While he rarely wrote tunes for other artists in the 1970s, John Lennon co-wrote David Bowie’s “Fame.” The tune’s other writer said that it was inspired by a 1960s doo-wop classic. Today, that doo-wop song is far less famous than “Fame” is. The connection between the two songs is surprising because they don’t sound like each other very much.
David Bowie and John Lennon wrote ‘Fame’ with an artist who worked with James Brown
“Fame” was co-written by John, Bowie, and frequent Bowie collaborator Carlos Alomar. During a 2020 interview with The Intercept, Alomar said the tune was based on a riff from The Flare’s “Foot Stompin’.” “Taking from my past history of working with James Brown, I decided to approach it like that,” he recalled.
“I’d thought of putting some licks down and by that time David had showed up with John Lennon and [his girlfriend] May Pang,...

Two classic rock stars helped write David Bowie’s “Fame”: Bowie himself and John Lennon. Looking back on the song, Bowie said it was inspired by John’s attitude toward art. Both rock stars were part of a border movement that shook the art world to its core. Notably, “Fame” was much more popular in the United States than it was in the United Kingdom.
David Bowie’s ‘Fame’ was inspired by a conversation he had with John Lennon
The three writers behind “Fame” were Bowie, John, and Carlos Alomar. Alomar is a rock and soul musician known for collaborating with Bowie and Mick Jagger. According to American Songwriter, Bowie gave an interview to MTV in 1995. In it, he discussed working on the song with John. “It came out of a conversation that we had,” Bowie recalled.

Superchunk won’t let a little thing like the brittle and cruel nature of human mortality get in the way of a good punk song. On their latest single, “Everybody Dies,” frontman Mac McCaughan pays tribute to the many musicians who have passed away in the last decade and how jarring their loss has been. “I was happy in a world of wishful thinking and outright lies,” he sings, “but I’m beginning to think that everybody dies.” The music recalls Superchunk’s pogo-ready, hyper-enough Nineties rockers, paired with some Clash-like “whoaas.

For Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy plunged deep into the mind and physicality of an iconic scientist that irrevocably changed our world. At once complex, conflicting, stylish and brilliant, Oppenheimer’s life and work is not an immediately obvious choice for an epic blockbuster subject. And yet, Christopher Nolan’s decision to ask his longtime collaborator Murphy to step into the physicist’s shoes resulted in a cinematic experience that would outstrip every superhero movie at the box office last year. Here, Murphy describes inhabiting the man behind the atom bomb and why he always delights in working with Nolan.
Deadline: Obviously, there are 20 years of trust between you and Christopher Nolan — this is your sixth film together. When he asked you to play this huge lead role, did he reveal exactly why he thought of you for it?

Four years before she co-founded the beloved New Wave group the Go-Go’s, guitarist Jane Wiedlin was about 15 years old living with her parents in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley. It was around 1974, and she was enamored with glam-rock titans like David Bowie and Marc Bolan. Looking to get as close to the music as possible, she went to the hottest club in L.A.: Rodney Bingenheimer’s English Disco.

The Beatles‘ “Hey Jude” is arguably the Fab Four’s signature song and Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” is undeniably Queen’s signature song. While the two hits sound so different from each other, they have a major similarity. The tunes also have something in common with David Bowie’s “Life on Mars?”
The Beatles’ ‘Hey Jude’ and Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ feature the same piano
According to Rolling Stone, Paul McCartney played the Bechstein piano at London’s Trident Studios on “Hey Jude.” That piano has had quite a history! It was also used on Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” Bowie’s “Life on Mars?,” and Elton John’s “Levon.”
The two bands used that piano in wildly different ways. In “Hey Jude,” it sounds warm and inviting, like the tune as a whole. In contrast, the piano riffs in “Bohemian Rhapsody” sound nervous, desperate, and sad. They fit with the song’s theme of murder.

