In 2014, it seemed like Iggy Azalea was on the fast lane to success with her breakout mainstream hit "Fancy" but in recent years, it seems like her music career has been stalled amid a whole lotta drama. So when can we expect a comeback? Possibly soon; Earlier this month, Iggy released the single "Can't Lose," featuring Lil Uzi Vert, and the rapper said on social media this week that a new single and music video, "Mo Bounce," would be released Friday. She is also still working on her anticipated new album, Social Distortion, which is expected to drop this year. Did Iggy Peak With...

Constantine Season 1, Episode 1: “Non Est Asylum”
Written by David Goyer and Daniel Cerone
Directed by Neil Marshall
Airs Fridays at 10 pm Et on NBC
The opening shot of Constantine is quite rich. It’s a medium shot, straight ahead, of the Ravenscar Secure Facility, the mental asylum that John Constantine (Matt Ryan) admits himself in to when he inadvertently damns the soul of his friend’s daughter, Astra, to Hell in the Hellblazer comic. Immediately, there is a nod to the source material, as well as establishing that our protagonist isn’t right in the head or the ethical department, but there’s a tiny chance he could change. “Non Est Asylum” is all about how Constantine isn’t at home in Heaven or Hell, but somewhere in between (Even though he is currently damned). He, his best friend and driver Chas (a laconic Charles Halford), and another friend...

Hard to believe that The Rolling Stones, half of The Beatles and The Who, and a dozen more bands that started a full decade before The Ramones (1974) have outlived them, and in many cases are still touring. They were one of my favorite punk bands ever... and with the recent death of Tommy Ramone (nee Thomas Erdelyi), all four original members of one of New York's finest bands ever, we are not "glad to see you go." The first three -- lead singer Joey (nee Jeffrey Hyman, died 2001), bass player Dee Dee (nee Douglas Colvin, died 2002), and guitarist Johnny (nee John Cummings, died 2004) -- all died only within six years after calling it quits.
They did not go gently into the night. Their off-stage dramas kept them from maintaining their once shared friendships.
Ironic isn't it? The original Ramones, the guys from "Rockaway Beach" that wanted to be sedated, are all gone.

I've been following the career of notorious Phoenix, Az horror-rock trio Calabrese since the earliest days of Fearnet, beginning with their awesome second album The Traveling Vampire Show. In a music genre spawned by the likes of the Misfits and the Damned and filled with countless imitators, the team of Bobby, Davey and Jimmy Calabrese have not only risen up from the underground to distinguish themselves from the pack, but they've managed to carve out a sweet bit of hellbilly turf to to call their very own, and populated it with colorful and spooky characters from horror movies, shows, books, comics and the like. But while their macabre but romantic themes and playful horror image have served them very well all these years, the time comes for any dedicated artist to grow and evolve... and with their fifth full-length album Born With a Scorpion's Touch, the brothers Calabrese have taken...

Well, we’re going to try this again, and just throw you some of the stuff that caught our eye over the last few days.
We’re actually hoping to get this out every couple of days or so, but if you’ve been with us for a while, you know that we really kind of suck at stuff like that.
This is also, hopefully and potentially, going to be a pretty wide range, especially moving forward. We’d like a little bit of everything, including all the stuff that there is no way we can cover – we can’t do everything.
Have fun.

Weekend 1 General Admission passes already sold out in the advance sale, however, those who are still vying for Weekend 1 passes can purchase them Tuesday when tickets go on sale -- but must do so in either a car camping package or a shuttle pass package. I recently emceed a very cool smart culture event for Blackberry's Playbook (digital tablet) at their pop-up shop in Chelsea. Not only did I conduct interviews with artist Peter Max, blues pianist Henry Butler, and indie band The Kin, but with two outstanding rock photographers -- Mick Rock and John Scarpati.
Mick is the more well-known of the two, having captured iconographic rock images from the late '60s through the '70s of Syd Barrett, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, David Bowie, Queen, Sex Pistols, Blondie, and more. But John has done amazing work as well, just during a different time period on the West Coast, more specifically L.A. bands during the '80s. Many folks have seen his photos of Fishbone, The Cramps (image left), Jane's Addiction, Poison, L.A. Guns, Social Distortion, Redd Kross, et al. Los Angeles – Any music fan who has visited Los Angeles over the holidays must be familiar with the ambiguously-titled “Almost Acoustic Christmas,” the annual two-night concert hosted by alternative rock station Kroq. Now in its 22nd installment, Almost Acoustic Christmas has become synonymous with the biggest bands gathering at the Gibson Amphitheater to celebrate the holidays in a very un-acoustic manner. Night one’s lineup this year, however, was particularly special – it featured seven (out of eight) artists who have previously played the festival, namely headliners Blink 182, 311, Sublime with Rome, Social Distortion, Bush, New Found Glory and Chevelle.
Night one started off with a little bit of nostalgia, as New Found Glory took a moment to reminisce about the last time they performed with Blink on the 2001 "Take of Your Pants and Jacket Tour." By music industry standards, ten years is ancient history.

