Activision may be gearing up for a grand reveal at E3 next month, but that doesn’t mean the studio can’t grant backstage passes to budding Guitar Hero Live fans in order to tease some details ahead of time.
Part and parcel of the series’ lucrative success a generation ago was the songs featured on the set list, and developer FreeStyleGames – creative minds behind 2009’s spinoff DJ Hero – is ensuring that Live‘s soundtrack is just as memorable, with the likes of Ed Sheeran, Fall Out Boy and Rage Against The Machine toplining the game’s early set list.
That said, the music scene isn’t what it was a decade ago when the franchise first debuted, and Guitar Hero Live will reflect the new tones and tastes of 2015, all the while retaining some old school classics for good measure.

The most shocking part of this story: that no one remade "The Howling" before this. Upstart production company Emaji Entertainment has announced that they're "rebooting" Joe Dante's 1981 werewolf classic "as the first in a series of films based upon well known film properties," which is exactly what we need more of. The original film starred the incomparable Dee Wallace as a TV news anchorwoman who is sent to a retreat after a near-fatal encounter with a serial killer and begins to suspect that the residents there may not be what they seem. Spoiler alert: they're hairier than they first appear. The film is notable for being released at a high point for werewolf movies, as John Landis's "An American Werewolf in London" was put out the same year. Both featured groundbreaking transformation sequences -- a 21-year-old Rob Bottin was responsible for the grisly third-act transformation in "The Howling,...

Emaji Entertainment is stepping into the world of werewolves with a reboot of Joe Dante's The Howling and embarking into the realm of the wickedly weird with a reimagining of 1998's StrangeLand, which starred Dee Snider (who also penned the screenplay) as Captain Howdy. The StrangeLand reboot is tentatively titled StrangeLand: Disciple, and Snider looks to be involved with the project.

Mortal Kombat X arrives next week, and here's the launch trailer to hose the blood off...
Fighting fans are eagerly awaiting the latest Mortal Kombat after the series went through a renaissance of sorts with the ninth release. With its excellent story mode, and a new, brilliant fighting engine, it was the best Mk yet, and number ten looks like it's going to up the stakes even more.
We've seen plenty of details about the game throughout the lead up to the game's arrival, including the new class system that endows each character with multiple variations and move sets, and the notorious, and downright gross fatalities, which should be the most graphic yet. It's also going to boast a new online component, in the form of a persistent online contest.
The story is also clearly going to be a big focus, as you can see from the launch trailer below,...

Check out the fun TV spot for the upcoming Mortal Kombat X!
The TV spot is fun, and it really showcases how the fans are. A new Mortal Kombat? We all better go check it out!
Beyond that it doesn't really show much gameplay, just little snippets, and I don't think there is too much hidden, but I could be wrong. The trailer does feature System of a Down for music, which is neat, but has some awkward moments.

Produced by Datari Turner, and to be directed by Thomas Mignone, best known for his previous feature film "On The Doll," as well as several award-winning music videos for bands like Slipknot, Mudvayne, System Of A Down, and Sepultura, the del Rio production will star Zulay Henao in the title role. As if Jordan Belfort's office speeches in Wolf of Wall Street weren't ridiculous enough, someone combined 30 seconds of the movie with System of a Down's "Chop Suey"—and the two go together perfectly. The mash-up, created by Marca Blanca and discovered by the A.V. Club, features Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) screaming into a microphone, wildly beating his chest, and, of course, showing off his dance moves all to the not-so-sweet sounds of System of a Down's 2001 Grammy-nominated hit.

Some mash-up clips combine two pop-culture entities to such a beautiful extent that they actually elevate them. And that.s exactly what Marca Blanca.s combination of System Of A Down.s 2001 track Chop Suey and Martin Scorsese.s The Wolf Of Wall Street does. Don.t believe me? Check it out below. It.s a wonderful way to spend 30 seconds of your day. God bless the internet. There.s something delightfully tribalistic about both the heavy metal track and Marty.s ode to capitalism gone sour that means they perfectly entwine together. Of course Leonardo DiCaprio, who played Jordan Belfort in the 2013 drama, takes center stage as his whelping and barbaric screams to encourage his Wall Street troops makes them all look like a hoard of gorillas preparing for war. The clip manages to make Leo look as if he.s screaming System Of A Down lead singer Serj...

