With a new Hitman movie out, it's a good excuse to bring Nicolas Cage back to Awfully Good... Bangkok Dangerous (2008) Director: The Pang Brothers Stars: Nicolas Cage, Shahkrit Yamnarm, Charlie Yeung A hitman goes to Thailand for one last job and has his icy assassin heart melted by a deaf girl and some elephants. Bangkok Dangerous would be great had there never... Read More...

Bangkok Dangerousby Peter Dimako Dangerously close to becoming the worst film I've ever seen. By far the worst film ever played in by “Oscar® winner” Nicolas Cage. The star of so many a remembered film powered this abomination to a top spot over possibly the poorest box office weekend of the year. Now it arrives on DVD. I have always been a Nicolas Cage fan from his early years up until “Lord of War,” thereafter, the death of a superstar began. From “Wicker Man,” “Ghost Rider” through “Next” and now in the Pang brothers' painful “Bangkok Dangerous,” Cage’s latest starring roles are questionable to say the least. Forgive the awfully bad hairstyle, as eye-prodding as it is, Cage’s acting skills have deteriorated largely due to his constant efforts at trying to staple himself in as an action star. In “Dangerous” he stars as a lonely assassin called Joe...

Bangkok Dangerous Based on the Pang Brothers’ wildly popular Hong Kong action film of the same name, Bangkok Dangerous follows the story of Joe (Cage), a remorseless hit man who comes to Bangkok to execute four enemies of a ruthless crime boss. He hires Kong (Shahkrit Yamnarm, Belly of the Beast), a street punk and pickpocket, to run errands for him with the intention of covering his tracks by killing him at the end of the assignment. Strangely, Joe, the ultimate lone wolf, finds himself mentoring the young man instead whilst simultaneously being drawn into a tentative romance with [...]...

The players: Directors: Oxide Pang, Danny Pang, Writer: Jason Richman, Cast: Nicolas Cage, Shaun Delaney, Steve Baldocchi, Charlie Yeung, Shahkrit Yamnarm
Facts of interest: Remake of the Pangs' 1999 flick of the same title.
The plot: A hit man gets into trouble after he travels to Bangkok and falls in love with a local.
Our quick thoughts: “Bangkok Dangerous” may not be as disastrous as I expected, but it sure is the perfect example of what happens to a remake going through the big, predictable Hollywood machine. In short, this means you’re in for an unsurprising action flick with a monotonous plot, insufficient suspense and only a few entertaining sequences.

Bangkok Dangerous
Starring Nicolas Cage and Shahkrit Yamnarm
Directed by Danny and Oxide Pang
Rated R
You hear all the time that sex and violence in movies and television has desensitized our society, and dangerously so. We're warned about letting our children play Grand Theft Auto, meanwhile their grandparents sang along as Johnny Cash shot a man in Reno just to watch him die. Sorry, but I don't see much difference.
Sex and violence is around us all the time and it always has been, intertwined in a way that it probably shouldn't be. Of course, Jack the Ripper never downloaded porn or watched a slasher movie, so what set him off?
On the surface, Bangkok Dangerous brings to mind those images of sex and violence, not separate but rushing together. Bangkok, as you probably know, has one of the world's most liberal sex trades - you want it, you got it.

The Pang brothers Oxide and Danny Pang co-helm the remake of the 1999 actioner "Bangkok Dangerous." Truly versatile, hard-working Nicolas Cage stars in the new version written by Jason Richman ("Bad Company," "Swing Vote"). The film debuts on September 5th in over 2,500+ cinemas and tries it's luck against "Tropic Thunder" which has a three weekend top spot run. The busy Cage is up next in Alex Proyas'"Knowing" sci-fi thriller and frontlines a strong cast including Penelope Cruz, Steve Buscemi, Bill Nighy and Kelly Garner in "G-Force." "Knowing" helmer Proyas is known for "Dark City," "The Crow" and "I, Robot." Filmed in Bangkok, Thailand and in Prague, Czech Republic, the story follows an anonymous assassin whose life takes an unexpected turn when he travels to Thailand to complete a series of contract killings. Joe (Nicolas Cage), a remorseless hitman, is in Bangkok to execute four enemies of a ruthless crime boss named Surat.