A concert featuring hitmakers Bush, Sublime, Social Distortion, 311, and Blink 182 sounds like a dream bill -- for 1999. But that was the topline on night one of this year's Kroq Acoustic Christmas, held at its regular home Gibson Amphitheater at Universal. A stark contrast to the 22-year-old fest's usual standard of lining up talent that's representative of the cutting edge of rock, it was also a somewhat depressing reminder of the aging demographic that actually still listens to rock music, with many in the audience downing large amounts of nostalgia along with their Bud Lights. Still going strong after three decades at the helm of Social Distortion, singer, guitarist, and songwriter Mike Ness has never been accused of being shy. Now, the pioneering punk rocker is using his famous voice to speak out in behalf of animals as he appears in a brand new pro-vegetarian ad for peta2—the world’s largest youth animal rights organization.
The ad reads, “I Believe in Standing Up for Animals Who Can’t Speak for Themselves. I Love Being a Vegetarian, and I Believe It Is the Right Choice for Me.” It concludes, “I’m Mike Ness From Social Distortion, and I Am a Vegetarian.”

Lesson of the day: don't do drugs and then overdose in front of your kid because you just might end up in jail. That's what happened anyway to Casey Royer. The former drummer for SoCal punk band Social Distortion was charged today with one count of child endangerment and one count of being under the influence of heroin after Od'ing on the drug in front of his 12-year-old son while the two watched TV at home last week. The medical emergency prompted the younger Royer to get help from neighbors who called an ambulance as well as police. Lucky for him, the 52-year-old rocker was taken to a nearby hospital in time and doctors managed to revive him. Unfortunately, however, Royer was arrested...

The Decemberists debut at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 200 this week. Their latest studio album "The King Is Dead" leads the U.S. albums chart with 94,000 copies sold in its first week of release, exceeding its initial prediction of around 70,000. It marks their highest-charting effort and their best-ever sale week.
The sale figure of the No. 1 album might still be quite so-so, but it manages to halt the string of Hot 200's record-breaking slow weeks. The other thing about this week's list is that all hold-overs are forced to move out of the Top 5 as new entries come flooding the chart.
"Kidz Bop 19" collection bows at No. 2 with 70,000, The Script's "Science & Faith [Us Version]" enters at No. 3 (49,000), Social Distortion's "Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes" lands at No. 4, (46,000), and Gregg Allman's "Low Country Blues" starts at No. 5 (36,000).

Indie darlings The Decemberists rule the Billboard 200 albums chart this week with their latest album, "The King Is Dead." It's the band's first #1 album and biggest sales week ever, selling 94,000 copies in its first week. Their last album, 2009's "The Hazards of Love," debuted and peaked at #14, selling only 19,000.
The Decemberists lead a top 5 of all-new releases, only the fifth time that's ever happened. At #2 is the latest compilation of kid-sung hits, "Kidz Bop 19," which includes covers of tracks from Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, and Usher, among others. The album debuts at #2 with 70,000. It's the first time a "Kidz Bop" album debuted that high since the "Kidz Bop 9" in 2006.
At #3 is the second album from "The Script" which just saw it's U.S. debut last week. The album, "Science & Faith," starts at #3, selling 49,000 copies. Their last album only went as high as #64. Social Distortion follows with the first top 10 album...

