Exclusive: In a competitive situation we hear, Universal has snapped up a feature pitch from Intrepid Pictures based on the 1993 Christopher Pike novel The Season of Passage, a science fiction horror novel set on Mars.
The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor creator Mike Flanagan will co-write the screenplay with James Flanagan, with the former set to direct and produce along with Intrepid Pictures producing partner Trevor Macy. Plot details are being kept secret; however, the Season of Passage centers around celebrity Dr. Lauren Wagner who was involved in a manned expedition to Mars. The whole world admired and respected her. But Lauren knew fear. Inside―voices entreating her to love them. Outside―the mystery of the missing group that had gone before her. The dead group. But were they simply dead? Or something else?
Melinda Nishioka and Pike will serve as EPs on the feature.

I. Marlene King has signed a new multi-year deal at 20th Century Fox Television, exiting her longtime studio home of Warner Bros. Television.
King will develop, write, produce, and direct new projects for network, cable, and streaming under the new deal via her Long Lake Media banner. Long Lake’s executive vice president of development Lauren Wagner will continue in that role with the company as part of the deal.
King recently launched the spinoff series “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists” on Freeform, which she created and will continue to executive produce. King previously developed the series adaptation of “Pretty Little Liars,” which proved to be a major hit on Freeform and ran for seven seasons and nearly 200 episodes.
“Terence [Carter, Evp of Development, Comedy and Drama] and I were obsessed with bringing Marlene to 20th because she’s such a special talent– her voice is so specific and wildly entertaining and relevant,” said 20th Century Fox...

This is not the only literary adaptation in the works at The CW.
We love City of Ghosts, V.E. Schwab's middle grade series about a girl who can see ghosts who is dragged to the most haunted places in the world by her ghost-hunter TV personality parents. Now, it's in development to get a CW TV adaptation!
According to Variety, The CW is developing the novel that will be a series as a TV show. If eventually picked up, the series will be a one-hour drama. Notably, The CW has aged protagonist Cassidy Blake up to the network's key demo age. In the books, Cassidy is 12; in the proposed CW adaptation, she will be college-aged.
According to the news announcement, Cassidy moves to Scotland not with her parents, but to study paranormal psychology at the University of Edinburgh "in hopes of learning more about her strange connection to the afterlife.
