It’s disappointing news for fans of the Showtime comedy series I Love That For You, as the cable network has canceled the show after just one season. Created by Vanessa Bayer and Jeremy Beiler, I Love That For You premiered on May 1, 2022, and was the last current scripted series whose fate remained up in the air at Showtime. According to Deadline, there was an internal effort to get the series renewed, but it, unfortunately, wasn’t meant to be. “I Love That for You has completed its run on Showtime,” a Showtime spokesperson said in a statement. “We want to thank Vanessa, Jeremy and Jessi [Klein], along with the incredible cast and crew for their hard work and wish them the best going forward.” The show starred Bayer as Joanna Gold, an aspiring host for the shopping channel Svn, who, in order to keep her job, lies about her childhood cancer returning.

“I Love That for You” will not move forward with a second season at Showtime. The network has canceled the comedy series executive produced by Vanessa Bayer, Jeremy Beiler and Jessi Klein after one season.
“’I Love That for You’ has completed its run on Showtime,” a spokesperson for the network disclosed on Wednesday evening. “We want to thank Vanessa, Jeremy and Jessi, along with the incredible cast and crew for their hard work and wish them the best going forward.”
The news comes nearly a year after “I Love That for You” completed its pilot season, airing a finale on June 19, 2022. The first season was composed of eight episodes, which broadcast weekly on Sunday evenings.
While Showtime is terminating its relationship with “I Love That for You,” the production is open to search for a new home by shopping to other networks.

Showtime has made a decision on its last remaining current scripted series whose fate had been up in the air, opting not to pick up a second season of comedy I Love That for You. The two serve as executive producers alongside showrunner Jessi Klein and Michael Showalter.

Actor Matt Rogers is trying to bring a little hope to fans of I Love That For You, the freshman Showtime comedy that is from and stars Vanessa Bayer.
Speaking recently with the Earwolf podcast TV, I Say w/ Ashley Ray, Rogers revealed that season two has already been written but the show has yet to receive a renewal. It’s the only comedy series on Showtime right now and is among multiple shows waiting for pickups.
“I know that they have written it. And now it’s a thing where the Viacom Paramount of it all, like there were some changes,” Rogers, who plays assistant Darcy Leeds, explained to Ray. “I know that there is a lot of love for show. I just don’t know whether or not it’s being greenlit yet. What I would say to everyone is if you love the show, let them know.

While no one would mistake the endearing Showtime comedy “I Love That For You” for a documentary, co-creator and star Vanessa Bayer drew heavily from her own unabashed love for home shopping television. Here, let her tell you.
“The way the hosts talk found to be so mesmerizing,” Bayer explained to IndieWire. “The way that they would touch the products. The whole world. How much fun it was, how glamorous the hosts were, and how they could sort of talk about anything for such a long time. I was always really mesmerized as a child. I found it to be really comforting to watch and sort of like an escape. I just absolutely love it.”

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the I Love That For You Season 1 finale, “Shop Cancer’s Ass.”] Vanessa Bayer brings her perfectly cringe comedic stylings to Showtime‘s I Love That For You, a series inspired by her own experiences with childhood cancer. Created by Bayer and Jeremy Beiler (Saturday Night Live), the debut season of I Love That For You proved itself to be a singular comedy with a unique brand of humor and drama. Bayer’s Joanna Gold’s dreams come true when the home shopping superfan lands a job at the Special Value Network, where Joanna’s idol, Jackie Stilton (played by an excellent Molly Shannon), reigns supreme as the most successful host and Jenifer Lewis‘s CEO Patricia Cochran is the newest horrible boss. To keep her job, Joanna says her cancer has come back. The lie spirals out of Joanna’s control until she ultimately comes clean at the end of...

Vanessa Bayer takes the lead in more ways that one on her new Showtime comedy series “I Love That for You.” The Emmy-nominated actress created the show with her old “Saturday Night Live” buddy Jeremy Beiler, telling the story of a woman named Joanna who survived childhood cancer and lies about having it again to save her job at a home shopping network. Despite the trickiness of this concept, the writers approach the story tactfully, while also delivering on laughs. “It was definitely different from what I’ve done in the past to be the lead and to be writing it and doing all of that stuff at the same time,” says Bayer in an exclusive new interview for Gold Derby. “It was definitely a lot of responsibility, but it was also really fun.” Watch the full video chat above.