Hey, "Big Brother" fans. Tonight, November 5, 2023, another new, special, Live eviction episode of Big Brother's current season 25 did indeed hit the air, and another houseguest was sent packing for the jury house at the end of it. Tonight's new, Live eviction episode kicked off with footage of what happened in the house after Bowie won the latest Hoh (Head Of Household) competition. Bowie told the Diary room aka private cams, "I'm in a final two with Jag. So, I don't want to put him on the block with Felicia." Jag told the private cams, "I've gotten really close with Bowie over the last couple of weeks. I'm hoping that will keep me off the block." Felicia told the private cams, "I know Bowie is putting me up with someone, but all that matters is the veto."...

‘Big Brother 25’ spoilers: The Mafia scares up more half-witted plans for Operation Pressure Cracker
There was nothing scary happening in the “Big Brother 25” house on Halloween. Except for how frighteningly bad Jag, Bowie and Matt are at jury management.
Tuesday kicked off sweetly with Felicia telling Cirie that she’s the best thing that has happened to her in the house. They cleared the air, both apologizing for having thrown each other under the bus throughout the game, and said they’re friends for life and hugged it out. These two been highly entertaining — they’ve bantered, argued, kayaked, were totally themselves and know at the end of the day it’s just a game.

Bangkok-based film fund Purin Pictures will disburse $140,000 to three Philippines and one Indonesian film as part of its fall grants.
The Purin committee has chosen three fiction and one documentary projects for production support and one documentary project for post-production support.
“The Remotes” is John Torres’ first fiction film after two decades of making documentaries. “Filipinana” by Rafael Manuel is expanded from a short film and was recently awarded at the Asian Project Market in Busan. “Jaguar” by Dean Colin Marcial is an urban thriller that straddles the gap between independent and mainstream genre cinema. Rounding out the selection are two documentaries, “Bariles” by Sheryl Rose Andes and “Planet of Love” by Ika Wulandari, that examine marginalized livelihoods in the Philippines and Indonesia respectively.

And then there were five. After the double evictions of Blue Kim and America Lopez, the remaining “Big Brother 25” houseguests competed in the Final 5 Head of Household competition to see who would win power for the week. Outgoing Hoh Bowie Jane was not eligible to compete, but the others all duked it out in the backyard, with the ultimate winner going on to nominate two houseguests for eviction. So how did it all play out on Sunday night?

Hey, "Big Brother" fans. We're back in your faces, right now, to give you guys some more very important updates from inside the Big Brother season 25 house. Last night, October 26, 2023, the latest Hoh (Head of House Hold) competition was played. Then, the eviction nomination ceremony took place earlier today, October 27,2023, and we have the results of those events for you in this article. As we previously reported, Blue and America were voted off and sent packing to the jury house in last night's Live, double eviction episode. Then, the latest Hoh competition was played and finished at around 10:36 pm pacific standard time, and it was Matt who emerged as the winner. So, it looks like Matt and Jag will indeed just steamroll their way to the end since no one else in this group besides Bowie seems to be able to win anything. Anyways, today's eviction nomination ceremony took...

Unfortunately, the American Revolution on “Big Brother 25” did not start on Thursday night. America Lopez got a reprieve this week as the pawn against Blue, but she knew it was do-or-die for her in the next Hoh and was determined to split up Jag and Matt. And that next Hoh came right away with the double eviction. But Bowie Jane, Matt and Jag’s third wheel, won and put her up alongside Felicia, and then Matt won the Veto, ensuring America’s eviction and that she’ll be reunited with Cory in the jury house. The superfan spent the commercial break begging Bowie not to put her up to no avail.
“I’m looking at Bowie and I’m telling her, ‘Bowie, do not put me up. I am going to go home. They told me I am going to go home. I heard that I’m next on their list to go home.