Hidden behind the drum kit in this Sum 41 soundcheck video is an 8-year-old by the name of Jonah Rocks. According to his Facebook page, the tiny, tenacious drummer had the opportunity to play with the Canadian rock band earlier this year, jamming out to "Still Waiting" like a pro.
Jonah has been playing the drums since the age of three and skyrocketed to viral fame a year later when his rendition of "Toxicity" by System Of A Down hit YouTube. Since then the talented young rocker has met and played with Travis Barker (Blink 182), Jay Weinberg (Against Me), and Branden Steineckert (Rancid).
We applaud Jonah for his preferred taste in new American punk rock. For more of his adorable drum skills, check out the video below, which shows the prodigy at the tender age of 6 playing along to Foo Fighters. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Last month, not long after the Occupy Wall Street movement celebrated its first anniversary, Tom Morello and System of a Down's Serj Tankian rolled out their hard-rocking protest anthem "We Are the 99%."
With its mosh-friendly riffs and chant-friendly chorus, it's a long-awaited return to form by the once (and future?) guitarist of Rage Against the Machine.
Of course, it's also a reminder that in the dozen years since Rage disbanded, no artist has been quite as politically angry despite the one-two punch of the War on Terror and Great Recession. But we apparently remembered wrong, because despite a relatively lower level of outrage, a surprising number of great political songs have indeed emerged from this messy new millennium.

"We are the 99 percent!" call and answer Rise Against vocalist Tim McIlrath and System of a Down singer Serj Tankian with a crowd of like-minded Occupy protestors from Zuccotti Park and Liberty Square. That's the chorus for, not surprisingly, "We Are the 99 Percent," a new rock protest anthem from former Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello.
"I wanted to do a huge riff-rock anthem," Morello told Rolling Stone, which premiered the song on Thursday. "It would feel like the excitement of the global Occupy Wall Street movement."
Morello, McIlrath and Tankian teamed for the track just last week, after Morello was "re-energized" by the Occupy movement's one-year anniversary. Fans of Rage Against the Machine will immediately notice Morello's signature guitar sound, which could accurately be described as a boomerang being shot out of a cannon.
Morello has had quite a busy few months. In August, he wrote an editorial...

Revolving around the events that saw 30 Seconds to Mars sued by their own record label back in 2008 for $30m., Artifact is one of the greatest music documentaries ever made, and an important documentary for our times.
The music industry has been struggling for the best part of a decade with technology developing at a faster rate than it can keep up with, and this documentary gives an honest, frank, and inside look at the antiquated system that bands are faced with when they’re attached to a major label.
It’s easy to think of our favourite, globally-successful artists as wealthy individuals, but Artifact shows us that often the opposite is true. When they attempted to exercise their legal right to excuse themselves from their contract, Virgin/Emi went on the offensive and sued 30 Seconds to Mars for $30m., claiming further that the label was owed $1.7m. from the band.

On Sept 4, 2011, System of a Down, a Grammy Award-winning Armenian-American band from Southern California, dropped its breakthrough record, Toxicity. It was number one a week later when, well, you know.
System of a Down has always infused its heavy music with heady political messages, but in the hyper-patriotic climate of post-9/11 America, the band's outspoken criticism of the War on Terror and the Bush regime didn't sit well with many. More than a decade later, Osama Bin Laden is dead, America's first African-American president is up for re-election, and after declaring an indefinite hiatus in 2006, the band has reformed for a reunion tour and discovered their socio-political protest music remains as relevant as ever.
System frontman Serj Tankian tells Huffington Post that despite huge expectations, President Obama couldn't deliver on the sweeping reform he promised on the campaign trail.

Los Angeles – Few rock bands that emerged during the '90s nu-metal phase still exist today and practically none have the amount of respect and admiration the Deftones receive from their musical peers. Countless bands cite the Sacramento-based group as a big influence on their music.
Saturday night (July 28) the Deftones stopped by the Troubadour in Los Angeles – an incredibly tiny, sweaty 300-capacity club – to perform their first proper show in nearly a year and their only solo date before heading out on a co-headlining amphitheater tour with System of a Down prior to their new, still-untitled album dropping on October 9. Soad drummer John Dolmayan and bassist Shavo Odadjian were both in attendance, enjoying the set alongside Dillinger Escape Plan frontman Greg Puciato.

It’s been weeks since Tupac Shakur was brought back to life in video form via a hologram at this year’s Coachella Music Festival, and the eye-popping technology has brought out both enthusiasts and detractors of the idea. Queen fall firmly in the latter category and want to make it clear that you won’t be seeing a digital Freddie Mercury on stage with the legendary band anytime soon.
Queen drummer Roger Taylor says the group will never be performing alongside a holographic image of Mercury, and instead prefer a flesh-and-blood frontman. The group recently brought in “American Idol”-alum Adam Lambert to provide vocals for a new tour this summer.
Questioned by Billboard, Taylor said the idea of a Mercury hologram “did not sit well” with him and that you’ll never see him onstage appearing alongside one.
“I don’t think I want to.

