Party goal is to import voters.”
Ocasio Cortez replied with a simple response, “You’re literally an immigrant.”

Musk was born in Pretoria, South Africa, and immigrated to the United States after completing his high school education.
For months, Musk along with Republican members of Congress have criticized President Joe Biden for his immigration policies, calling for stricter border control. Musk also shared an article from the Daily Caller, founded by former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, that claimed the White House was “handing out green cards” to undocumented immigrants.
In early March, Sen. Katie Britt (R-Alabama) addressed Biden’s immigration policies in her widely mocked response to the president’s State of the Union address.

It was just three weeks ago that viewers demanded that Saturday Night Live satirize Alabama Senator Kate Britt’s response to the State of the Union. The show happily complied, casting Scarlett Johansson to play a pitch-perfect Britt, an in the process delivering one of the largest audiences the show has seen all season.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour makes its streaming debut on Disney+ Thursday, and, at first, it won’t quite measure up to the stadium experience.
In May 2023, my five closest friends and I attended Swift’s show at MetLife Stadium — and it wasn’t just a concert. For a group of single twenty-something women, it was, in many ways, our wedding, our bachelorette party and maybe even our own funeral! What I mean is, it was a ritualistic occasion — a holy sacrament.

It hasn’t been the best week for Alabama senator Katie Britt, but she says she was “pretty pumped” to see Scarlett Johansson play her on Saturday Night Live.
Appearing on fellow senator Ted Cruz’s podcast “The Verdict,” Britt said of the SNL sketch, “I’ve got to be honest with you, a bingo card for 2024 for Katie Britt. I did not have this on it, right?”
“It certainly didn’t have Scarlett Johansson playing me,” she added. “We were talking to the kids about all of it and they were like, ‘oh my gosh, mom … and I said, you know, look. It could have been worse. You have Black Widow. They bring in someone from the Avengers to play me in the cold open. I’m here for it.”
She’s not wrong. She may have been the butt of the joke, who wouldn’t want to be portrayed by ScarJo?...

Sen. Katie Britt may have been the butt of the joke on Saturday Night Live over the weekend, but the freshman politician from Alabama found it “awesome” that Scarlett Johansson played her in the cold open.

Katie Britt is giving Pete Davidson a run for the money.
As of Wednesday morning, Scarlett Johansson’s pitch perfect Saturday Night Live impression of the Alabama senator has been viewed 5.4 million times on YouTube.
That number makes it one of only four clips this season to break the five million views mark: “Protective Mom 2” (also 5.4 million views), “Washington’s Dream” (7.8 million), and “I’m Just Pete” (12 million).
It’s a feat made all the more impressive by the fact that it’s only been three days since the clip was posted.
The much-talked about sketch appears to be a rising tide that lifts all boats. According to yesterday’s live-plus-same-day ratings numbers, Saturday’s SNL is already the third most viewed of the season–and that’s before delayed viewing data come in over the course of the next week.

On Monday night’s Jon Stewart-led episode of The Daily Show, the host lampooned the notion that Republicans are somehow more American than non-gop voters and then closed with a dead-on impression of Alabama Sen. Katie Britt’s much-mocked rebuttal that followed Joe Biden’s State of the Union address.
Stewart has returned to the anchor chair of Comedy Central’s enduring mock-newscast after leaving in 2015, ending a 16-year stint as its host. He returned in January to host Monday nights until November’s election, and will be executive producer through at least 2025. This week, after opening with some praise for Biden’s feisty address, Stewart pivoted to Britt’s bizarre kitchen table-set rebuttal to the president’s speech from Thursday night. (This week’s Saturday Night Live also kicked off its latest show mocking the Republican response to Biden’s address.)

Sen. Katie Britt (R-Alabama) defended her use of a misleading human trafficking story in her response to President Joe Biden‘s State of the Union address.
In Britt’s response, the senator made a point to criticize Biden’s border and immigration policies. Britt also blamed Biden for the murder of 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley whom Biden said was killed by “an illegal.”
Britt then used the story of a young woman who was trafficked between 2004 and 2008 in Mexico to further attack Biden without mentioning that the case occurred decades earlier. Britt’s story sparked criticism on social media and other human trafficking victims who felt exploited.
Britt also claimed the United States is more dangerous under Biden’s presidency than it was four years ago under Trump.
In a Fox News interview, Britt refused to apologize for misleading the audience.