Well, Jag did not win Hoh for the third week in a row on “Big Brother 25.” Matt won, but that’s basically the same.
As the credits rolled on Thursday’s episode, Matt told Cirie he’ll never put her up if he wins. He later told Jag and Bowie they’re safe, which anyone could’ve guessed. Maybe the man forgot how many people are left, but he doesn’t have a lotta options here, so Cirie will be an initial nom alongside Felicia, the only person he never promised safety. Matt said he’ll reassure Cirie she’s just a pawn and she needs to trust him. However, Jag and Bowie are considering booting Cirie instead of Felicia.
See ‘Big Brother 25’ spoilers: Cirie is so over Felicia, whose target moves up a few spots
Cirie and Felicia figure they’re probably going up and discussed how they could stay in the game.

For the second time this season, two houseguests were about to be evicted on “Big Brother 25.” However, unlike the last double eviction, there would be no zombie comeback twist to save one of their games. The first person booted would be either America Lopez or Blue Kim, as they were both nominated by Head of Household Jag Bains. Following that ouster, we would see an entire week’s worth of gameplay, with an Hoh comp, a nominations ceremony, a Veto challenge, a Veto meeting and a second eviction.

Felicia has put in so much work this week to sabotage Cirie on “Big Brother 25,” but Cirie just needs a couple hours to completely turn things around.
After learning Tuesday night that Felicia’s been running her mouth, Cirie’s completely done with Felicia. And it’s hilarious. Her quick chats with Matt and Jag got her back in good standing, and that continued into Wednesday, with Bowie aware that Felicia’s been trying to point the target on Cirie’s back. It’s remarkable how comfortable Cirie makes everyone feel because she never has to overplay her hand or hold multiple convos like many houseguests do to make her case. She can just do a quickie one-on-one and the person is almost immediately on board with her/sees the light. Now everyone’s fed up with Felicia and she’s risen up as a top target in the double for Matt,...

Felicia has spent the past few days driving the bus over Cirie on “Big Brother 25.” Well, Cirie finally returned the favor on Tuesday.
The day started with Felicia literally waking Jag up because she couldn’t wait to tell him some hot goss. She said that she has learned from Cirie that Matt has talked to her about the best time to take Jag out, whether in the double eviction or final four. It is true that Matt told Cirie he’d take a shot at Jag at final four on Monday, which Cirie later told Felicia. A groggy Jag was shocked and Felicia continued her innocent “Hey, I’m just telling you what I heard” thing. She said that Cirie wants a split vote to force Jag to break the tie to evict Blue, which he was not against. Then basically the entire day was everyone discussing the benefits...

As expected, Jag did not use the Veto on Monday on “Big Brother 25” and both Blue and America are cool with it. That’s because both believe they’re staying.
Yes, Blue is still completely oblivious she’s the actual target this week. Jag has not given her a heads-up yet, so she’s proceeding like she’s a pawn. She did some light campaigning, but nothing has indicated she even suspects the vote could flip on her this week. Truly wild for someone who’s been given multiple warnings that Jag and Matt are after her and was already on the block last week. At this point, she could be in the jury house and still be in denial that Jag and Matt wanted her out.

Stop if you’ve heard this before: Jag won the Veto on “Big Brother 25.”
Yes, he’s won his fifth competition in a row, which obviously has only been possible because he was allowed to play in this week’s Hoh. So once again, he has all the power this week, but unlike last week, he’s not going to nominate half the house nor will his target shift (as of now). Blue is still his target, and everyone but Blue and Felicia knew that from the start.
Felicia went to work this weekend trying to throw Cirie under the bus. Jag revealed to Matt that Felicia told him before the Veto that Cirie had told Blue that Jag was targeting her, so Cirie “sold us out,” and that Felicia said maybe he ought to “reconsider” his target. This is not true, but Cirie did tell Felicia that she thinks Jag may target Blue.

Following the unanimous eviction of Cory Wurtenberger from the “Big Brother 25” house, only seven people remained in the game. All of them were eligible to compete in the Head of Household competition, including outgoing “secret” Hoh Jag Bains, who notably got blood on his hands during his reign for betraying Cory and America Lopez. So who won Hoh on October 22, and which two people did they nominate for eviction?

