Jake Paul is getting back in the ring to take on an opponent who will be 58 years old at the time of the fight. But Paul’s opponent isn’t an ordinary fiftysomething: Boxing legend Mike Tyson will do battle against “The Problem Child” in a spectacle that will be broadcast live on Netflix.
The bout is scheduled for July 20, with AT&T Stadium (the home of the Dallas Cowboys) serving as the host venue. Netflix partnered with Most Valuable Promotions to put on the event, which could draw a live, in-person audience of up to 80,000 attendees.
The combatants took opposite paths to their upcoming clash. Paul is a social media star who magnified the influencer boxing trend after a series of strong performances in the ring. The WWE has invited a wide spectrum of celebrities to help commemorate ‘The Showcase of the Immortals’ since the first WrestleMania in 1985. Events have featured a diverse range of celebrities, including Donald Trump, Floyd Mayweather Jr., and Muhammad Ali. Sylvester Stallone may be brought to WrestleMania Xl, the 40th edition of the supershow, which is set for Philadelphia on April 6 and 7, according to WrestleVotes.
There is interest in working with Stallone “in some form”, according to the report, and WWE sources “hope” that the partnership will work out. However, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the actor informed WWE of a scheduling conflict, suggesting that this optimism may have been misplaced. Until he can or wishes to end the conflict, the actor will not attend WrestleMania.

To the uninitiated, the world of cryptocurrency exists on the outskirts of traditional finance. But every once in a while, more people catch a glimpse. This year’s coveted commercial breaks during the Super Bowl fit the bill, as several now-infamous ads featured stars hawking crypto. Larry David appeared in a spot for Ftx, as did Matt Damon and LeBron James in Crypto.com clips.
By showing up in the most premium real estate in all of TV, and partnering with some of Hollywood’s most trusted brand ambassadors, the crypto firms bought themselves an air of credibility on the path toward legitimacy. Or, at least it appeared they were on their way there, until Ftx — one of the world’s top digital currency-exchange platforms that also issues its own token called Ftt — collapsed when customers made a run on the exchange amid a months-long crypto sell-off.

A federal judge dismissed on Wednesday a lawsuit against celebrity endorsers of the cryptocurrency EthereumMax accusing them of fraudulently misleading their followers into buying Emax tokens only to sell their stakes once its value was inflated.
The proposed class action alleged the celebrity promoters, including Kim Kardashian, Floyd Mayweather and Paul Pierce, conspired with the founders of the cryptocurrency to dupe investors into purchasing Emax tokens using their endorsements in a pump-and-dump scheme.
While the case raises “legitimate concerns” over the ability of celebrities to persuade undiscerning followers to buy “snake oil with unprecedented ease and reach,” U.S. District Judge Michael Fitzgerald found that there’s an expectation for “investors to act reasonably before basing their bets on the zeitgeist of the moment.”

A host of Hollywood and sports celebrities including Tom Brady, Gisele Bündchen and Larry David were named as defendants in a class-action lawsuit against cryptocurrency exchange Ftx, arguing that their celebrity status made them culpable for promoting the firm’s failed business model.
Ftx has been in the public eye for more than a week, after the third-largest cryptocurrency exchange ended up with billions of dollars worth of losses and had to seek bankruptcy protection on Friday. Kim Kardashian will pay 1.26 million and has agreed not to promote any crypto securities for three years to settle charges with the SEC that she didn’t disclose payments for touting assets that were offered and sold by EthereumMX.
Kardashian “agreed to settle the charges, pay 1.26 million in penalties, disgorgement, and interest, and cooperate with the Commission’s ongoing investigation,” the SEC said.
The SEC found that Kardashian failed to disclose that she was paid 250,000 to publish a post on her Instagram account about Emax tokens, the crypto asset security being offered by EthereumMax. Kardashian’s post contained a link to the EthereumMax website, which provided instructions for potential investors to purchase Emax tokens.
“This case is a reminder that, when celebrities or influencers endorse investment opportunities, including crypto asset securities, it doesn’t mean that those investment products are right for all investors,” said SEC Chair Gary Gensler. “We...

Antonio Inoki, whose most famous moment on the world stage was an unorthodox exhibition match against boxing champion Muhammad Ali that aimed to settle which sport could beat the other, died Friday in Japan. He was 79 and no cause of death was released.
Inoki was considered a combat sports trailblazer, but also was a successful entrepreneur and politician in his native Japan, where he was one of the country’s most famous people.
In wrestling-mad Japan, Inoki was considered its most important star, selling out countless arenas and stadiums from the 1970s and on. He was also the first Japanese wrestler to win the WWF championship and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2010.
But all that was a prelude to the Ali exhibition on June 26, 1976, when Inoki took on the champion in a bout that was a precursor to today’s mixed martial arts matches.

London’s O2 Arena was rocking Saturday evening as Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock continued their European stand-up tour, including new commentary on their assaults on stage. We were in the crowd.
Rock, who took the stage first, dedicated a small portion of his lengthy set to talking about Will Smith, during which he said, “f*ck your hostage video,” in an apparent response to the actor’s viral YouTube apology video. Smith posted the apology on YouTube in July. This is the first time Rock has directly addressed the video in public.
As in previous sets, the comedian noted the stinging effect of Smith’s slap: “Yes that sh*t hurt. He played Ali. I can’t even play Floyd Mayweather.”
Rock again referred to Will Smith as “Suge Smith” in reference to the former Death Row Records music executive Suge Knight who is currently serving a 28-year jail sentence for voluntary manslaughter.

