Podcast creators on Spotify and YouTube keep hearing it: if they post video versions of their episodes, they’ll reach more listeners and build stronger connections with their core audience.
James and Anthony Deveney, hosts of Raiders of the Lost Podcast, tell Tubefilter they think that’s true.
“Video podcasting is a format that we adopted day one with our show and moving to Spotify opened the door for us to share the video version of our podcast with as many listeners as possible,” they say. “We saw the signs of high engagement implementing video years ago, plus the potential for growth it offers by standing out in the booming industry of podcasts. Video gives us a personal connection to our listeners because they feel even more like they’re in the studio with us and Spotify has helped us achieve goals that were only dreams a few years ago.

Jacksepticeye‘s latest Thankmas charity livestream raised over $6 million for World Central Kitchen.
It also brought his total amount raised over six years of Thankmas to more than $25 million.
Jacksepticeye (aka Sean McLoughlin) began holding Thankmas in 2017, first as a stream from his YouTube channel, and later, in partnership with fundraising platform Tiltify, as a bigger, stage-set live event with guest stars including Jack Black, Markiplier, and Valkyrae. Thankmas raised $4.6 million to support Red Nose Day in 2020, then $7.6 million for New Story in 2021, and $10 million for World Central Kitchen last year.
This year’s show ran for 24 hours, from Dec. 2 to Dec. 3, and was co-hosted by Ethan Nestor. During the stream, he presented McLoughlin with a plaque commemorating Thankmas’ lifetime total of $25 million raised.

Pokimane has a lot on her plate. She’s Twitch‘s top followed female streamer, has nearly 7 million YouTube subscribers, is co-owner (with Markiplier and Jacksepticeye) of clothing brand Cloak, is chief creative officer at talent management/consulting firm Rts, and just launched her own food brand, Myna Snacks.
Now she’s adding one more thing to her already busy schedule: a podcast.
Called Don’t Tell Anyone, the weekly show will have Pokimane (aka Imane Anys) giving her “honest and unfiltered” advice to listeners, plus divulging a few of her own “hottest takes and most embarrassing secrets.”
In a Nov. 13 YouTube video called brutally honest life update, Anys said she’s been working on Don’t Tell Anyone for a few months, but has been thinking about getting into podcasting “for a very, very long time.”

After spending nearly a decade caught in development hell, the "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie finally hit theaters over the weekend, and it did so with a bang that caught the industry off guard. Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions delivered one of the biggest horror hits ever in its opening weekend, and that is no exaggeration. We're talking about the third biggest opening weekend ever for a horror movie, trailing only the blockbuster debuts of both "It" ($123 million opening) and "It Chapter Two" ($91 million).
"Five Nights at Freddy's" opened to $80 million domestically to go with $52 million internationally for a staggering $132 million global start, per Variety. Its budget was in the $20 million range, making this an instant runaway success, far beyond what anyone in the industry had predicted, myself included. Director Emma Tammi's adaptation of the wildly popular video game series shattered expectations. The most amazing part? The film was...

In an era of complicated first-person shooters, detailed world-building, and dueling consoles, one of the internet’s most popular games built a gaming fandom with a simple point-and-click.
First released in 2014, Five Nights at Freddy’s was an indie game initially crowdfunded, then released for players on Steam by developer Scott Cawthon. While the gameplay was simple — survive five nights in a spooky abandoned pizza parlor while animatronic animals try to kill you — Five Nights at Freddy’s (or Fnaf as it is known online) had a fandom larger than most mainstream...

Halloweekend was made for frights at the box office, but few could have predicted the jump-scare of a $78 million opening for “Five Nights at Freddy’s.” Universal’s video game adaptation, hailing from game creator Scott Cawthorn and Blumhouse, just beat out “Scream VI” and “M3GAN” for biggest horror release of the year while streaming simultaneously on Peacock.
“Freddy’s” is the story of Mike (Josh Hutcherson), a security guard trapped in a literal dead-end job at a Chuck E. Cheese-esque arcade and restaurant opposite five haunted animatronics: Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie the Rabbit, Foxy the Pirate, Chica the Chicken, and Carl the Cupcake. Along for the night shift is his 10-year-old sister Abby (Piper Rubio) and a spectacularly hapless local cop, Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail).
FNaF doesn’t sound like the stuff of groundbreaking horror. (Note: Gamers often pronounce the abbreviation as one word: “fin-aff.”) It lacks the social commentary of “Get Out...

"Five Nights at Freddy's" started its life as a simple but terrifyingly effective indie game in which the player must survive the night shift in a family restaurant where the animatronics get restless after the sun goes down. Now, the movie adaptation from director Emma Tammi has set a new record for the Halloween weekend box office, and will likely supplant 2018's "Halloween" to be crowned as Blumhouse Productions' biggest ever debut.
Existing fans of the games excitedly gathered for Thursday night previews, propelling the movie to $10.3 million at the domestic box office before it had even got to its official opening day. By the end of Friday it had already grossed $39.5 million, a number that most horror movies would be delighted to hit in an entire opening weekend.

