- James Douglas was raised in Austin, Texas. His father owns an Engineering firm His mother, a physicist turned doctor, owns a private medical practice. James started acting in early childhood, and began taking acting lessons as a way to meet women at the age of 18. His first stage acting role was 'Romeo' in Shakespear's 'Romeo and Juliet', followed by a small uncredited role in the film 'Waiting for Guffman'. Several small roles in feature films followed, including 'The Faculty', 'Varsity Blues', 'Just Sue Me' and 'A Slipping Down Life'. On the set of 'A Slipping Down Life', Lili Taylor recommended he study at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theater in New York City, which he did soon after. Upon graduation, he made his producing debut and starred in the film Mockingbird (2002). He has written numerous screenplays, including 'Suicide Jack' and 'Valhalla's End'. - Is the youngest of three brothers. The oldest, Daniel, an Austin Police Officer, and Richard, a Science-Fiction writer.
- Has also worked as a Locksmith, bartender, computer draftsman, door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesman, tele-marketer, door-to-door cable TV salesman, nightclub doorman, club promoter, Traveling Art Dealer, magazine journalist, Public Insurance Adjuster and a walking "Human Keg" beer dispenser at concert venues.
