The unholy union of rock music and horror is alive and well in Art of a Hit, a psychological horror movie set to begin production soon according to Deadline.
Formerly titled Excelsis, Art of a Hit is set in 2003 and “follows a bygone rock band as they journey to a 1000-year-old French chateau to record with a reclusive super-producer in hopes of rebooting their career. But as tensions rise and tempers flare, they realize they are up against more than just the pressure to succeed.”
Deadline reports that “Indie rock pioneer Adam Lasus is music directing the ’90s alternative-heavy soundtrack alongside music supervisor Linda Cohen (Licorice Pizza).”
That exciting tidbit not only highlights that music will be prominent to this rock horror story, but it’s 2003 eschews the conventional ’80s hair metal movement frequently explored in this niche subgenre. I suppose the real question at this point is just how...

You’re welcome, America. Yesterday, Den of Geek put Dreamworks and Netflix’s feet to the fire, requesting…nay, demanding that their animated adventure story Tales of Arcadia not end with the third installment, Wizards.
Wizards is the final installment of #TalesofArcadia…unless we can heckle @Netflix and @Dreamworks into more. https://t.co/w7XLgdPBR3

And just under 24 hours later, both corporate entities caved! Dreamworks and Netflix announced today that the Tales of Arcadia saga is getting a grand movie finale. Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans is set to premiere sometime in 2021.
“Team Trollhunters committed, about a decade ago, to try and push the boundaries of 3D CGI animation made for TV. We outlined a vast trilogy of interconnecting mythology and characters that we always hoped could culminate with a massive ‘all-stars reunion’,” creator and executive producer Guillermo del Toro said in a statement.

Fox is developing a music comedy series that hails from the Jackal Group, Variety has learned.
The project is titled “An American Band.” The single-camera comedy is about the harmonic and discordant adventures of The Wyldes, a diverse and dysfunctional Northern California family that can’t get a single thing right with each other, except for the music they’ve been making for the last 25 years as a multi-generational family band.
Fox has given the project a script commitment with a penalty attached. Jay Lacopo is the writer and executive producer, with Gail Berman and Joe Earley executive producing via Jackal Group. Jackal Group will produce along with 20th Century Fox Television.
Lacopo previously partnered with Jackal Group when he created the Fox sitcom “Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life.” The show starred Jack Cutmore Scott, Meaghan Rath, James Earl, Charlie Saxton, Liza Lapira, and Justin Bartha. Lacopo is repped by Wme.

Guillermo del Toro is a visionary. The director behind “Pan’s Labyrinth,” “Hellboy,” “Pacific Rim,” and more has never failed to astound us with the visual presentation of his pieces. So creative and bold is the detail-orientated filmmaker that his work was recently on display at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art as a temporary exhibit.
No one has ever questioned del Toro’s eye, so his first foray as a creator and director in the animated world set expectations fairly high. Sure, children’s entertainment doesn’t get the same kind of buzz as its adult counterparts — when was the last time you got excited about a kids show, other than “The Adventures of Puss in Boots”? — and del Toro’s first credited creation for the small screen (“The Strain”) didn’t exactly set the world on fire. But “Trollhunters” promised an opportunity to see how the director...

Guillermo del Toro’s kaleidoscopic imagination is on full display in Trollhunters, a rich gift of an animated series arriving on Netflix later this month. It’s in the depiction of trolls as hulking and metamorphic (yet predictably endearing) creatures, birthed seemingly from the earth itself, shoulders erupting in sprouts of grass or smoothly carved from dark obsidian. It’s in the visualization of said trolls’ subterranean world, a crystalline treasure-trove kingdom that draws upon every vivid shade the animators’ palettes had available (and likely created a few). And yet del Toro’s approach and ideology are most evident not just in those striking optical executions but also in the sense of astonishment and joy with which the series itself regards them.
Trollhunters is rightly a thing of youthful wonderment, a show that’s enamored of its own candy-colored vision and fully expects...

1. “Trollhunters” Season 1 (available December 23)
Why Should I Watch It? Two big reasons: First, the director of “Pan’s Labyrinth,” Guillermo del Toro, created “Trollhunters,” an animated event series about a teenager who discovers a mystical amulet that unveils a secret civilization of trolls beneath his hometown. If the Oscar nominee himself isn’t enough, there’s another creative force — in addition to the impressive voice cast of Kelsey Grammer, Ron Perlman and Charlie Saxton — to pay attention to: Said teenager is voiced by Anton Yelchin, in what’s being billed his final role. After debuting two episodes at New York Comic-Con in October, del Toro said he never even discussed replacing Yelchin. “We didn’t go into a meeting,” del Toro said. “We didn’t have a conference. […] He was a great guy to work with, he was proud of what he did, we were proud of what he did.

New York Comic Con has once again rushed by in a giant, fun, crazy blur, and although I didn’t get to nearly all the things I was hoping to, I did have a rockin’ time and see some really cool things I can share.
The first of these were a few great panels I landed seats for, including, as is my tradition, the Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles panel. If you don’t know I love the current Tmnt, then what are you, new here? But seriously, I love it. And each panel I have gone to brings something new and different.
This panel (with Andrea Romano (voice director), Eric Bauza (Tiger Claw), Kevin Michael Richardson (The Shredder), Greg Cipes (Mikey), Rob Paulsen (Donnie), and Ciro Nieli (Executive Producer)) was particularly fun, because one of the things they did was a live read of episode #420, “The Super Shredder,” which...

We've got the first trailer for Guillermo del Toro's animated Netflix series Trollhunters. I liked what I saw in this trailer, and it looks like it could be an entertaining and fun show! I will definitely be watching it with my kids!
This is one of the last projects that Anton Yelchin worked on before he tragically died, and it's a bittersweet feeling hearing his voice again in a new project. The show also has a talented supporting cast that includes Charlie Saxton as Toby, Kelsey Grammer as Blinky, Ron Perlman as Bular, Steven Yeun, Jonathan Hyde, Lexi Madrano, Amy Landecker, Fred Tatasciore, and even Del Toro.

This Christmas, illustrious filmmaker Guillermo del Toro will go kid-friendly with Trollhunters, a fantastical new animated adventure series bound for Netflix.
Emerging from a prolonged development cycle, the del Toro and DreamWorks romp made a big slash at New York Comic-Con this past weekend, unveiling the delightful first trailer and key art – those in attendance were even treated to a screening of the pilot episode. The late Anton Yelchin heads up Trollhunters as Jim Lake Jr. who, along with his two best friends, unearths a startling mystery deep beneath the fictional town of Arcadia. It involves trolls both good and evil, as you’ve likely already gathered, and del Toro’s budding new series essentially places those two worlds – two worlds connected by a strange amulet discovered by Yelchin’s Jim – on a collision course.
Not to be confused with André Øvredal’s low-budget Norwegian flick of the same name,...

The Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life TV show seems to have been cancelled by Fox. The show, starring Jack Cutmore-Scott, Meaghan Rath, James Earl, Charlie Saxton, Justin Bartha, and Liza Lapira, is off the Fox schedule. A rerun of The Simpsons, "Lisa the Veterinarian," has now been scheduled to air in Cooper Barrett's 7:30pm timeslot, on May 8th. Fox ordered 13 episodes of Cooper Barrett's Guide but tonight's episode, "How to Survive Your Parents' Visit," guest starring Alan Ruck, Jane Kaczmarek, and Juicy J (Jordan Houston), is only the 10th to make it to air. It could be Cooper Barrett's TV series finale. Watch three previews, below. The first season finale was originally scheduled for May 8th, but the preemptions have ruled that out.