It’s clear by looking at festival lineups that nostalgia is in like never before in the music scene. (Why else could Cash Money sign Limp Bizkit?) And now fans of '90s alt-metal have plenty to celebrate with System of a Down announcing a two-week summer jaunt with their old chums, the Deftones.
The two outfits first teased the new tour through the trading of tweets (above) by holding up each other’s backstage passes in photos, but now the cat is officially out of the bag with the two groups hitting the road for the first half of August.
System of a Down notably went on hiatus in 2006, but made their live return for a round of some West Coast dates last year, but this upcoming Deftones tour will mark their first stops in the states since those few shows. Soad hasn’t released any...

New York – It was three hours since show time on Friday (April 13) and the crowd at the Irving Plaza had grown impatient. Even though the strikingly blue-lit venue had been appetized by the likes of opening acts The Parlor Mob, The Blackboard Nails and The Hollywood Kills, the jam-packed crowd were ready for The Pretty Reckless.
Irving's lights shaded black and each of the four-member act individually took to the stage for their latest "The Medicine Tour" show, but the obvious avalanche of applause was for Taylor Momsen, the 18-year-old actress-turned-rocker. In a matching black dress, jacket and knee-high spiked boots, the frontwoman took hold of the mic and began what would be a 12-song set that would further erase any remnants of her former good girl-turned-bad-turned-good character on "Gossip Girl," beginning with the band's first tune, "Hit Me Like A Man," the same title as their recently-released Ep.

Every now and then you to get to listen to an album that is a real breath of fresh air in today’s often stagnant music scene. Allow me to introduce you to Antlered Man, a London based four piece about to release their debut album, Giftes 1 & 2. To get an idea of the Antlered Man sound, take one huge dollop of System Of A Down, throw in the scuzzy basslines of The Melvins and Neurosis, add a bit of grunge, a bit of Porcupine Tree-esque prog and top it all off with a Mike Patton garnish. Delicious.

And so we have the second of our lists. Myself and, fellow WhatCulture music writer, Rhys Milsom have compiled another list of 10 albums to watch out for this year, this time focussing the latter half of the year and some of the releases with unspecified release dates that are due for dropping this year.
Judging by the releases on display, the end half of this year is going to be of just as high a calibre as that of the first half; with some classics in the making, big artists returning, up and comers proving their worth and make or break time for other artists.
2012 looks set to be an exciting time for music new and old, so at least if the world does end come December, musically speaking at least, we’ll be going out with a bang, not a whimper.
Marilyn Manson – Born Villain (early 2012)
Marilyn Manson needs no introduction.

Death Cab For Cutie are about to tackle the second leg of their North American tour behind their seventh album, Codes and Keys, and the group is vocally keen on the prospect of a string quartet backing them on tour.
“It would be really fun to take Magik*Magik Orchestra out,” Death Cab guitarist/producer Chris Walla told Billboard. “But unfortunately, it is kind of a nightmare to try and figure it out.”
Magik*Magik is the small San Fransisco orchestra that provided Dcfc with string accompaniment on two of their new album’s tracks: “Codes and Keys” and “Stay Young, Go Dancing.” Magik even performed the tunes alongside Death Cab during their appearance on VH1’s Storytellers earlier this year.
Walla continued lamenting, “You can make a living or you can play with an orchestra. They’re totally mutually exclusive – you almost can’t do one and the other.

Brian S- First off, who are your comic book influences, artwork and writing styles?
Ar: I grew up on artists like Mike Zeck (The Punisher), Frank Miller (Sin City) and Dave McKean (Arkham Asylum) and later on got into Bill Sienkiewicz (Elektra), Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night) and Ashley Wood (Zombies Vs. Robots). For writing, I guess the main one would be Stephen King, growing up.

One of my endearing memories of the original Scream trilogy is Wes Craven’s effective blending of music and horror to heighten the scares and the mood.
Of course there’s his genius use of John Carpenter’s Halloween score in the party scene, but I’m also talking about the signature Red Right Hand tune from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds that is such an odd, kooky number that it fit the darkly comic atmosphere of Woodsboro perfectly. I think in the sequels it became Dewey’s (David Arquette) signature theme, perfectly matching his B-movie cop qualities!
I particularly remember Scream 3 having a kick-ass soundtrack too. The opening murder of Cotton Weary’s girlfriend to the tune of Creed’s What If started off a little obsession in me with the band, (also look out for “Is This The End?“, a somber tune at the end of the...
