A TV documentary titled Barbie Uncovered and an adaptation of Homer’s classic The Odyssey starring Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche are among the titles to receive cash during the latest round of U.K. Global Screen Fund awards.
Financed through the UK government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport (Dcms), the latest round handed out over £1.2 million in cash awards through the fund’s International Co-production strand, supporting UK producers to work as partners on international co-productions. To date, the strand has now awarded over £5 million to 33 co-productions.
This latest round of awards sees the UK co-producing with 12 territories and will be the first time the fund has supported collaborations with India and Finland. The funding will also support partnerships with Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, France, Italy, Greece, Germany, Ireland, Canada, and New Zealand.

Exclusive: Germany’s Rtl is preparing to premiere a local version of canine competition series America’s Top Dog.
The six-part Top Dog Germany (Der Beste Hund Deutschlands) will premiere on July 23 after Rtl secured the format from A+E Networks Global Content Sales. America’s Top Dog airs on A&e in the U.S. and has run for two seasons to date.
Originally created by Big Fish Entertainment, the German series features dogs and their owners competing on a supersized canine obstacle course. The teams are tested on speed, agility, and teamwork by completing a number of challenges against the clock. The trusting interaction between humans and animals is crucial.
Top Dog was optioned in the UK and Ireland last year by Two Rivers Media, run by former Stv Productions boss Alan Clements.

I hear that the former NBC Universal exec has scored a high-profile new job at Scottish broadcaster Stv. Mortimer is set to become content chief at Scottish broadcaster Stv’s production division. As MD of Stv Productions, he will oversee the company’s growth strategy and build on hit formats such as Antiques Road Trip, Celebrity Antiques Road Trip and Catchphrase.
He will be London-based and will work closely with recently installed CEO Simon Pitts, who in May, unveiled a three-year growth strategy that includes investment in production, the launch of a new formats unit and new digital team.