Alabama senator Katie Britt delivered a widely-panned Republican response to the State of the Union address this past Thursday, and shortly after it was complete, the internet demanded that Saturday Night Live spoof the senator’s response.
Ask and you shall receive.
A-list actress (and Mrs. Colin Jost) Scarlett Johansson surprised the audience by delivering a memorable performance as the beleaguered senator during the March 9 episode’s cold open.
Viewers flocked to the sketch show this past weekend, perhaps in anticipation of a Sen. Britt trolling. Hosted by Dune: Part Two star Josh Brolin with musical guest Ariana Grande, the March 9, 2024 episode of Saturday Night Live averaged 4,670,000 total viewers and 940,000 P18-49 viewers, according to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen. Those numbers will grow substantially as delayed viewing data trickles in over the next week.
Out of the 14 SNL episodes that have aired this season to-date, The March 9 episode comes in at No.

The sex trafficking victim mentioned by Sen. Katie Britt during her State of the Union rebuttal is slamming the politician for misrepresenting her story on one of the biggest platforms in the country.
Britt, who is the junior senator from Alabama, delivered the Republican rebuttal following President Biden‘s State of the Union address last week.
The senator said she visited the Texas-Mexico border and met a woman who had “been sex trafficked by the cartels starting at the age of 12.”
Britt claimed, “She told me not just that she was raped every day, but how many times a day she was raped. The cartels put her on a mattress in a shoebox of a room, and they sent men through that door over and over again for hours and hours on end. Scarlett Johansson impersonated Sen. Katie Britt (R-Alabama) on Saturday Night Live‘s cold open segment.
The segment poked fun at Britt’s odd response to President Joe Biden‘s State of the Union address. Britt’s speech sparked backlash for telling the story of a human trafficking victim whom Britt suggested took place under Biden’s watch – the incident, in fact, occurred under the George W. In the mock State of the Union address, many notable figures were parodied, including Mikey Day as President Biden, Heidi Gardner as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-Georgia), Punkie Johnson as Vice President Kamala Harris and Ego Nwodim as CNN’s Abby Phillips.

On March 7, Republican Senator Katie Britt of Alabama delivered the Republican rebuttal to President Joe Biden's State of the Union address using what many are referring to as a "Fundie Baby Voice."
According to Jess Piper - a "former Evangelical, a Southern Baptist" who ran as a Democrat for a Missouri Senate seat in 2022 - the Fundie Baby Voice describes "the breathy cadence and the soft, child-like high pitch" Britt appeared to be using in her speech.
Piper explained that "it was ingrained in every woman [she] knew from church." Many women used to "prove" that they were able to "be sweet" and "obey," as was expected by the norms of their typical fundamentalist societies. Hence the use of "Fundie," short for fundamentalist, in the voice's name.

With a minute or so to kill before the end of this year’s Oscars, Jimmy Kimmel read out a review of his performance as host of the Oscars.
Kimmel read the social media post from his phone, “Has there ever been a worse host than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars. Emma Stone’s reaction at the Oscars has gone viral after host Jimmy Kimmel cracked a joke at the expense of the nominated film Poor Things.
Throughout the night, clips of the Best Picture nominees played to remind everyone which films were up for the top award.
After Poor Things was presented, Kimmel cracked a joke, saying, “Those were all the parts of Poor Things we’re allowed to show on TV.”
The camera cuts to Stone, seemingly not happy with the joke. After the moment went viral on social media, many interpreted Stone’s lips as calling Kimmel a “prick,” although that is not confirmed.

Jimmy Kimmel left his usual late-night beefs off the Oscar stage tonight, ignoring Trump, Santos, Aaron Rodgers to focus entirely on Hollywood’s big night, with only one not-so-veiled political jab included in a mostly gentle opening segment.
In a very brief pre-taped bit that had Kimmel telling Barbie that he hadn’t eaten in three weeks, the fourth-time Oscar host began his monologue by noting that the ABC broadcast — which started an hour earlier than usual — was already running five minutes behind schedule (true). Not to worry, he added, “We’ll still end very, very late.”
The comedian took an early swipe at flop Madame Web, saying, “This night is full of enormous talent, and untold potential, but so was Madame Web.”
Kimmel also got in an early swipe at the classic Mattel doll that spawned this year’s blockbuster, saying that his wife, until Barbie, was less likely...