After flipping the vote on Izzy and evicting Jared in the double eviction on “Big Brother 25,” Cory Wurtenberger became a top target in the house. He came close to hitting the block the past two weeks and appeared to be safe this week with Jag, who almost couldn’t wait to tell him he was the invisible Hoh. But things quickly unraveled after America told Blue that Jag and Matt were gunning for her, and Blue spilled that to Jag before winning the second Veto. Jag, who won the first Veto, decided to blindside America and Cory, ensuring that the showmance is severed. Cory couldn’t use his debate skills to talk his way out of this one and was evicted 5-0 Thursday to become the second juror.

You will be shocked to learn that if you let a comp beast play in Hoh two weeks in a row on “Big Brother 25,” chances are they’re gonna win it.
Yup, Jag won Hoh again, so he’s going to be in power for two straight weeks. If he survives the double eviction, he can win Hoh for a third straight week. The fact that he was allowed to compete in Hoh after telling everyone he was the invisible Hoh is so unserious. The Hoh eligibility ought to have been conditional on him not revealing he was the invisible Hoh. Not to mention, Claire was forced to throw the next Hoh comp after anonymously overthrowing noms on Season 23.

For the second week in a row, there is no chance of a vote-flip on “Big Brother 25.” Cory is going out the door on Thursday, but he’s taking a page out of Cameron‘s book and causing some chaos — and the results have been highly entertaining.
Cory spent Wednesday campaigning but really stirring the pot and giving us some last-minute drama. Inspired by “Big Brother Canada’s” Kevin Jacobs, he donned his pink suit and called himself attorney at law to present his case (Kevin wholeheartedly approved). He claimed he had some votes he didn’t have and exposed various endgame planes. During a cam-talk later, he told feedsters that he knows he’s cooked and said he had a good time and is proud of himself for making it this far as an introvert. He clocked his strengths and weaknesses, one of the latter being that he can’t put people at ease.

Zoe continued, explaining, “We’re very hard on our boys the same way we’re hard on women. And boys are encouraged to be strong and to suppress their emotions. And then once you learn to do that so much for so long, you become completely excommunicated from your feelings.”

America was in a slightly better mood on Tuesday in the “Big Brother 25” house to chat with some people — but still not Jag.
Between mourning the demise of Americory in the house in Cory‘s arms, she hashed things out with Blue, or at least tried. Blue told her it was all game and not personal and hopes they can get drunk in New York. America again warned her about Matt and Jag, saying that they will bring Cirie and Felicia to final three over her. Blue said “totally” but she’s proud of playing her game and “whether that includes them or not, that’s my business and not yours.” Um, Ok. Girl is still in delusional that Matt and Jag ever had her back despite multiple people telling her that they do not. Heading into the Comic-Week’s Power of Veto competition, the Top 8 players learned there would be two Veto medallions up for grabs. The two nominees, Felicia Cannon and Blue Kim, vowed to play their hardest to try to win safety, while the Invisible Head of Household, Jag Bains, wanted the noms to stay the same so that Blue could be evicted. But anything could happen in the “Big Brother 25” house, especially with two Veto winners yet to be crowned.

Well, he did it. Blue and Jag used their Vetoes on herself and Felicia, respectively, in the “Big Brother 25” house on Monday, and Jag “invisibly” put up Cory and America.
The immediate fallout was off the feeds, of course, but it would not be a stretch to say they were pissed — especially America. When the feeds returned, she was inconsolable in bed, but Cirie, working for those jury votes, comforted America and said she was told of the plan the night before but didn’t believe it, and that she’s here to talk whenever America’s ready. Watching Cirie execute her social game is like watching Michelangelo paint the Sistine Chapel.
Cirie: America, I know it's hard right now, but I'm really sorry. Let me give you a hug. You always comfort me when I need it.
America: Did you know?
Cirie: I found out late last night, but...