A week after Cake landed their first #1 debut, the Decemberists also put up their best-ever career numbers, easily taking over the top spot on the Billboard 200 with a strong debut for their most straightforward work to date, The King Is Dead.
The big debut crushes their previous chart best, notched in 2009 when their rock opera The Hazards of Love moved 19,000 copies in its first week and came in at #14. The King smashes that debut figure by selling nearly 94,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, halting the string of record-low #1 sales figures.
The Decemberists lead a stampede of new names into the top five, which also includes the Kidz Bop 19 collection at #2 (70,000); Science & Faith, the latest from Irish soft rockers the Script (#3, 49,000); a career-best bow for punk lifers Social Distortion...

The smartest thing Social Distortion ever did was embrace country music. In the mid 1980s, following a sizable hardcore hit with “Mommy’s Little Monster,” the band melded their manic punk with messy country and came up with a sound that wasn’t exactly unprecedented (X, for instance, got there first) but was distinctive and rambunctious. And durable: A quarter-century and a handful of albums later, the Los Angeles outfit has barely changed its sound at all, which sounds all the more relevant in the wake of newer acts like the Hold Steady, the Gaslight Anthem and Lucero....

Droll Sacramento, California, rockers Cake might never again have the chance to snatch away one of the umpteen records held by platinum darling Taylor Swift.
But next week, the group can say they bested Swift, even if it is, in this case, a somewhat dubious distinction. The good news is that Cake's Showroom of Compassion marks the band's first #1 debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart and their first album to chart in the top 10. The bad news is that their total sales of 44,000 also mark the poorest-selling #1 debut figures for a new album in the modern SoundScan era. (Swift had set the new standard last week, when her Speak Now moved just 52,000 copies.)
Another indie band took advantage of the slow new-release traffic to notch a career high. According...

I'm kind of glad though because there's a whole lot of not very good happening tonight in TV land, at least as far as I'm concerned. Now that Social Distortion has settled on a steady schedule of releasing an album every seven or eight years, it’s easier to chart how much Mike Ness progresses as a songwriter from record to record. Or not. Progress isn’t really Ness’ department; Since performing a shit-kicking overhaul of punk starting with 1983’s Mommy’s Little Monster, Social D has tapped ever deeper into its Americana roots while giving Ness plenty of grease for his gruff, rough-and-tumble confessionals. Hard Times And Nursery Rhymes, the band’s seventh album, doesn’t poison that well—but it comes close to ...

As I sit here with my cup of tea and sort through the interwebs to start my day, I notice that it's apparently snowing in large sections of the country today. Yeah, it's all pretty and novel now, but in a few weeks when it's all grey slush on the side of the road that freezes overnight to try and make you slip (yes, snow has evil intentions, just trust me here) you won't be so chipper about it. Me? I'm just annoyed that it's a bit too chilly to wear flip flops in North Cuba today. Here's your Monday night TV:

The holiday season is upon is, and though none of the talk shows appear to have booked Santa Claus or Frosty the Snowman, that doesn't mean that they aren't also getting into an extra-festive spirit. Oscar hopefuls, holiday movie headliners and bit-name musicians looking to shift copies of high-profile albums again dominate the lineup this week, though there are plenty of late-season surprises in store for anybody willing to sacrifice his or her bedtime in favor of after-hours entertainment.

Every year around this time, the good folks behind Chicago's Lollapalooza finally unveil the daily schedule for the three-day festival by the lake. It's an occasion both exhilarating and heart-rending for ticket holders looking forward to 72 hours of musical nirvana in the shadow of the big city. Exhilarating because they can finally figure out where to be when, and heartbreaking because, inevitably, they'll realize there's no way to be in two places at once to catch their favorite acts facing off at opposite ends of the more than mile-long festival grounds.
And so, we offer you this year's allotment of musical "Sophie's Choices," which, to be honest, are not as fraught as past years (when, for instance, you had to choose between dueling headliners such as Tool and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs or Kanye West versus Nine Inch Nails).

But when the pharmaceutical company that funds their research forbids it, Clive and Elsa secretly take their boldest experimentation underground—risking their careers by pushing the boundaries of science to serve their own curiosity and ambition.