For the fourth time in eight years, Jimmy Kimmel was ABC’s choice to preside over the annual Academy Awards ceremony, held on Sunday, March 10. The “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” star previously hosted the broadcasts in 2017, 2018 and 2023, with those years’ Best Picture winners being “Moonlight,” “The Shape of Water” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” respectively. So how did Kimmel do as the 2024 Oscars host, which honored the best films released in 2023, where “Barbenheimer” (“Barbie” and “Oppenheimer”) dominated? Grade his performance in our poll below.

Of course Saturday Night Live went there.
When someone hangs a piñata stuffed with irresistible goodies right in front of your eyes, and an Aaron Judge size baseball bat to smash it with, what else can you do but swing away?
The cold open Saturday night was always going to feature a parody of Katie Britt describing America’s descent into an apocalyptic hellscape from her spotless, lifeless kitchen–because the laughs were there for the picking.
But credit where it’s due: SNL elevated the bit to memorable status by recreating the Alabama Senator’s weird theatrics and creepy demeanor—not to mention every detail of her startlingly expensive- but banal-looking kitchen—and casting an imported major movie star to assume the role, Scarlett Johansson. (Straight from Colin Jost’s kitchen.)

Saturday Night Live hit the mark during the March 9 episode’s cold open with its humorous parody of the Republican response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address given on Thursday. In this sketch, Scarlett Johansson portrayed Alabama Senator Katie Britt, who gave the rebuttal to the president’s address. “My name is Katie Britt and I have the honor of serving the great people of Alabama,” Johansson said. “But tonight I’ll be auditioning for the part of ‘Scary Mom.’ I’ll be performing an original monologue called ‘This Country is Hell.'” She continued saying, “You see, I’m not just a senator, I’m a wife, a mother, and the craziest bitch in the Target parking lot, worried about the future of our children. And this is why I’ve invited you into this strange empty kitchen because Republicans want me to appeal to women voters,...

If coughing blood into a napkin is “movie for dying,” Ariana Grande and Bowen Yang pairing up for a musical mashup is “Saturday Night Live for funny.” And funny it was!
In this weekend’s spoof of Moulin Rouge, the 2001 film starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, musical guest Grande joined Yang in a never-before-seen, uncut version of the film’s iconic love medley. The extended mashup started off the same as the actual film’s, but quickly segued into a particularly giggly Yang and Grande duetting a bizarre collection of mostly unrelated, unromantic songs including “Man! Colin Jost and Michael Che poked fun at politics and pop culture on Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” segment.
Jost dinged the story that a studio within 30 Rockefeller Plaza, where SNL is also housed, was infested with bed bugs. It was reported during the week that Studio 3A, where MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show is set, had to be evacuated due to an “unidentified insect.”
“For more on this story, everybody, look under your seat,” Jost joked.
Che went on to poke fun at Mike Tyson, saying that the boxer would have difficulty pronouncing Netflix, the place where his fight with Jake Paul will stream later this year.
Jost also didn’t pass on the opportunity to mock Republican Katie Britt following her strange State of the Union rebuttal.

On “Saturday Night Live” March 9, Josh Brolin was the host and Ariana Grande the musical guest, but the appearance everyone is talking about is Scarlett Johansson as Katie Britt, the Alabama Senator whose Republican response to the 2024 State of the Union address drew widespread mockery even from conservative pundits. Wearing a plastered smile, and a beweled cross fitting for both “da church and da club,” Johansson’s Britt was probably the high point of “SNL’s” entire take on 2024 politics this season to date.

“Saturday Night Live” kicked off the March 9 episode mocking President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address — but more so, the Republican response. After Mikey Day’s Biden spoke to Congress and mocked House Speaker Mike Johnson shaking his head — “every time I say predecessor, Mike Johnson shakes his head like he just accidentally caught 30 seconds of the show ‘Euphoria'” — he threw it to Katie Britt, the Alabama senator.
With that, Scarlett Johansson appeared as Britt, stating, “Tonight I’ll be auditioning for the part of ‘Scary Mom.’ I’ll be performing an original monologue called ‘This Country is Hell.’”
Continuing to mock Britt’s speech, which was intensely criticized online, she went on to explain how she’s “not just a senator.”

