We find out characters approximately a year after the events of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Mikael Blomkvist (Michael Nyqvist) has gone back to work for the magazine Millenium, and Lisbeth Salander (Noomi Rapace) has decided to travel across the world. Back in Sweden, Mikeal begins work on a story concerning human trafficking and the sex trade with a new journalist named Dag (Hans Christian Thulin). However, after Dag and his girlfriend end up murdered, Lisbeth is the sole suspect. Shortly after, it's found that her sexually abusive guardian Nils Bjurman (Peter Andersson) was murdered with the same gun. Being framed for a triple homicide, Lisbeth goes into hiding, and Mikael goes to work trying to prove her innocence.

In early 2009, I recall browsing Amazon for some new reading material. I was after something different, something new, and by an author I had not yet read material from. Topping the bestsellers at the site that month was a series of three novels from a Swedish author named Stieg Larsson.
