As He Took his sunrise walk through a quiet Las Vegas suburb of tan stucco houses and desert landscaping in late September, Duane Davis resembled nobody’s idea of a gangster legend. A bald man on the soft side of 60 in a white Polo Sport T-shirt and loose-fitting pants, he could have been just another middle-aged neighbor plodding uphill against the ravages of time.
Whatever reverie Davis enjoyed ended as officers from Las Vegas Metro’s Criminal Apprehension Team swiftly approached in tactical gear out of unmarked vehicles. “Hey, Keffe,...

Facing a murder charge in the Sept. 7, 1996 shooting death of Tupac Shakur, former California street gang boss Duane Davis received a little good news during his brief arraignment Thursday in a Las Vegas Courtroom.
The State won’t seek the death penalty for what authorities are calling Davis’ role as “shot-caller” in a drive-by shooting a block off the Las Vegas Strip that mortally wounded the 25-year-old Shakur and also wounded Death Row Records godfather Marion “Suge” Knight.

Jada Pinkett Smith has opened up about the arrest of Duane “Keffe D” Davis in connection to the 1996 shooting death of Tupac Shakur. The actress and Shakur were close friends who met one another when they were both students at Baltimore School of the Arts. Smith updated her Instagram Story with a simple message that read, “Now I hope we can get some answers and have some closure. R.I.P. Pac.”
Shakur was shot four times on Sept. 7, 1996, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The rapper and poet had recently left a boxing match in the city and was sitting in the car when he was hit. He ultimately died from his injuries on Sept. 13 of that year.
Davis has never denied being inside the white Cadillac that pulled up next to Shakur, but has insisted he was seated in the front passenger seat and that the shots were fired from the car’s back seat.

Duane “Keffe D” Davis‘ own words to the press — and in his memoir — “reinvigorated” the Tupac Shakur’s murder case five years ago, Las Vegas police said in a press conference Friday. Davis was charged with one count of murder with use of a deadly weapon, with a gang enhancement.
“Davis was the shot-caller for this group of individuals that committed this crime, and he orchestrated the plan that was carried out,” Sheriff Kevin McMahill said Friday, adding that it took “decades” to get to the bottom of the 27-year-old case.

Over 27 years after the shooting death of Tupac Shakur, Las Vegas police have finally made an arrest in connection to the rapper’s long-unsolved murder: Duane “Keffe D” Davis, the self-proclaimed last living person involved in the September 1996 drive-by shooting that ultimately claimed Shakur’s life at the age of 25, was charged Friday with murder with use of a deadly weapon.
Davis, in essence, signed his own arrest warrant in recent years following the release of his memoir Compton Street Legend, which detailed the Crips member’s alleged involvement in Shakur’s murder.