At no surprise, Saturday Night Live kicked off its latest show mocking the Republican response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address.
During the cold open, Mikey Day’s Biden initially shared some words with Congress, “Now tonight, I’m also gonna be talking about my predecessor, mainly because every time I say predecessor, Mike Johnson shakes his head like he just accidentally caught 30 seconds of the show Euphoria.”
The comment was referencing Johnson, the House Speaker, who was seen shaking his head and rolling his eyes behind Biden throughout his speech on Thursday.
Day’s Biden later tossed to the Republican rebuttal, which came from Alabama Sen. Katie Britt this year. “Anyway, you know, I’d stay here and talk to you all more, but I saw a glimpse of the Republican senator’s response to my speech and I think she’s gonna help me...

Sen. Katie Britt (R-Alabama) delivered a “strange” rebuttal to President Joe Biden‘s State of the Union in a nationally televised address where she labeled him a “dithering and diminished leader.”
Britt, the youngest Republican woman serving in the U.S. Senate at the age of 42, chose her kitchen table as the backdrop to criticize Biden on various issues, such as the Middle East conflicts, the economy and the perceived transformation of the American dream into a “nightmare.” Her primary focus, like many Republicans, centered around the US-Mexico border.
Britt’s impassioned speech was met with online mockery, with critics calling it “dramatic,” “creepy” and “insincere.” Her odd tone ranged from “shouty” to seemingly near tears during the address.
CNN analyst and former Trump White House Communications Director Alyssa Farah Griffin wrote on X, “Senator Katie Britt is a very impressive person. She ran a hell of race in Al.

Some moments in the news scream out loud to be satirized; the Republican response to the State of the Union reached shrieking decibels on social media after Alabama Senator Katie Britt’s address from her spotless kitchen Thursday night.
Will these concerted cries reach the ears of Lorne Michaels at Saturday Night Live?
Seems unimaginable that they won’t, though it doesn’t mean the show’s creator/executive producer will necessarily leap to comply. Michaels makes decisions based on his own instincts, not the expectations of anyone else.
That said, he also knows what’s funny, and Britt’s theatrically earnest/horror-movie frightening delivery has already inspired massive mockery. And even some amateur impressions, with several women donning green blouses and jeans and projecting creepy sincerity in front of their stove and cabinets.

The ritual surrounding the annual State of the Union is never complete until the president’s opposition has presented its rebuttal — occasionally in an embarrassing manner.
Katie Britt, the junior Republican senator from Alabama, delivered the GOP’s rebuttal to President Joe Biden’s address on Thursday. Her impassioned, breathless speech — delivered at times in an Asmr-esque whisper from what appeared to be her kitchen — ended up feeling more like a rejected audition tape for a supporting role on “Grey’s Anatomy” than the hard-hitting political sparring favored by Biden’s Republican critics.

“If I was smart, I’d go home now,” President Joe Biden began his fourth State of the Union address on Thursday after receiving one of the few bipartisan rounds of applause he’d get all night. The well-worn line by the incumbent got a laugh as expected, but for Speaker Mike Johnson and many Republicans tonight, that opening line should have been a hint.
Put it another way, as Johnson and other members of his party stayed in their seats like wilting potted plants or simply walked out, the often underwhelming Biden came looking for a fight. Gifted by the flaws of his enemies, as all the most successful politicians are, Biden quickly moved from false humility to give the GOP a beatdown in a speech that most candidates would have saved for their national convention.

In the pre-coverage of Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, the speech is being billed as the most important of his presidency, what with his dismal approval numbers and what is shaping up to be very difficult campaign for reelection.
Moreover, so much attention has been paid to the president’s age — at 81, he is the first octogenarian on a major party ticket — that any kind of slip up will be seized upon by his rivals.
Then again, Biden’s most memorable moment last year was an exchange with House Republicans over Social Security, showing that the president had command of the stage. That’s why it’ll be interesting to see if GOP members restrain themselves so as to not give the president the opportunity this year.
