Singapore's Bugis Street was renown in the 1950s-1980s for its night gathering of transgender persons, making it one of Singapore's top tourist destinations during that period. In the mid 1980's, Bugis Street went under major urban redevelopment into a modern shopping complex, as well as the construction of a subway station, which ended the area's prior nightlife for transgender persons. Yonfan came up with a movie that celebrated this bygone era and colorful aspect of Singapore, which became a minor hit at the box office, despite the sexually explicit R(A)Rating due to male full frontal nudity. In 2015, the restored version of the film was presented at the 26th Singapore International Film Festival as Bugis Street Redux at 103 minutes while a new restoration is screening this year in Venice at 4K and at 98 minutes.

Fukuoka (Japan), July 22 (Ians) Australia’s Cassiel Rousseau claimed the men’s 10m platform title on Saturday to stop China from a clean sweep of all diving gold medals at the World Aquatics Championships.
China, who has won all other 12 diving events, still managed to secure the silver and bronze.
Rousseau, who was fourth in last year’s Budapest world championships, pulled ahead after the fifth dive when previous round leader Lian Junjie’s poor execution of 207B — back 3.5 somersaults pike — earned only 70.20 points, reports Xinhua.
Before the final round, Rousseau had built a lead of 1.05 points over second-placed Kyle Kothari of Britain. Lian was third with 8.50 points adrift.
In the final round, Rousseau and Lian, who uncorked the same dive, both earned 98.05 points, which was enough for Rousseau to seal the victory with a total of 520.85 points.
Lian took silver in 512.35 and his Chinese teammate Yang Hao finished third...

“The Lesson,” the Israeli drama series that was named best series at the 2022 Cannes International Series Festival, is set to premiere June 21 on streamer ChaiFlicks.
Created and written by Deakla Keydar, “The Lesson” is a deft socio-political drama revolving around troubled high school civics teacher Amir and Lian, a 17-year-old student in his class.
The series, which first premiered in January 2022, was also named best drama series at the Israeli Television Academy Awards in 2023. Maya Landsmann, who plays Lian, won best lead actress at that same ceremony.
Leib Lev Levin, Alma Zak and Dvir Benedek also star in the six-episode series, which is directed by Eitan Zur. Loosely based on a real-life incident, the focal argument in “The Lesson” spins wildly out of control thanks to an online post, capturing the zeitgeist of a society steeped in social media. The series explores the fiery aftermath of a politically-charged debate over racism,...