Foxx proceeded to recite a number of Trump’s famous catchphrases.
“There’s a lot of great people on both sides. I know Harry O,” said the actor during an appearance on Rap Radar. “He’s a great person. He couldn’t vote for me at the time. Now he can vote for me once he gets out.”
With Snoop Dogg – who stars opposite Foxx in the Netflix film Day Shift – sat beside him, Foxx said: “I love Snoop D O double-g. Great person.”
Asked about his favourite Death Row record, the famous American label that helped launch the careers of Dr Dree and Snoop Dogg in the Nineties, Foxx replied: “All of them. I love Death Row records.

Still, there are some individuals who could probably stand to do a bit more to mitigate their carbon footprint — among them, the super-wealthy who make frequent use of carbon-spewing private jets. Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s net worth could go up a few cool hundred million tonight after he fights YouTube star and amateur boxer Logan Paul — even if the boxing legend doesn’t win.
According to Bleacher Report, the Olympic bronze medalist is expected to take home at least $100 million — a guaranteed $10 million plus 50% of the Showtime pay-per-view revenue (the fight costs $50 to watch on-demand) — after tonight’s exhibition match in Miami against YouTube personality Logan Paul.
The Sun reported estimates that Mayweather could take home as much as $102 million tonight, win or lose. That revenue is likely to push the former five-division world champion’s lifetime earnings up into the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Mayweather retired from boxing (except exhibition bouts) after beating Mma fighter Conor McGregor in 2017. That fight netted Mayweather about $300 million — McGregor took home $100 million despite losing. Despite his habit of retiring and then coming back to professional boxing,...

It’s the Champ vs. the Maverick. On the line: bragging rights.
Undefeated five-time boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. and YouTuber/pugilist Logan Paul confirmed today that they will square off in an exhibition bout on Showtime pay-per-view. It’s set for June 6 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Mayweather Promotions, Fanmio and Showtime are behind the event, which originally had been planned for February 20. No details about rules, rounds or such were announced. Tickets will go on sale next week.
“Marvelous” Marvin Hagler Dies: Popular Middleweight Champ & Boxing Hall Of Famer Was 66
Mayweather, 44, hasn’t fought since a 2018 exhibition against a Japanese kickboxer, and his last pro bout was against UFC legend Conor McGregor. The latter was the most-viewed PPV event in history, topping Mayweather’s 2015 Ko unanimous decision over ex-champ Manny Pacquiao for his 50th career pro victory. He has held title belts in five divisions: junior lightweight,...

Drive-ins continued to hang on stateside as we weathered our fourth weekend of a coast-to-coast — let’s be honest, global — theatrical shutdown.
About 25 drive-ins booked DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls World Tour, and among the grosses we could get our hands on (as Universal isn’t reporting numbers), the weekend looked to be north of $60K led by such drive-ins as the Sacramento 6, the Glendale 9 in Arizona ($12K), the Mission Tiki in Montclair, CA, the Galaxy in Ennis, TX, the Auto in Greenwood, Sc, the Tascosa in Amarillo, TX, the Ocala in Florida, and the Lake Worth, also in Sunshine State, ($2k) being among some of the notables.
As we previously reported, Universal saw an opening VOD day for Trolls World Tour that was 10x its previous champ, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which did $2M-$3M on its first VOD day. That translates into a first day of $20M-$30M, and industry sources estimate that it’s possible Trolls World Tour might have cleared as much as $40M (that’s a soft figure) over three days. The irony in that number is that’s what the sequel was expected to do in a healthy Easter weekend at the box office (sans Covid-19), according to rival-studio estimates. The first Trolls movie, released via 20th Century Fox, on November 4, 2016, made $46.5M over three days stateside. The expectation is that the first-week VOD revenue from Trolls World Tour will exceed the estimated $30M clocked by Avengers: Endgame.
Is this a film distribution experiment to fall in love with?
Let’s see when harder numbers are delivered by Universal — and when we have the liberty to go to the multiplex. Nothing beats getting out, and taking in the big screen, and with all good intentions, Universal originally planned Trolls World Tour that way in hindsight. It took Showtime four months to tell the press that the late-August 2017 PPV fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor made $600M at close to $100 per buy (Trolls World Tour went for $19.99 for a 48-hour rental). Uni’s cut of the weekend VOD gross is estimated by sources to be around 80% (versus a 50%-60% take with exhibition).
How much domestic box office have we lost? In regards to this past Easter weekend, distributors estimates ranged between $150M (if the marketplace was good with Trolls World Tour in play) and $195M.
W can’t compare this April to the past two years for the month — which earned over $1 billion each, per Comscore, driven by Avengers’ movies — the best comparison is April 2017, when The Fate of the Furious led all ticket sales for all titles to a near $816M. That’s about how much we stand to lose this month. Add in the remainder of March, which went unaccounted for, at an estimated $400M, and we’re looking at over a $1.2 billion loss at the domestic box office by the end of April.

Demi Lovato has taken on one of the most vocally demanding gigs in the business. A week after performing her new single, "Anyone," at the Grammy Awards, the 27-year-old singer nailed the national anthem at the 2020 Super Bowl in Miami on Feb. 2. Lovato follows Gladys Knight, who sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" last year, while Chloe and Halle Bailey delivered an ethereal performance of "America the Beautiful."
The Super Bowl wasn't Lovato's first time performing the national anthem: she previously performed it during the 2015 World Series, and again at the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor boxing match in 2017. It did, however, mark a significant moment for Lovato, who has made an inspiring comeback since her hospitalization from an apparent overdose in 2018.
The big game certainly isn't lacking in stars, with Jennifer Lopez and Shakira performing the coveted halftime show. Perhaps Lovato will join them on stage? Hey, crazier things have happened.