“Big Brother 25’s” invisible Hoh twist would’ve been cool if any of these people could keep a secret and the winner actually did something with it.
Jag won Hoh, which was Bb Comics, with a time of 8:30. Not really fair to make it such a physical comp when the whole point of the week is to build paranoia with the invisibility twist. Jag is a terrible liar because Cirie has clocked that he won based on his behavior and told Felicia (though she would’ve clocked him even if he were a good liar). He has already told Matt and is thinking about telling Bowie, Cory and America too to build trust. Five bucks says within an hour of when they all wake up that the entire house will know. This twist would’ve been better, at least with this crew, if the Hoh were forced to keep their win a secret,...

Cameron Hardin became the ninth houseguest to exit the “Big Brother 25” house (and first to join the jury) when he was evicted by a vote of 6-0 on Thursday night. The 34-year old stay-at-home father from Eastman, Georgia was ousted on Day 72 over Cirie Fields. Head of Household Bowie Jane was targeting Cirie, but her allies Jag Bains and Matt Klotz wanted the comp beast out. When Jag won the Power of Veto, he used it to his advantage and pulled Felicia Cannon off the block, forcing Bowie to throw up a replacement, and she chose Cameron.

Heading into this week’s live eviction episode of “Big Brother 25,” Head of Household Bowie Jane was hoping nominations would remain the same and either Cirie Fields (Bowie’s true target) or Felicia Cannon would be sent packing. Unfortunately for Bowie, her ally Jag Bains won the Power of Veto and has other plans. He plans to pull Felicia or Cirie off the block in hopes Bowie will backdoor comp beast Cameron Hardin. Meanwhile, Cameron is putting the pressure on Bowie to backdoor another threat in the game, Cory Wurtenberger. Wednesday was the most humdrum day in the “Big Brother 25” house since, well, the last time Cameron was evicted.
Having accepted his fate, Cam called it quits on his campaigning on Wednesday. Instead, he apologized to America for walking out on their convo on Tuesday and told her he knows he’s going and will stop campaigning. He jokingly asked that they not send Felicia to the jury house next.
See ‘Big Brother 25’ spoilers: There’s no vote-flip talk, but there is relentless campaigning
With Cam’s second eviction locked in and no chance of a flip, plotting for next week continued. It’s basically about which of the duos will be broken up first: Matt and Jag or Cory and America. Cory is on a lotta people’s hit list, but no one wants blood on their hands themselves, so Blue is in the line of fire as well.

With Cameron on the block and about to go out the door again, it’s shaping up to be a chill week in the “Big Brother 25” house.
Well, “chill” as in there’s a slim chance of a vote-flip since everyone wants Cam out. He’s certainly not helping matters by persisntently interrogating everyone in that condescending way that he does. He spent all Tuesday doing just that trying to save his game and cause some more chaos. And while he has been somewhat successful in spreading paranoia (exposing Matt and Jag), everyone’s just kind of fed up him. America was so curt with him that he walked out, calling her incorrigible. Later, he held Bowie hostage to question her over the backdoor. She stood firm and told him that she’d heard things about him from others, didn’t like that he said he would take her to...

CBS’s Big Brother 25 took an unlikely turn in week 10. Bowie Jane won the Head of Household competition, putting her in a position of power she hasn’t had yet. She initially put Felicia Cannon and Cirie Fields up for nomination — but after the Power of Veto in week 10, she performed a gutsy move and nominated Cameron Hardin to the block. Here’s why Cameron’s likely headed home this week, according to Big Brother Season 25 spoilers.

Cirie Fields claims she will ‘never, ever, ever’ return for a ‘Big Brother’ All-Stars season [Watch]
Earlier this week in the “Big Brother 25” house, reality TV legend Cirie Fields — who, we’ll remind you, has played “Survivor” a whopping four times — claimed she’s forever done with “Bb” after her first season wraps up in November. “I think about the people who come back two or three times,” said her housemate Felicia Cannon, referring to former “Big Brother” contestants who return for various All-Stars seasons. Cirie replied matter-of-factly that she’ll “never” return to the house. And in case that wasn’t strong enough, she then added, “I’m never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever … And it’s on tape.”

