“I Saw the TV Glow” director Jane Schoenbrun finally celebrated their second feature at the film’s New York City premiere on Wednesday, April 24, in partnership with Rooftop Films. But “I Saw the TV Glow” first premiered back in January at Sundance, under the banner of A24, and with Emma Stone and Dave McCary’s production company Fruit Tree.

The visually striking film follows two teens who are obsessed with a disturbing young adult TV show that, once canceled, starts to bleed into reality for the characters. David Ehrlich wrote in IndieWire’s review that the film “marries the queer radicality...

In an effort to defend trans rights in the United States, the U.K., and Canada, dozens of artists have recorded cover songs for a new compilation that will raise money for organizations in those countries. Joanna Sternberg recorded Caroline Rose’s “Everywhere I Go I Bring the Rain,” Rostam interpreted Lucinda Williams’ “Change the Locks,” Wednesday took on Elliott Smith’s “Christian Brothers,” and Model/Actriz perform the Ting Tings’ “That’s Not My Name” on the 44-track Fader + Friends Vol. 1 compilation available on Bandcamp for one month, starting today.

Fader has released Fader & Friends Vol. 1, a real star-studded covers compilation benefitting charities fighting for transgender rights.
There’s a whole lot in these 44 tracks, but here are just a few notable highlights: CoSign alums Wednesday recorded their rendition of Elliott Smith’s “Christian Brothers,” Rostam covered Lucinda Williams’ “Change the Locks,” Ratboys did The Beatles’ “I Wanna Hold Your Hand,” and NNAMDÏ did The Beach Boys’ “Wouldn’t It Be Nice.”
While most of the performers on the compilation — including Caroline Rose and Joanna Stenberg, who covered each other — are relative newcomers, the crop of songs constitute a vast timeline. There are covers of Big Thief, Perfume Genius, and Ethel Cain mixed together with songs by Stevie Wonder, Abba, Tina Turner, and Selena. There’s even an old English folk song (courtesy of Helena Deland).

Lately, for Hayden Silas Anhedönia, time feels like a slippery concept. If she’s not playing shows halfway across the world, she’s usually tucked away in her bedroom, a quiet hideaway in Pittsburgh with a sloped roof that doubles as a portal to another world.
Here, the hours glide by, one after the other. She might spend 12, 13, even 14 hours trapped inside, leaning over her computer, lost in the expansive sounds she’s creating. “You’ll get up at 9 a.m. to start working, and then you’re like, ‘Oh,...

The time has come again for Barack Obama to share his summer playlist; as usual, it’s a mix of classics and modern hits. Catch the former president with headphones on, and you may hear him listening to modern cool kids like boygenius or Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj, or revered legends like Leonard Cohen. You may also hear him listening to “Walk Like an Egyptian.”
You could clown on Obama for including the latter track, but you can’t say The Bangles don’t deliver some summery fun! Those good vibes continue with cuts like 2Pac’s “California Love” and Otis Redding’s “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay.” Elsewhere, the 2023 playlist slows down for Pearl Jam’s “Just Breathe” and Luke Combs’ take on “Fast Car,” Tracy Chapman’s 1988 song that recently charted even higher than before thanks to the unlikely country cover.

Just in case you’re not a regular Consequence reader, one thing we love to keep track of around here is Barack Obama’s taste in music. The playlists he’s been sharing over the past few years have included some surprisingly hip names — Ethel Cain, Wet Leg, and Parquet Courts, to name just a few — which has led America’s youth to wonder: Does the former president actually listen to this? He insists that he does.
Obama sat down for an interview with Hasan Minhaj recently, and the comedian wasted no time in asking the hard-hitting questions. “When you do your end-of-the-year lists, do you really read all those books, watch all those shows, and listen to all those songs?”
“I do!” Obama proclaimed, as if he’s giving the State of the Union address. “Listen. I am so glad that I have this opportunity. People, they believe the books and the movies,...

Florence and the Machine has shared a new song, “Mermaids,” which is part of the “universe” of the group’s recent LP Dance Fever.
The track, produced by Dave Bayley, is a darkly layered pop tune that sees Florence Welch singing about the grey English weather, Britney Spears and “cheerful oblivion.” “You haven’t seen nothing/ until you’ve seen an English girl drink,” Welch croons over a propulsive synth beat.
Welch previously teased the new song with several Instagram posts, including one of her in a bathtub wearing a mermaid tail and vampire teeth.

Caroline Polachek has unveiled her second solo album, Desire, I Want to Turn into You. Listen to the LP below.
Featuring long-released cuts “Bunny Is a Rider” and “Billions” as well as more recently premiered singles “Welcome to My Island” and Song of the Week “Blood and Butter,” Desire, I Want to Turn into You follows Polachek’s 2019 solo debut Pang.
Of the title, the artist explained, “One, it can be read as being about the ‘you.’ We all know that feeling of falling in love, of wanting to obsessively learn from and become that person. But on the other hand, maybe desire is the thing you want to turn into itself.”
Polachek is set to kick off a lengthy world tour in support of the album, which features a revolving door of esteemed indie rock support from George Clanton, Toro Y Moi, Sudan Archives, Magdalena Bay, Alex G, and Ethel Cain.

Maxi Jazz, the lead singer of electronic band Faithless, has died aged 65.
The rapper and musician, real name Maxwell Fraser, was a core member of the group formed in 1995 alongside Rollo and Sister Bliss.
Together, they released a number of hits including “Insomnia” and “We Come 1”, with the former selling more than a million copies. “Insomnia” is regarded by many as one of the greatest dance tracks of all time.
A statement shared on the musician's Instagram said: “We are heartbroken to say Maxi Jazz died peacefully at his home in south London last night.
“He was a man who changed our lives in so many ways. He gave proper meaning and message to our music.
“He was also a lovely human being with time for everyone and a wisdom that was both profound and accessible. It was an honour and, of course , a true pleasure to work with him.
