Doris Schröder-Köpf was born on August 5, 1963 in Neuburg an der Donau, Germany. She has been married to Gerhard Schröder since October 1997. They have three children.
Fourth wife of German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder and German First Lady since
1998. They have two children: Klara, her daughter from a prior
relationship, and Viktoria, an adopted girl from Russia.
Worked as a journalist for German tabloid "Bild" and news magazine
"Focus".
In February 2005, she was awarded "Woman of the Year 2004" by celebrity
magazine "Bunte" for her charity work.
Adopted another child from Russia, a boy called Gregor, with her husband Gerhard Schröder (2006).
Before the 2005 elections in Germany, she attracted attention by attacking her husband's political rival Angela Merkel, claiming Merkel wasn't competent in family politics because she didn't have any children. However, Merkel succeeded Gerhard Schröder as German Chancellor.