Writer/producer Jeremy Beiler found the world of home shopping to be a treasure trove for comedy with his new Showtime series, “I Love That for You.” Vanessa Bayer, who co-created the show with Beiler, stars as a socially awkward woman named Joanna, who successfully keeps her new job at a home shopping network after lying that her childhood cancer has returned. The series blends Joanna grappling with the ramifications of her lie with the heightened elements of a QVC-style network. “There’s something inherently funny about the presentational aspect of it,” says Beiler in an exclusive new interview for Gold Derby. “Any time in the show when things get too heavy or too serious or too bummer-y, it’s nice to be able to cut to a sequence where somebody is in the kitchen selling hotcakes that have emoji faces.” Watch the video webchat above.

It’s funny how you can think you know everything about a person, until you learn that you don’t. Vanessa Bayer and Jeremy Beiler wrote together on “Saturday Night Live” for years, producing the beaming, off-kilter characters Bayer became known for during her time as a cast member. Yet not once during those 2 a.m. writing sessions did they realize their shared passion for the home shopping network.

Showtime comedy “I Love That for You” traces a straight line back to “Saturday Night Live.” Not only did former “SNL” star Vanessa Bayer create the show with former “SNL” writer Jeremy Beiler, and Bayer’s co-star is “SNL” veteran Molly Shannon, but the relationship between the actresses’ characters also looks a lot like… Shannon and Bayer’s, back when they were on “SNL.”
They didn’t overlap on the show, but it remained a shared experience. The actresses grew up 10 minutes away from each other in Cleveland suburbs and brought their Midwestern sensibilities to the venerable comedy show.

The world of home-shopping networks is one that seems ripe for comedy; the scenes in “Hacks,” for instance, in which Deborah Vance goes on television to hawk garments and jewelry are some of that show’s most cleverly observed. The challenge, as with all things in fiction, is getting the details right.
That’s the first place that “I Love That for You,” Showtime’s new comedy set at a fictional TV channel, falls short. Starring and co-created by “Saturday Night Live” standout Vanessa Bayer, “I Love That for You” weaponizes its central presence’s askew vision of life as a series of petty humiliations, most easily borne by making oneself the butt of the joke. But everything Bayer’s character faces at work seems less surreal than unreal; the show lacks the grain and texture of actual office life or a recognizable media environment.

Vanessa Bayer says being on “SNL” is not wholly unlike doing QVC, where her “I Love That for You” character works. Well, that Showtime character technically works at the ficticious Svn — which is basically QVC without Showtime getting sued by QVC.
Bayer said that “a lot of the live-tv elements from ‘SNL’ do cross over” into her new gig.
“With ‘SNL,’ you always want your sketches to make it into the live show. You never really know if they’re going to make it in. You always want your sketches to be earlier in the show because they’re safer there and less likely to get cut,” the show’s co-creator, executive producer and star said Tuesday at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Winter Press Tour. “With home shopping, it’s a similar thing… you want to have better time slots.”

The WGA Awards boosted a pair of movie screenplays into Oscar frontrunner status on Saturday night, handing its marquee Original Screenplay award to Bong Joon Ho and Han Jin Won for Neon’s Parasite, and its Adapted Screenplay award to Taika Wiatiti for Searchlight’s Jojo Rabbit. Both of the winning scripts are nominated for Oscars on February 9.
This year the guild wasted no time in its 72nd edition, awarding its marquee prizes early in the night in simultaneous ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York. Many of the film-side nominees gathered in the Edison Ballroom in NYC, so as to make the shorter jump to the BAFTAs which are Sunday in London.
Last year, the guild did not line up with Oscar’s screenwriting prizes, awarding Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade in original screenplay and Nicole Holofcener and Jeff Whitty’s Can You Ever Forgive Me? in adapted. Green...

Showtime has picked up to pilot Big Deal, a half-hour single-camera comedy co-created by and starring Emmy-nominated Saturday Night Live alumna Vanessa Bayer. The Big Sick helmer Michael Showalter will direct the pilot for the project, from Annapurna TV, which had been in development at Showtime for a year.
Emmy-winning former Inside Amy Schumer head writer Jessi Klein serves as showrunner on Big Deal, which Bayer co-created with former SNL writer Jeremy Beiler.
Big Deal is a grounded comedy in which a woman (Bayer) overcomes childhood leukemia to achieve her lifelong dream of landing a job as a QVC host.
Bayer’s character is inspired by the comedy actress’ own personal story as a survivor of childhood leukemia, which she was diagnosed with in her freshman year of high school.
Bayer, Beiler and Klein executive produce Big Deal with Showalter and Jordana Mollick via Showalter Semi-Formal Prods., which has had...
