Died of stomach cancer in Atlanta hours before his jersey was retired
by the Montreal Canadians. He was represented by his wife and three
adult children at the ceremony.
Was the son-in-law of Montreal Canadiens hockey legend Howie Morenz
Bernie's grandson, Shane Monahan, was a one-time prospect for the
Seattle Mariners, in the late 90s.