If you're a fan of "Five Nights at Freddy's," chances are you're also a fan of The Living Tombstone. Consisting of musicians Yoav Landau and Sam Haft, The Living Tombstone is considered by many to be the unofficial sound of "FNaF," after the duo created a series of songs and music videos inspired by the games. Or, more likely, you're familiar with that absolutely bangin' remix of Andrew Gold's "Spooky Scary Skeletons." You know, the one everyone dances to on TikTok around Halloween season? Yeah, that was Landau's doing.
This is all to say, The Living Tombstone might not be a household name to the general public, but for those in the know, they're a pretty big deal. So much so that when the "FNaF" movie was first announced, one of the biggest questions (outside of wondering if Markiplier would be making a cameo) asked by the fandom...

Review: I feel as though I need to state right from the onset that while I’m familiar with the Five Nights at Freddy’s series of games, I wouldn’t call myself a fan. First-person jump scares don’t really appeal to me so I never found myself picking up the controller. Most of my experience is through YouTubers like Markiplier and PewDiePie playing the game. And I’m aware of the rabid fanbase, especially amongst Gen Z. But I’m looking at this as it’s presented to me: as a movie. And as such, it really fails to deliver anything interesting.

Sorry, gamers, but Markiplier does not have a secret cameo in "Five Nights at Freddy's." Mark "Markiplier" Fischbach is colloquially known as the "King of 'FNaF'" for his role in helping spread the indie video game to the masses, and many speculated that he would appear in the live-action adaptation. Unfortunately, that's not happening, as confirmed by the King himself.
In a new video published to his YouTube channel, Fischbach confirmed that the lack of his presence was nothing more than a scheduling conflict. "It was supposed to happen," he said. "There was a time it was supposed to occur, and unfortunately the 'Five Nights at Freddy's' movie and my movie, 'Iron Lung,' were being filmed at the exact same time," he said. The long-awaited cinematic adaptation of "Five Nights at Freddy's" is due out on October 27, 2023, and fan speculation is well underway. Is Matthew Lillard's Steve Raglan actually franchise baddie, William Afton? Is Elizabeth Lail's Vanessa going to be revealed as the villainous Vanny? And what's the deal with Mary Stuart Masterson's Aunt Jane? As heads swirl with questions and theories, fans can at least take solace in knowing ahead of time that "FNaF" will proudly feature cameos from some of the most popular gamers responsible for helping introduce Scott Cawthon's creepy survival game featuring possessed animatronics to the masses.
As has been confirmed by the trailer and from public acknowledgments, YouTubers 8-Bit Ryan, Baz, Razzbowski, FusionZGamer, and Dawko are all shown on Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria's "Employee of the Month" board. However, the biggest cameo appearance comes from CoryxKenshin, who plays the role of a cab driver.

It used to be that video game adaptations were limited to big budget franchises, with household names like Super Mario Bros. and Mortal Kombat getting blockbuster movies while more niche experiences like Dino Crisis and System Shock were mostly ignored by non-gamer audiences. Not only that, but corporate expectations and bloated production budgets meant that these big screen adaptations would often misunderstand what made these franchises popular in the first place.
Fortunately, it seems that the days of the “video game curse” are far behind us. Not only are recognizable franchises like Five Nights at Freddy’s receiving long-awaited adaptations, but even indie experiments like David Szymanski’s Iron Lung are being adapted into feature length horror movies (with this one in particular being written and directed by none other than Markiplier). Markiplier is ready for his close-up. The gamer (real name Mark Fischbach) is set to direct and star in a Hollywood adaptation of the horror video game Iron Lung.
To get Iron Lung onto the big screen, Fischbach will wear many hats. According to Deadline, the Ohio native — who reaches more than 34 million subscribers on his namesake YouTube channel — will finance the feature out of his own pocket. When Donald Glover’s stunning starter home in the sleepy Los Angeles suburb of La Cañada Flintridge first hit the market in February, the listing attracted substantial publicity from Dirt and other outlets. One of the deep-pocketed folks who caught wind of the sale was Mark Fischbach, the 31-year-old gaming YouTuber better known as Markiplier. Fischbach quickly won the keys to the place, paying exactly $4 million — $15,000 over the asking price — for the estate.
Of course, it’s no surprise that Fischbach can afford to afford to pay millions for a home; he’s one of the most successful YouTubers of all time, with upwards of 15 billion lifetime video views, 29 million subscribers, and a widely reported $35 million net worth. It’s a big come up for the Hawaii-born University of Cincinnati dropout, the son of an American Army veteran and a Korean mother, who grew up poor in the Cincinnati suburbs.