It happened. Jag took down Felicia at Monday’s Veto meeting on “Big Brother 25” and Bowie put up Cameron in her place. And he’ll be evicted (again) on Thursday.
Cameron expected the backdoor after America basically spilled the beans on Sunday and spent Monday morning interrogating Matt when he knew about it. Matt, Bible in hand, claimed he didn’t know about it until Sunday, but Cam knew it was B.S. He said it felt personal because he was ride or die with the Fugitives, so he’s going to look like an idiot talking about them on national TV. Cam took his backdoor like a champ and acted unbothered. He knows he’s doomed and his last act in the house is to throw Matt and Jag under the bus and expose their game. He spilled to Cirie that that they were part of Jared‘s eviction...

Hey, "Big Brother" fans. We are back on here to deliver another new, very important update from inside the Big Brother season 25 house. Earlier today, the Pov (Power Of Veto) ceremony took place, and we have the results for it in this article. Before we tell you what happened during the Pov ceremony, we're going to do a really quick recap of this week for anyone who isn't up to speed on everything. This past Thursday night, October 5, 2023, Bowie took over the Hoh (Head Of Household) duties after winning the latest Hoh competition. Then, on Friday,October 6, 2023, Bowie nominated Cirie and Felicia for eviction during her nomination ceremony. On Saturday, October 7, 2023, Jag pulled off the latest Pov competition win. That all leads us to today's October 9, 2023 Pov ceremony. During today's Pov ceremony, Jag did indeed decide to use the veto to save Felicia from the eviction chopping block. Then, Hoh...

Another backdoor plan is in motion on “Big Brother 25” and this one is shaping up perfectly for the orchestrators.
Just like they did last week to dissuade Cameron from targeting Cory and flip the vote to Mecole, Matt and Jag put in the work to turn Bowie against Cameron and backdoor him. Then they got the perfect Veto draw on Saturday with Cam not being picked, so a true backdoor is in play. Veto was Otev, which Jag won for this third Veto victory of the season. His wins have been behind Hisam‘s backdoor and now two Cam backdoors. Bowie is fully committed to the cause, promising that “the job will be done, no matter what anyone says.” The only non-Cam person who was initially in the dark about it is Blue. There was talk of Jag taking down Cirie, but she asked that it be used on Felicia...

Following the eviction of Mecole Hayes on “Big Brother 25,” only the Top 9 houseguests remained in the game. Seven of those would soon become members of the jury, while the other two would be the Final 2 of the summer. Bowie Jane surprised everyone when she won Head of Household during Thursday’s live show, but which two players will she nominate for eviction in the Sunday episode?

True, the title of writer-director Brett Morgen’s documentary about David Bowie, Moonage Daydream, refers to the song of the same name from Bowie’s classic 1972 album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. But it could also be said to describe the feeling that Morgen inspires with the impressionistic way that he renders the life and art of the glam-rock icon on screen. Even more so than in Cobain: Montage of Heck, his 2015 film about Kurt Cobain, Morgen is less interested in factual biography than in eliciting a sense of the man as an artist and personality.
The means by which Morgen accomplishes his goal are startling to behold. For the film, the David Bowie Estate gave Morgen access to a wealth of rare recordings, films, drawings, and journals, and he hasn’t shied away from showing off that access on screen. Moonage Daydream...

There’s still a whole lotta nothing going on in the “Big Brother 25” house during this dead week. Cameron and Jared finished the third round of their zombie comp on Friday night and now we all wait until Thursday. Couldn’t have spread out the comp over a few days?
Cameron won the third round, so he has the right to choose to compete in Thursday’s comp or let Jared do it. He is obviously choosing to compete and control his own fate, even if that leads to a Kaitlyn puzzle disaster. But Cam is a comp beast, so he’ll probably be fine. If he completes it, he returns to the game. If he fails, Jared returns. Jared is the king of default wins, so do not underestimate him “winning” from doing nothing. Knowing he was likely cooked, Jared was bummed out after the comp and cried in bed,...
